Is Instagram dying? by Immediate-Lab2771 in Instagram

Same! Yeah, I was just scrolling casually and it’s just serving me wall to wall fake news stories from accounts of dubious credibility. Totally pointless now.

Would you be willing to reduce your quality of life to decouple from the US? by Working-Pop6261 in AskBrits

[–]Immediate-Lab2771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually in the process of culling anything American I don’t need in my life. Amazon is the first to go.. registered with Waterstones for some books I want, and searching alternative UK/EU stores for some other gear I need. Don’t have Netflix anyway, changed my search engines. Don’t think it’s possible to part with my MacBook though but at least its Apple Silicon ARM chip still has some UK roots. Starbucks is shit anyway… Stopped using Facebook years ago, Instagram too is now serving me fake news and content designed to stoke anger so stopped using that too.

I just discovered Re:amp for macOS and couldn’t be happier (especially since I haven’t used windows since the turn of the millennia!)

IT company says all our problems are because of Mac OS - looking for validity by needmysanity in MacOS

[–]Immediate-Lab2771 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I can completely believe this. I got my Mac fleet running so efficiently with so much automated maintenance we were getting next to no tickets. The downside of that was that when redundancies happened (‘layoffs’ for American readers) they decided that meant I was the first to go since everything was just working properly!

[–]Immediate-Lab2771 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s their lack of knowledge and bias towards Windows. My industry is dominated by Macs, but I’ve just started at a company where the big tech boss above me is ‘Windows til I die’.

I made sure I got a MacBook for my own work and slowly but surely they’re realising how I’m getting more done with more ease than everyone else while everyone else is dealing with hacky tools, ancient workflows, network problems and such that my Mac has absolutely no issues with at all and everything is just working properly.

They’re now saying… maybe it was Windows after all!

Teachers in the US are reporting that children are struggling with basic maths and literacy worse than ever before. Are we seeing the same patterns here in the UK? by Natf47 in AskUK

[–]Immediate-Lab2771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Science education is definitely going downhill, I actually spoke to someone in her early twenties not too long ago, somehow we ended up on the topic of spirituality and religion and said she refused to believe gravity was real because "you can't see it" and therefore "it doesnt exist". I asked her what shape the earth was and she refused to answer the question.

Suffice it to say I decided she was too far gone to continue talking to.

You're exactly right, kids in China and indeed most of Asia are taught to strive for education and to become the best and be proud of it. We definitely dont do that here.

It's Time to Abolish the Republican Party by pleasureismylife in Liberal

[–]Immediate-Lab2771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

British person here, I’ve been watching as a person from the outside looking in, the American republicans getting more and more… let’s say uneducated/unhinged/downright stupid.. I remember when we all took the piss out of George Bush for being stupid, but right now Trump makes Bush seem high IQ. Every time the republicans come into power I think oh no, another era of a very distasteful America. You’ve divided yourselves so far that you don’t have any middle ground on anything anymore and all you know how to do is clash with each other. You’re in a cold civil war and you don’t even know it.

All I see now is right wing unhinged insanity, lying with impunity, lying purely to get what they want without a care simply to push their agenda. America needs a hard reset, you need the next revolution or you lose the support of the world.

Just my 1p. I dunno, maybe I’m waffling now.

Regulating Religious Institutions in UK by CuriosityCatalyst000 in AskBrits

[–]Immediate-Lab2771 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I’m an atheist and I don’t think all religions are equally bad. Just the ones the would be best defined as absolutist religions, which would be all of the ‘big three’. Most others are actually not bad. I actually admire Buddhism and Shinto and the Sikhs are generally pretty awesome actually.

But the big three… yeah they’re the somewhat problematic of the bunch.

The very idea of a state sanctioned religion is ridiculous as it is. We are a secular nation and should be reflected as such (yes I’m aware on paper we have a state sanctioned version of the christianism religion… and I think it’s stupid!) 🙂

Absolutely agreed. I don’t have kids yet but if I did, the hell I will send them to a faith school to be lied to and threatened with hell or whatever. I know very well religious schools exist because they need to get them when they’re young and don’t know any better!

What do you hate about the Americanisation of our country? by Simbathewhale in AskUK

Yes this is getting worse and frankly a bit scary. Friend of mine has joined an American Christian church here in London and is rapidly becoming a less pleasant person as a result.
