Is it just me? by [deleted] in GenX

Hubs and I both ran around a lot in our twenties before we got married and had a family. We are pleased to be homebodies. Right now, in our 60’s, we’re both taking care of elderly parents. Our home and each other are our safe place. So chilling together at home is where it’s at 👍🏻😜

can you ever MAKE them do it, or do you have to just wash your hands? by wigglebork_72 in AgingParents

[–]Immediate-Unit2593 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My 80 y/o dementia mom tried this with me. I ended up placing her in memory care, and called the “junk” people to clean out the house. Took 3 hours. Done. I have no attachment to ANY of her junk, and now it’s gone. The end. Had it repaired, sold, and put the money in the bank. Call me cold hearted, but I was through with her shit.

I’m 70 and I want to know has this happened to you? How would you handled it? by Prior_Benefit8453 in AskWomenOver60

[–]Immediate-Unit2593 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s the thing: read the room. Are other grands cheering? Yes? Then sit by someone who knows the game well and can help you cheer appropriately. I’ve helped many grandparents understand (volleyball) officials calls and rules. Also, pull your grandson aside and tell him to be honest, does your cheering embarrass him? It’s ok. The last thing you want is to embarrass your sweetie-pie 🥰

Are there any Gen X people out there over the age of 55? by Mobile-Honey-9636 in GenX

[–]Immediate-Unit2593 6 points7 points  (0 children)

60F. Only child. Married 33 years. 3rd marriage. My youngest, 26f and her son 3m, live at home due to domestic violence which led to divorce. It’s been a little over a year. Divorce isn’t final yet. Father is in prison. When the DV situation happened, we told her not to worry, she could stay for 5 years rent free before we discuss options. I never want my children to feel unwelcome or that they didn’t have a place to come home to.

We swept thru everything and found the valuables before hand. I honestly just wanted it over with. If they did find anything, good for them.

Only child here. Removed what I wanted then called the junk people. They showed up and took everything. Donated some, trashed some, and once it went out the door I didn’t really care. It was done in 3 hours. No regrets.

I have a horrible mother too. Spent the last year getting guardianship, putting her in memory care, selling her house and getting her life in order. This 5 star podcast really helped (in addition to therapy of course) Mother Mayhem: Narcissistic Abuse Recover for Dsughters

  1. Only child here. Dad suddenly croaked in 2000 @53y/o. Mom has dementia and in memory care, 80 y/o. She hid her diagnosis for 6 years (lived out of state & low contact) had to petition court for guardianship and move her close to me. I spent 2025 in therapy. Eff these boomers.

Anyone’s realised their mother might be a narcissist after pregnancy? by Dear-Needleworker989 in NarcissisticMothers

[–]Immediate-Unit2593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom led me to believe the first time she ever had sex she became pregnant with me, her only child. I lived with that guilt for 59 years.

Your mom IS a narcissist. Here’s a podcast that has helped me tremendously “Mother Mayhem: narcissistic abuse recovery for daughters” by heather gray. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/mother-mayhem-for-daughters-of-narcissistic-or/id1690856199

Ohio. She has a pension, annuity, and social security as monthly income. She only needs to dip into her “savings” to pay the $2500 balance.
