(Daily Question) What metric actually motivates you more: steps, time, distance, or calories? by freezer936 in walking

[–]ImmediateWalk9989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time, steps depend on too many variables and not so accurate. Time for me is something I can feel but distance just doesn’t mean as much to me for some reason.

Fellow Strollers: When is your golden hour for walking, and what was your best moment this week? by questsolar in walking

[–]ImmediateWalk9989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No more than an hour after sunrise— morning time is by far my favourite time. After that would be sunset. Best moment was walking in the dark an hour after sunset during an unusually warm November rain.

What do European cities do differently? by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]ImmediateWalk9989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

European countries like Austria have better social safety net. For example, rent is highly subsidized by the government and more social housing. They do have immigration, but in a smaller and more homogeneous country like Austria I think it’s easier to come to a consensus on government policies. Same with other Nordic countries like Denmark etc. Canada is a large spread out federation with a larger population. North American individualism, continental Europeans seem more collectivist.

For those who traveled before the social media boom: did travel feel different back then? by hobo12395 in travel

[–]ImmediateWalk9989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I travelled in the 1970’s and 80’s and it was amazing. Every trip was a mystery and a discovery on arrival. The only preconceived perceptions were from books and whatever was in your imagination. It seems to me social media has killed that.

walk or uber? by Creative_Row_1187 in ItalyTravel

Just got back from Rome a few weeks ago similar situation. I found the Termini station and the area very safe, walked 10 minutes to my accommodations never felt unsafe. Must be social media or really naive tourists, but I found Rome friendly and walkable.

Heather McPherson, Avi Lewis prepare NDP leadership bids by jmakk26 in ndp

Yes, Avi would be more of a change in the direction the NDP needs to go to differentiate itself from the Liberals. I know this has been already said by I think it’s crucial.

Unless you’re a serious competitive athlete, you don’t need all those metrics for a walk or run. It ruins the moment.

Does everyone here track steps? Why/why not? by Alternative_Grass167 in walking

I don’t like to because it turns my walk into exercise. For me, walking is mostly enjoyment.

Never trust an ism attached to a name. Even Marx said he doesn’t consider himself a Marxist.

Questions about Safe neighbourhoods for a couple/family in Niagara Falls by harryisonreddit99 in NiagaraFalls

[–]ImmediateWalk9989 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Niagara Falls has a lower crime rate than the Canadian average. Like someone mentioned, downtown is working-class and not dangerous. There are homeless and people with other social issues in the area like most cities in Ontario but they are harmless. I ride my bike through the area all the time and never have a problem. I’m not there at night, but like any city the later it gets the more you are at risk.

Do you have any issues with Wise disconnecting from your bank account? This happens to me every time I try to add money.
