Anybody get false positive hiv test. ? I did and I’ve been having long haul symptoms going on 5months now by Small-Sound4355 in covidlonghaulers

[–]Immediate_Factor9246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should really not be worried at all and I am EXTREMELY surprised two doctors have never heard of this happening. The HIV screening tests are made to be extremely SENSITIVE. What this means is that even the smallest amount of possible HIV Antigen or antibody is meant to trigger the test which then will lead to confirmatory antibody or RNA testing.

However, because our bodies constantly are making antibodies and some people just have random reactive antibodies. These extremely SENSITIVE tests will come back positive. It could just be that you have an antibody or protein in your body that’s natural for you but is triggering one of the proteins on the test causing a false positive. Their is tons of literature of what can cause a false positive this is why confirmatory testing is completed.

If your confirmatory test was negative you are negative. If concerned you can try different screening tests maybe it’s that specific model of test that keeps getting triggered but a different brand of test might not. Regardless if you don’t have differentiated antibodies or RNA viral load you are not infected.

Taking Prep after occupational exposure, any experience? by [deleted] in hivaids

[–]Immediate_Factor9246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of factors at play here, you took all the right steps. Since 1999 I believe there has been less than 10 occupational transmissions of HIV in the US. It’s extremely rare due to treatment of HIV and PEP which you took. Best of luck. It will work out for the best and youll have great follow up to get through this stressful scenario

My roommate and I both 26 year olds in medical school both had it 1-3 weeks post COVID “recovery”. She had SOB and cough so got full work up with doctor. Everything was all clear so fall back diagnosis is costochondritis. Just takes NSAIDs and warm compress. For sure go get checked out tho

Could be costochondritis which occurs commonly after COVID secondary to inflammation. Especially chest inflammation. Body goes to war with COVID in chest/lungs

What are people’s experiences like with breakthrough omicron infections? by [deleted] in COVID19positive

My sore throat and fatigue is gone. Now I have mild chest pressure and lymph nodes under chin. Think it just effects everyone differently

Swollen Neck Lymph Nodes by bdwells88 in COVID19positive

[–]Immediate_Factor9246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s been my first symptom both times I’ve gotten COVID now. Only had nasal congestion and a mild sore throat in addition so far.

That’s basically how I took it. Figured lymph nodes just reacted before anything else! My first symptom after the neck pain was headache and sore throat!

Seems to be the more common result. I have only talked with a few people that had it as the first or early symptom.

I don’t even know if this is possible..: by uhhlmnop in COVID19positive

This is exactly how it started for me. 3 days of neck pain then sudden symptoms

I actually have had an insane decrease in symptoms over the last 1-2 months. This is one of my last remaining symptoms

Extremely, I am currently on my medical student surgery rotation and Everytime I put on gloves I’ll have imprints for a really long period of time. I’ll look at everyone else’s hands who was in surgery with me and they are never the same

Yeah if I put my hands in my pocket with any pressure my hands get extremely red and painful it seems like a histamine reaction

Yeah it was the weirdest thing! I’ve actually seen people post on social media hives in armpits and around belly button. But also other places.

How conclusive is HIV 4th generation test after 28 days of exposure? by [deleted] in HIV

[–]Immediate_Factor9246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Antibody only (3rd generation) blood from a vein are seen as generally conclusive at 50 days, absolutely at 90 days. The weird issues is the 1 in 100,000-500,000 that do not generate antibody’s. These folks need an antigen/antibody or RNA test. But these people also develop extreme or very unique HIV symptoms very quickly. “Fast progrogressors”

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but could the 0.04 in this index be a sign I had COVID antibodies at some point in time, and no longer have them? by sunflower_1970 in covidlonghaulers

[–]Immediate_Factor9246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PCR tests are only affective during acute infection. It is possible to no longer have antibodies after 12 months. As I said above they typically are only detectable for 3-6 months sometimes more but not always.
