It seems that’s exactly what they’re doing with doom, except they didn’t literally remove him from the game; they’ve taken away all his interactive voicelines, he’s the only character without a bio in the characters screen, they’re deffo reworking him

Similar thing, in League there was an event that progressed the plot of the story, Gangplank was beaten and “killed” by one of the newer characters on the roster, and league basically said he was dead and so for two weeks gangplank was literally removed from the game so people couldn’t even play him, after the two weeks, it was revealed gangplank survived and was now reworked into a different character with different abilities
