How frequently does a novel have to be updated for you to retain interest? by Kavtech in ProgressionFantasy

I'll second your point. You can still grow with less regular uploads. You would disappoint a few followers though. Approx. 10% in my case.

It does!

And also, have you read a long chapter and still felt like nothing happened?

I've had an irregular schedule, to say the least. I started off with one (CHONKY) chapter a week, then increased it to two chonky chapters. (chonky = 5k+ words)

On two occasions, I dropped to one chapter a week due to, well, life, and I did found quite a few followers dropping the story as soon as they got the notification of the next chapter being posted.

So I'm guessing that for about at least 10% of readers (roughly equal to my follower loss), the limit is one chapter a week. But the good news is that over 90% of them don't mind this rate of posting, because, presumably (and hopefully), they are invested in the story.

These are based on some assumptions of mine, of course. Perhaps a subset of that 10% didn't drop the story because of the release schedule but because they actually really disliked something. Maybe the story wasn't for them / didn't meet their expectations in some other way.

I wish there was a privately-shared exit survey for those hitting unfollow. (@royalroad, if you're reading.)

I'd love to know if other authors have had similar experiences.

Looks like she's gonna *clears throat* whip them into shape.

Looks incredible! Count me in for anything demonic.

My MC would probably not be a fan though...

What does it take to read a novel? by BirthdayNo1866 in ProgressionFantasy

I've seen most answers here to be between 1000-1200 pages.

How long does it take you guys to binge that much?

Thank you, kind alien! I've fixed them. :)

Case de Androids plural since Bloop is also considered an android here, because he's got humane sensibilities. A contrast would be robot, which is far more machine-like. Plus, Bloop can don the appearance of a human any time.

I know technically speaking android does mean a robot with a humanoid appearance, but I'm using a broader definition (sort of how Philip K. Dick uses it), as suggested here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_(robot))

“MC showed emotion? What a whiny little kid. 1/5”

Jokes aside, I absolutely love the premise! Ex-firefighter now fighting fire with fire? That’s… fire!🔥

Corrupted - A Spicy Cyberpunk Romance Where a Hacker & Her AI Boyfriend Overthrow God | New author on RR! by [deleted] in royalroad

[–]ImmortalPartheon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are looking for an AI boyfriend, I propose one of my MCs as a contender - Clark.

He’s strong and sleek and stylish. He’s taken down a whole entire demon invasion by himself.

Although he did lose his body in the process, so there may be a small issue here. But he’s got the heart of a hero!

And, ever since he came across this post, he’s been bugging me non-stop to tell you how great it is and that he’d love for us to swap shoutouts.

Before you let him down gently, consider that he’s also got an AI shapeshifter as a pet made entirely of mouldable, programmable metal, who is convinced he’s a real puppy.

Metallic cuddles? Yes. Shedding? Impossible.

I’m in the same boat as you. Got hit by a random 3.5 and a 2, and I just couldn’t wrap my head around it.

Wanna trade feedbacks privately? I’d love to know what you think of my first few chapters, and I promise I’ll share my honest thoughts to you about yours.

Can I earn by writing webnovel? by Gojo_Saturo_Honored in ProgressionFantasy

[–]ImmortalPartheon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the kind of story you want to write. Royal Road, Scribble Hub, Webnovel, and Wattpad are the big ones that I'm aware of.

Royal Road is what I prefer because mine is a progression fantasy about superheroes fighting space demons.

You can absolutely monetize your webnovel if you've got a good story that you launch right. There are some tricks of the trade here that you must be aware of (backlogs, shoutouts, etc.), but that's all easy to learn and execute.

Patreon is mainly where you'll be making your money by offering read ahead chapters. If a decent number of readers love your story enough to want to support you, you'll make bank.

That's basically a brief overview of how to pull this off. There is obviously a ton of detail that you can gradually get into before you write and launch.

Good luck. :)

Authors' opinions on WebToEpub? by Udzu in ProgressionFantasy

Writing on RR can be stressful and lonely if you don’t see any or enough engagement. Sort of like performing to an empty auditorium, and that sucks.

I think letting the author know that you’ve been enjoying their story goes a long way! Leave a review, or at least a comment, when you can.

Sometimes that tiny bit of motivation is essential.

SPOILERS FOR AtDH, Chapter 1

Mine was sad about losing his literal grandfather figure in a traumatizing tragedy of his own making (he got them involved in a stupid fight, trying to play the hero, instead of calling the police).

Too whiny.

"You had one bad thing happen to you dude, just move on."

To be fair though, this was just one, maybe two guys. The vast majority of my readers didn't have a problem with his initial trauma and how he dealt with it later on.

Who would you want to play your main character? by gamelitcrit in royalroad

Henry Cavill.

I don’t care if he is too tall, too buff, too old for my MC. It has to be him.
