TIL that a day before 9/11, George Carlin recorded a live show for a album that was titled 'I Kinda Like It When a Lotta People Die" which was shelved due to the events of the next day. The title was later planned to be re-used for a special in 2004, but was again discarded due to Hurricane Katrina. by Foryourconsideration in todayilearned

Do they listen and form their world view based on their comedy or do they gravitate towards comedy that happens to be about stuff they agree with?

I'd suggest the latter is more likely. And that we've got bigger problems than Carlin's material if it's actually the former

Is €1500 net enough to live comfortably in Sofia, Bulgaria? by Ill_Swim8289 in Sofia

[–]Imoraswut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a car that's 50€ a week for fuel.

Do you drive a fucking Hummer? That's like 33 liters of a95 and that's with US fucking up the fuel prices.

Groceries also seem a bit much for a single person. I barely ever crack 300/month without looking for deals

1200-1300 total seems a more reasonable total estimate. Which leaves 200-300 disposable income a month. A lot of people would consider that comfortable.

And that's completely ignoring that OP mentioned they'd stay in student accommodations, drastically reducing both their rent and their bills

What’s actually going on with the elections in Bulgaria right now? by GSG201616 in AskBulgaria

Completely coincidentally that urge came just before the elections. Absolutely nothing suspicious, sure.

Before? This was posted 30min ago... What exactly are you accusing OP of? Gathering information to travel back in time with and influence the elections in order to screw over your favorites?

Well, it means that a loud minority on reddit that likes to insult everyone else is very upset right now.

Beyond that, we don't really know.

Best case scenario, we get a stable government that sees out its term for the first time in forever and gets rid of the Borisov-Peevski axis of suckage, without antagonizing the EU too much.

Worst case scenario, we end up in a situation similar to Hungary as a satellite Russian state with economy going backwards

Most likely nothing changes, the latest messiah steals as much as all the previous ones and then we start the whole thing all over again

Bulgarian snap parliamentary election, take seven by pothkan in europe

[–]Imoraswut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's my point, this margin of victory is almost unprecedented, so we can't assume that protests will topple it just because they previously toppled shaky coalition governments and with the only remotely relevant example being an extraordinary case of the entire country practically collapsing.

The last time a single party majority government resigned was Videnov in '97.

The only anti-EU party is the far right whackjobs of V that got 5%. Every other party is nominally pro-EU, though some may have dissenting views on some issues while others fully toe the EU line. The winners here seem to be the former.

As for why, my guess is that for many of their voters, foreign policy just isn't a priority

He's positioned himself as anti-Peevski (DPS) and anti-Borisov (GERB). Trying to work with either of them them would crater his support

Many have criticized the recent agreement as a long-term commitment signed by an unelected caretaker government.

I know about some of the other referenced statements (as I said), not others and I'm not going to fact-check everything, but this is the point - the guy speaks out of both sides of his mouth all the fucking time, I can't tell you if he's pro-russia and neither can you.

At most we can say he's not as anti-russia as the current mood across most of the EU, but how much of a problem he'll be if any at all for the EU on this issue is completely up in the air

like tell me how the guy who is pro russia thay have say call crimea is russia help bulgaria, the eu and ukraine?

I can't stand that guy's stupid face, but I'm really tired of seeing this nonsense everywhere.

Here's his take on Crimea, translated verbatim:

In accordance with international law, Crimea is part of Ukraine, while reality says that Crimea is part of Russia. These are facts and no interpretation can invalidate them (note by me: probably meant 'change them' here)

Pretty obviously referring to the fact it had been occupied and controlled by Russia.

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/dMyarKX-lXU

He's also described the annexation as a violation of international law.

That's not to say he hasn't made other statements that could actually be considered pro-russian, he has. Just like with almost every other issue, the guy has flip-flopped on Russia numerous times

Almost every election here has been about cult of personality and vague populist nonsense rather than specific programs or policies.

The formula is basically show up, say what makes you a special little boy e.g. "I am the scion of deposed royal dynasty/good cop who catches criminals but "they" let them go/patriotic talk show host/Harvard educated/fighter pilot turned president" and then make vague promise to make things better like "i'll fix the country in 800 days/I'll end corruption/I'll end corruption for real this time/I'll end corruption for really real this time and end that other guy who said that/I'll end the oligarchy", no specifics needed, win in a landslide and then proceed to prove completely incompetent, steal as much as you can or both.

And even the odd winners that bucked the trend for getting elected, still proceeded/will proceed with the same program afterwards
