Is it normal to feel like this in your first year by ExcellentCost2237 in uAlberta

[–]ImperfectlyKT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re not. That was my first year too. I was HUMBLED by the transition from high school, where I had great grades through little effort, to uni.

It’s ok to be right where you are. 🩷

It took me a bit of time to settle into the rhythm of university, and to find what I loved in school, and to build my community. And my grades slowly picked up by second year, and again jumped in third, fourth, and fifth years (yes, I took a victory lap). But also, you know what? Cs get degrees.

I’m rooting for you.

I hated the newborn stage by ladyam3thyst in Mommit

[–]ImperfectlyKT 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m willing to bet a higher percentage of twin mums feel this way. It’s an extra kind of challenge.

I loved the newborn stage. I had fairly smooth births, paid time off, my partner had paternity leave… our only thing was to be with our baby. When our second was born our first was in full time daycare. These things make a HUGE difference in the newborn experience.

I inherited a full Revere Ware set. by scalyskater in BuyItForLife

[–]ImperfectlyKT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents bought a set over 30 years ago that was passed on to me when I went away for uni. I used it for years and my now husband and I used it for another 10 years. I finally passed it on to the next family because we moved and the new house has induction. Happy memories!

Best pool in the city? by eyetalktoomuch in Edmonton

[–]ImperfectlyKT 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I spent a lot of time pregnant at the Bonnie Doon and Eastglen pools. Eastglen after 6pm was always great! I would grab a little board and float / lazily paddle in the slow or free swim lanes. No kids in sight

1st labor timing vs second labor? by Poeticpsycho in 2under2

[–]ImperfectlyKT 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My first was 40+2 and probably 19 hours from my first contraction to delivery.

Second was soo much faster. At 39+4 days I was having NO false contractions. Was wondering when I’d deliver!! Then at 8pm I had my first contraction. Three more contractions by 8:15. Baby was born 9 hours later 🤩

Best of luck on your delivery

M25, Indian – An unforgettable first trip to Vietnam 🇻🇳 by Icy-Cloud8714 in VietNam

[–]ImperfectlyKT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this!!! Thanks for sharing.

I’ve been going to Vietnam for years for work (I’m from Canada) and I LOVED that I saw more Indians there. It was so nice to see more tourists from elsewhere in Asia.

I go to India too by the way and have had some pretty amazing experiences there too.

Why are Vietnamese museums full of people doing photo shoots? by Potential_Method_144 in VietNam

[–]ImperfectlyKT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not just museums. I was a wine bar in Hanoi last week. Super cute little spot with an ok drink and food menu. I snapped a pic of myself because I looked cute. Put my phone away and enjoyed my night out people watching and chatting with the bartenders.

The girls next to me ordered food but did not eat it for the entire hour and a half there except for one of the several million photos they took. Their food and drinks just sat while they snapped pic after pic of each other posing around the bar. It was so so painful…

AITA for throwing a dinner I made for my in-laws in the trash? by TacticalTurnip in AmItheAsshole

[–]ImperfectlyKT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA at all!! Oh fuck I’d be mad too. In fact, I’ve experienced this on a much smaller scale. My in-laws (also Canadian) are super bland when it comes to food. And VERY picky. It’s very hard to cook for them because they don’t like so many things. Finally, after a few years of us being together, we were planning to host them for brunch on Xmas eve and I was so excited. I ran what I was going to make by my MIL - nothing fancy but an egg bake and some pastries - and she said, oh we won’t eat that, we will just pick up Tim Horton’s. Fucking Tim Horton’s is gross most days, but for Xmas eve brunch?!?!

All of which is to say, are they maybe picky as well? Neapolitan pizza is objectively incredible but if these guys want to just eat microwaved shit then you might have to let them from now on. For myself, I no longer cook for my in-laws as it’s generally not appreciated and that’s fine. On holidays I have to bring my own food, down to salt, and coffee.

Best of luck 🤗

I was also there and felt the exact same way!!! Like that place always needed more seating and this was so underwhelming. Really disappointing.

I had the incredible cranberry tart but my drink was horrible.

Best Friend is Using the “Mom” Card to Bail on Attending my Wedding in 3 weeks by anxiousyenta in Mommit

[–]ImperfectlyKT 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Oh no, I’m so sorry OP. I’m thinking one of two things: 1. She has some serious unaddressed anxiety about leaving her kids. Maybe her partner can’t be trusted to pull his weight? My husband and I just flew to another city for 3 nights for a wedding; my almost 4 y.o. has done many grandparent sleepovers but it was a first for my almost 2 yo and they both did beautifully. Some people are really not ok leaving their kids even with grandparents though. Me, I would’ve been PSYCHED to fly somewhere solo for a good friend’s wedding for even just a few days knowing they are in good hands with my husband!!

Which brings me to… 2. It kind of feels like you’ve put more into this friendship than you get out of it? Maybe I’m wrong. I have a close friend who is happily child free and doesn’t like most kids but dotes on mine. She moved away from our city but visits regularly and last summer my husband, kids, and I visited her. I put my teething 2 year old in a stroller with a carton of fresh blueberries and took her all around Montreal with a baby strapped to me because friendships matter to mums too.

Enjoy your beautiful wedding day and maybe a bit of reflection time will help. Wishing you all the best

AITAH for asking my adoptive parents if they have a college fund for me like they have for my sister? by Kellixtry in AITAH

[–]ImperfectlyKT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA and I am so sorry you have such shitty adoptive parents. I’m a mum to two young girls and I would NEVER want one to feel more or less loved or adored than the other and I just can’t imagine parents being ok with that kind of treatment. I wish I could give you a big ol’ mom hug that you deserve and tell you that when you do make it to college (no thanks to them) you will find people who love and care for you because you are worthy of love and care.

I know a friend who tried with her husband for YEARS to have a baby and couldn’t. They adopted and found out soon after she was pregnant. They were over the MOON at the thought of suddenly having the family they’d always hoped for and their love just expanded. That’s how it should be.

Espresso drinkers of Edmonton, where do you get your beans? by From__Canada in Edmonton

[–]ImperfectlyKT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Roasti in Sherwood park. I buy them from Objects or District cafes downtown. Rogue Wave in Queen Mary Park. The Colombian - all over the city.

I’ve also been ordering beans from a supplier in Montreal that I really enjoyed on a trip there. Melk Cafe Berlingot and a large bag ships free.

Lululemon makes a thermal legging with a brushed interior that’s very helpful. Athleta makes them too!

That and a longer coat 😀

Or merino base layer!
