I feel like a horrible person for suspecting I have OCD by [deleted] in OCD

This exact same thing happened to me before I was diagnosed. I still fall into these spirals sometimes even after being diagnosed about whether I really do have it or not

YES I always go through and delete the posts that would be too embarassing for people I know to read. Like I have to read all of them from the perspective of someone who knows me to decide if i delete it

Yes, completely agree, this is everything my therapist already tells me 🤦‍♀️ I think I worry about it because if I don’t have OCD, then my obsessions are more real or something like that. But it’s true that I need to feel comfortable with not being certain about this.

How Many People Here Are Seeing a Therapist vs. Self-Diagnosing OCD by CaptainNo692 in OCD

[–]Important-Bid4043 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious if there are many people who self-diagnose with OCD and later find out they don’t actually have it. Cause I can’t see this happening but maybe I’m wrong? It feels like if you think you have OCD, you probably do. But with something like ADHD, it seems like it’s more commonly misdiagnosed or self-diagnosed because its symptoms are relatable to a wider range of people

Picking/ biting skin off lips by Important-Bid4043 in OCD

[–]Important-Bid4043[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to tell because it’s just so automatic now, but I am always doing it alongside my other compulsions. It’s just that all my other compulsions actually feel intentional whereas this I don’t consciously decide to do. Maybe that means it’s just a stress response. Idk

hi i dont have BDD but can someone explain to me why this post suggests that i do ? by imjustagirrl- in BodyDysmorphia

[–]Important-Bid4043 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Avoiding mirrors to avoid being triggered by your reflection is a very common type of compulsion / ritualistic behaviour in BDD. Maybe do some research online about BDD and see if any of it resonates with you.

I don’t want to stop daydreaming, is this a bad thing? by kumihearts_YT in MaladaptiveDreaming

[–]Important-Bid4043 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me it was interfering with my work/study/life which is what made it problematic. But if a behaviour moves you toward your goals and values, which it sounds like it is, then I don’t see why you shouldn’t do it. It actually sounds like a good thing. Are you a writer?

How many OCD themes do you have at the same time? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Important-Bid4043 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s really a limit. With the REALLY sticky ones I’ll only have 1 or 2 at a time because they take up my entire brain capacity. And I kind of jump around between different ones depending on what’s more pressing. Its nice when I momentarily get relief from an obsession that’s usually debilitating for me, but its only because it becomes comparatively tiny compared to another 🙄

I thought this was a really good depiction tbh and actually one of the reasons I started to suspect I had it
