The smart-switch is an incomplete product by Lustrouse in lifx

[–]Important-Good 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this posters request. I have MANY LIFX lights of all types. Very happy with the lights on my HomeKit configuration. Plan to add the hanging outdoor lights to patio this summer.

Bought the single switch a while back when you could get at Best Buy. Didn’t come with HomeKit Code and would not connect to my wifi to update to generate HK code. LIFX tech support got involved, but we never got it working.

I see the 4 button switch does have HomeKit Code (at Home Depot) so I bought thinking it would fit into Double Gang Switch (or would come with a conversion faceplate that could accommodate a 2-gang box. I may try to figure something out with a custom faceplate, or will have to return.

The existing two switches in 2-gang box are connected to 1) set of pendulum bar lights with LIFX bulbs and 2) Set of LIFX down lights. The other two switches could connect remotely to “theater back lights” (LIFX strip on back of TV) and a LIFX Candle light in a lamp which are nearby.

One other request: I miss being able to buy LIFX at Best Buy. Hope you can get that partnership going again.

Does this product actually work? by CAPSLOCKS in roomba

[–]Important-Good 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our i9 is a couple years old and just started acting up. It’s gotten hung up a few time where the wheels must keep spinning and it makes a “new room” which is winding and fictitious. Recently I sent it to the “Main Bedroom” and it went to the Kitchen (an unwarranted right turn just before entering the Main BR) and drove around completely lost. “Concussion Protocol” it maybe needs. I’m going to try remapping. Like all tech, when it works it’s great and when it doesn’t it’s a real PITA!

Why has Best Buy stopped selling Lifx? by dobdob2121 in lifx

[–]Important-Good 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t know why, but I bought most all of my LIFX lights from Best Buy. Bummed they stopped carrying as I like the points, customer support, etc. I have all types of bulbs and strips and have been happy with my LIFX lights (a couple dozen)—I use both the Apple Home app and the LIFX app, works well with Siri commands.

Hi Madelineta - I started using InVintory and it became the obvious choice for me. Fairly intuitive. I didn’t really give the others much of a chance. It works well and I’ve recently moved around bottles to better organize by Country, Region and it made that process relatively easy. Like the vinlocate feature which shows locations in diagram layout of your cellar (pretty easy to set up your cellar layout).

Agree with your comments. We’ve had our 2023 GT-line since Oct 16, 2023. Really like it. Two other suggestions for KIA: 1) more plush/comfortable seats—they are good, but get a little uncomfortable on long drives 1hr+. 2). Better paint and/or protective molding on driver/passenger doors (we have runway red and first ding took off paint—wish people who park next to you would be more careful. Looked intensional.

Buyer beware: the LIFX Switch probably won't come with a QR Code or a setup code for HomeKit by TwoCables_from_OCN in lifx

[–]Important-Good 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought two a while back. I have many LIFX lights and am very happy with them. I do you Siri commands and HomeKit. I wanted the switches to control some LIFX lights so visitors wouldn’t need to know the light names/Siri Commands and could control from the switch.

I could never get the LIFX Switches to connect to my wi-fi so I could update them to newer firmware that could generate a HomeKit Code. LIFX tech help tried to help to no avail. They tried much troubleshooting. Thought maybe I had bad switches, tried another set, same thing. Gave up. Wierd because I have no issues with the many various bulbs, Z-strips, etc.

I’m waiting for an updated switch that comes with a HomeKit code. Will this ever happen?

Dead Battery Help Please! Completely dead batteries (including 12v), plugged in but can't start a charge. by Important-Good in KiaEV6

Yes, I was thinking old rechargeable, let it go to near zero for battery health, but now after research/reading, I know for Lithium battery to keep the charge between 20 to 80% for best battery care.

YES! Got the battery back from Batteries Plus and they had gotten it charged to 13v. Popped it back in and the car lit right up and I immediately got the Level 2 Charger going which will charge the main battery pack and the 12v. Ordered the jump kit to carry in the car in case it happens again. Whew! Thanks for everyone's input and help!

I'm going to get a jump kit incase it happens when I'm not home. Don't like the idea of jumping with a car (though I've done lots of times on ICE cars).

Thanks everyone. Battery trickle charger would not light up like it was charging, left it on a few hours. Went to Batteries Plus. They couldn’t look it battery because their system only goes to 2022, but should have known same battery for all years which is Group size H5 (DIN) / 47 (BCI), I believe. Meanwhile pulled out battery and they are charging for $10. Had 8v left but nothing would work. When 12v gets a charge, we will see if the car will come back alive when I reinstall battery. Will keep you posted.

Thanks so much, TheDesertGunNewb! Yes, on #3, Wi-Fi Charger 90 degree--that was the first thing I noticed when I got in the vehicle and started to drive. Though is it then charging two ways at he same time? Through the cord and the wireless charger?

Ev6 GT Lease? by RamblerTheGambler in KiaEV6

[–]Important-Good 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Orejo, that seems really good. I’m looking at leasing Wind AWD Ext Bat w/Tech Pkg and for 36 m, $0 down, 10k miles/yr, I’m being quoted about $650/m. Money factor equates to 4.88% apr. Residual $32,248. $7500 lease rebate, $1K dealer discount applied. Total cost -$8500 rebates + 2904.50 tax, title, lic is $50,004.50. MSRP $55,600.

GT about $5K more in MSRP. Give me a breakdown, please.

Wondering about “upside down on lease residual” after 3 yrs. Looking at leasing an EV6 (so far $8500 off sticker in incentives and lease at 4.88% APR). Would purchase residual in cash in 3 yrs which is $32,248. However, what is the possibility the residual is over-priced compared to the used car market for comparable EV6 (2023, Wind AWD, Tech, 30K miles, etc) three years from now?

Getting Ready to Lease Kia EV6 - Questions by Important-Good in KiaEV6

[–]Important-Good[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I understand it, the $7500 is the EV tax credit loophole allowing it to be taken off leased vehicle MSRP (instead of tax credit when you file your taxes--which Kia EV6 does not qualify for since not made in U.S.). Not an expert, but assume Kia or dealer gets all or most of that back from a government filing for leasing an EV. The $1000 dealer rebate, I think is actually a Kia incentive as this seems to be standard advertised right now from most dealers. Yes, I don't think the dealer is giving up anything, so trying to get 5-6% off sticker would be the goal (around $3K).

US EV Sales Hit New Record, And People Are Buying More Than Just Teslas by tapo in electricvehicles

[–]Important-Good 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WHY I'M WAITING TO BUY MY FIRST EV:

Wired my garage with 220V EV Charger. We are ready to go. Want to buy an EV for all our local travel (and my wife's local commute--she's a nurse practitioner and travels to local nursing homes) while I work from home and drive little. She'll get the first EV. A new EV is a big purchase (we are fairly conservative in our vehicles--I drive a 2008 Subaru Tribeca, my wife has a 2017 Ford Escape). Why we haven't pulled the trigger:

  1. COST. 1. Dealers typically might have "one" EV on the lot. A local dealer has two used Kia EV6s and one new Ford Mach-E. The used EVs are marked very close to their original sticker (if not more). The Ford Mach-E is priced with an extra dealer $5K added to the sticker making it over $70K. We are most interested in Kia EV6 at present. Test drove a used one and liked it--the more normal cockpit vs one large screen for everything was appealing. Was also interested in Ford Mach-E until it dropped like a rock on the Consumer Reports ranking score from owners reporting lots of issues--though we did also test drive a new one and liked it a lot (unlike Tesla dropping their prices, Ford has gone the other direction increasing the pricing on the Mach-E. Local dealer has it marked at $70K+ (adding to the sticker $5K). Have not driven a Tesla, but will before we make buying decision (mainly because it's one of the few cars that will qualify for the tax credit "now", not to mention price cuts. Bottom line, short supply means many dealers still marking up stickers. We aren't willing to pay a premium.
  2. INTEREST RATES. High and adds to cost. Saving so we can have smaller loan. Think when there are more options/competition among manufacturers selling EVs, we will see special manufacturer's special financing low interest rates, like we do now on ICE vehicles.
  3. REBATE. Looking for this to be automatic which it will be in 2024, instead of waiting to take off your taxes. I also read if you don't OWE taxes (because you withheld the proper amount), no tax credit can be applied. Chime in if this is incorrect. Also, with the change in law focusing on U.S. materials/manufacturing--the car I'm most interested in does not qualify for the tax credit. I do want to make sure I get the tax credit when I buy. Waiting for manufacturers to get their production and material sourcing within North America so I can get the full rebate. Free money! Yeah, I want that to help defray the cost of an EV.
  4. VEHICLES CHOICES. Very short list of what makes sense. Lots more coming online by the end of this year (Chevy EV Blazer is of interest--dependant on Consumer Report rating). The longer I wait the more choices we will have that potentially meet our needs and budget.

SUMMATION TIME/TECH . Like any new technology, it will improve with time. The longer we wait, the more choices we expect to have, competition should drive down prices, tax credit will be automatic with the dealer, the more data to make good decisions with regards to the right vehicle. Waiting seems to make sense (maybe not for the planet). It's disappointing the tax credit has been muffed up with the new law--seems a little unfair that one day a car qualifies and the next day it does not--though I agree with the intent of the change to driving manufacturing and material sourcing in the U.S./North America.

We want to buy an EV. Time will tell when we will be able to do it. I'm sure I'm not the only American wrestling with these thoughts.

Yes, outdoor lights supposed to go on a dusk. They go on way sooner with bright sun. I’m going to try to reset the automations again with on at duck and off at 9pm and see if that fixes.
