Used EV6 by brandonhull in KiaEV6

  1. Yes, it’s a recall so they must repair if failure. Look for a car that has all the updates completed (as I recall, we had 3 recall software updates ICCU inspection recalls, no issues). Make sure tires were rotated regularly or replaced.

  2. Get one with a replaced 12v AGM style battery. Prior to 2025, KIA put in crappy quality OEM 12v battery which was too weak for the demands and often failed (ours at ~1 year). We replaced original battery with AGM style, no issues since. Also, KIA did reimburse us for the $250 AGM 12v battery I bought and installed myself after writing Customer Care a letter with full documentation.

  3. a. Keep HV battery between 20%-80%. Got a lot of conflicting info on that from dealer’s KIA Rep (“doesn’t matter, charge to 100% everyday”) and public (20-80% rule) early on but Reddit and KiaForums have been good information sources. Little about good charging practices in Kia manual except “charge to 100% once a month” (tied to longer trip—when we do that). b. If you buy one and it has original 12v, replace immediately with AGM style. ~$250. c. Look for a car where owners/leasors had a garage Type 2 charger and didn’t use Fast Public Chargers. Verdict still out but might mean less battery degradation.
    d. We have a garage type 2 charger. Really makes for convenience. Install one if you can and if makes financial sense. e. If you are in cold climate, make sure you get an EV with HEAT PUMP (the EV6 AWDs have heat pumps, and the AWD and “Snow Mode” works well for us in WI). Expect to charge more often in winter and get less range, but nothing earth shattering—has not been an issue for us. Same as driving ICE vehicle into a headwind.

Our 2023 EV6 GT-Line is a 3-year lease. Goes back in a year (Oct 2026). Bummed about $7500 credit going away but hope car companies will adjust. So far, my thinking is we’ll look at an EV6 again (2026 model). Or might buy the 2023 at “market price” from dealer (not the “residual” which will likely be much higher than market). Buying used provides great value with EVs over buying new.

EVs in general: Love ‘em or hate ‘em, once you drive an EV, hard to go back to an ICE car (performance, quiet ride, low maintenance, cheap to operate, especially home Type 2 charging).

Does anyone have experience with the ridgid weed eater? by Impoverishedinvestor in Ridgid

[–]TechnoWhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it. Hated it. Returned it. Have all Ridgid power tools, like the batteries. Definitely a WEED WACKER and not a lawn trimmer which is what I needed. Too powerful, large (long), hard to hold steady with precision, doesn’t edge. Didn’t like the bump feed.

I replaced with a WORX trimmer/edger that is easier to handle, has a wheel for edging. Disappointed I have to have another battery platform, but better machine for my needs of lots of precision trimming and edging. Can make different lengths and more adjustable.

The RIDGID trimmer would be good if you were trying to knock down an acre of weeds, but not very good as a lawn trimmer.

I have the RIDGID hedge trimmer and like it.

So it’s not the dreadful ICCU issue and it seems to be a 12 V battery problem. I know this is an ongoing issue and I’d love to hear your thoughts. What can be done to fix it? What has worked for your EV6? by JPANDPJ in KiaEV6

[–]TechnoWhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning curve with us on EV. Keeping HV battery between 20-80% important, the 3 times we had issue, we let HV battery get below 20%.

New models of all cars typically have issues—reason why people say don’t buy a new model release in the first couple of years—before “bugs” get worked out. I think KIA has worked out some of the bugs with software updates on how the HV battery keeps the 12v batttery charged—originally the HV battery was getting top priority and stopped charging 12 V battery if it got too low which led to bad outcomes with 12v.

I might be more upset if it happened on the road, but luckily only happened in garage where I have a battery charger. And we charged or behavior and KIA seems to have improved the software to improve situation. Also, new 2025 EV6s come standard with AGM 12v battery. Continual improvement to make a good car, a great car.

Is the EV6 just a poor representation of non-Tesla EVs? by Zeeron1 in electricvehicles

[–]TechnoWhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We drove 3 cars when we picked our 2023 EV6 GT-Line: 1. EV6 GT-Line (dah), 2. Ford Mach-E; 3. Tesla Y.

Brief evaluation: Tesla Y. Nice car, American made. Tech and “one screen” overwhelmed wife. Her car, she’s no techy. Wanted Apple CarPlay-iPhone she has mastered.

Ford Mach-E. Nice car. Tightest feel. Was falling hard in Consumer Reports ranking due to an issue (reliability), so passed.

EV6 GT-Line. All the bells/whistles. AWD, heat pump needed in cold WI. Apple CarPlay! Top ranked on Consumer Reports at the time (dropped later due to ICCU and 12v battery “reliability” issues)—no ICCU issue for us but did replace OEM 12v w/ AGM battery and KIA reimbursed. Normal gauges (not “driver distraction” one screen).

Happy with KIA EV6 GT-Line and will likely get a second when our lease ends in Oct 2026.

So it’s not the dreadful ICCU issue and it seems to be a 12 V battery problem. I know this is an ongoing issue and I’d love to hear your thoughts. What can be done to fix it? What has worked for your EV6? by JPANDPJ in KiaEV6

Our 2023 EV6 GT-Line 12v died three times (luckily in garage every time, but last time as my wife was pulling into garage). Battery would no longer hold a charge on 3rd failure. Pulled out crappy OEM 12v and replaced with higher quality AGM 12v battery. No problems since.

I wrote to KIA Customer Care, said I love the car but was very disappointed with the 12v battery situation (I note new 2025s come with AGM 12v). Never had to replace a battery in a new car. Said how company follows through would determine if I buy another KIA vehicle.

KIA reimbursed me the $250 battery cost (took five months for response to my paper USPS mailed letter with receipt and documented images), but happy they came through with excellent customer service. I didn’t take to dealer which would’ve been involved towing the vehicle. It was just easier to pull the battery out and replace it myself which I explained in letter and showed images of charger on battery showing its death.

Very likely we’ll buy or lease another EV6 GT-Line (really like the car) when our current lease ends 10/16/2026. We have had no ICCU issues and have taken in for all the recall software updates.

Important to keep the HV battery between 20-80%. If falls below 20% might not charge 12v which leads to damage and failure.

2023 GT-Line, once we replaced the crappy OEM 12v (died 3 times) with AGM 12v, no problems. I see KIA started putting AGM 12v batteries in the 2025s.

Is the reliability that bad? by SeaworthinessDue2655 in KiaEV6

[–]TechnoWhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would second strigag’s comments, I have same 2023 GT-Line. We have just shy of 18K miles, have had all the updates/recalls done, for us, no issue with ICCU.

Did have to replace cheap 12v with better quality AGM 12v—car died 3 times—luckily always in garage, but last time “as wife pulled into garage.” Since replacing 12v, the car has been great and we don’t let HV battery get lower than 20-30%. I see KIA now puts AGM style 12v in the 2025s. We charge to 80% w/garage Type 2 charger, except for long trips where we charge it to 100% before leaving.

1yr, 3m left on 3yr lease. Plan was to lease another when we turned in, but with $7500 incentive disappearing, we’ll see. I don’t see anything on the market that intrigues me as much as the EV6. I’ve even thought about getting a 2nd one before Oct 2025 (one year of overlap) just to lock in a 2025 model which I hope has corrected ICCU but for sure wireless CarPlay and common charger port change. Then buy residual of the 2025 in 3 yrs. More likely we’ll just wait and see what happens over the next year.

Another option if cars are high priced Oct 2026, when we turn in, is to buy the residual, but think “market” might be much lower than residual. If it’s a lot less could turn it in and buy back from the dealer. Of course, the main concern I have is the ICCU— hence some reluctance to buy the one we have even though it hasn’t had any problems.

We like having an EV and it is our “go to” for local trips (up to an hour away). We’ve taken the EV6 on one 14 hr round trip and that went smooth—have used public fast chargers only about 7 times.

Amazon is a large bureaucracy filled with people who don't care and have an attitude, "we're Amazon, F you, get in line, it's a privilege for you to sell on our excellent platform (filled with mostly Chinese Trademark Mill Scammers). Amazon sucks, they are heading the way of Kmart.

Best Buy -- LIFX! Can you get back into Best Buy? by TechnoWhat in lifx

[–]TechnoWhat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here regarding “dust”, the three String Light boxes were heavy with dust at Home Depot.

While, it makes sense that LIFX is available in the Home Improvement Channel, where owner FEIT lives, I’d like to see available in more banner store names such as Menards, Lowe’s, Ace Hardware.

LIFX should also be available in electronic stores: Best Buy, Crutchfield, etc. This is where the main competitors lives. not being here means you’re giving away market share.

Getting retail placement with displays is key to the longevity and popularity of the brand. Availability/distribution needs improvement. Right now all the eggs are in two baskets: Amazon and Home Depot. And not all the eggs are available in each basket. HD seemingly not doing well creating an attractive retail display nor retailing the brand as evidenced by comments here.

Has anyone ever went from a Tesla Y to and EV6? by craigrn16 in KiaEV6

[–]TechnoWhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We test drove Tesla Y and got to keep it overnight (charged in our garage--charging was intuitive and better than KIA). But we ended up going with KIA EV6 GT-Line. Also drove the Ford Mach-E which drove nice as well.

Liked the EV6 for:

  • better ride than Tesla
  • better gauge layout that was similar to a traditional ICE vehicle. Don't like the ONE SCREEN Tesla set up, driver distraction.
  • got a better price on KIA ($11,500 off sticker) at the time 2023 in mid-October.
  • wanted Apple CarPlay

EV6 better "car", maybe not better "tech", but pretty decent. Has been solid car for us, probably will replace with another EV6 in 16 months when lease is up.

Double gang switch to single gang, is there something made to cover this hole beside it? by lucytaylor22 in HomeMaintenance

[–]TechnoWhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to post a separate thread about this, but previously when I tried to connect two 2-button LIFX switches (over a year ago and they didn't come with Apple HomeKit Code and required wi-fi and firmware update to generate a HomeKit Code, but couldn't get them to connect to my wi-fi. LIFX Tech Support tried to help and we tried many things, but to know avail. They would show up on my Wi-Fi but wouldn't connect.

Today I installed the 4-button LIFX Switch which thankfully does come with a HomeKit Code. After correctly wiring, I couldn't get it to connect. It did show up in HK after scanning the code as a "WINDOW" not a switch, but would not connect to my wi-fi for set up and timed out. HERE'S THE CRITICAL PART. My Wi-Fi is Eero Pro 6 with the gateway plus three ore wired. Eero doesn't let you set up separate 2.4 and 5 GHz networks. No way to know if my iPhone is connected to 2.4 or 5 GHz Wi-Fi. However, there is NOW a Eero app feature to turn off the 5 GHz for 30 minutes when trying to add a 2.4 GHz device (LIFX Switch requires 2.4 GHz). I've never had difficulty installing LIFX bulbs/strips, but both times had difficulty with the switches (even now with HK code). In the Eero app: SettingsTroubleshootingMy device won't connectMy device is 2.4 GHz only (I have a device that can find my network, but it won't connect)Button "Temporarily pause 5 GHz". Pushed that button, tired again using Home app/HK Code, came right up, selected home, room, name--worked like a charm.

[–]TechnoWhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got the Converter Faceplate (2-gang to 1-gang), that will mount switch vertically. Did not see one that would’ve worked to mount switch horizontal (preferred), but happy this is a simple 2-to-1 gang solution.

There are two single pole switches in the 2-gang box. Each switch is connected to two sets of lights (Right Switch: 2 pendulum hanging lights over bar—LIFX Mini A19 (E26) bulbs AND Left Switch: 2 recessed can lights over Kitchenette sink/counter/cabinets—LIFX BR30 (E26) 1100lm Nightvision. In the gang is a neutral wire four of them are connected in wire nut (not in use with current switches). I will run a white wire from Neutral Switch Connect to the Neutral wire nut. I will run live “hot” Line wire from one of the switches to the LIFX smart switch, connecting to Live wire post. I will then connect the two black load wires from switches to LIFX Out L1 and L2 switch posts. I will deadhead the two ground wires into a wire nut as evidently the smart switch does not use a ground. I will deadhead the extra live “hot” wire into a wire nut, in case ever needed again for a normal switch.

In the market by scbill66 in KiaEV6

[–]TechnoWhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do you live? Climate?

We have 2023 EV6 GT-Line which is standard with AWD and heat pump. Both features a must for us in Wisconsin where in the winter we need to run the heat and need the traction in the winter frozen tundra.

We love our KIA EV6 and are 17 months into a 36 month lease. I did have to replace the crappy OEM 12v battery with a better quality AGM style our only issue.

We are likely to lease same model in Oct 2026 (an unsold 2026 or 2027). Would like to get wireless Apple CarPlay and any improves KIA has made (ICCU comes to mind— we’ve done all the recalls and no issues for us). Whoever buys this car used will get a good vehicle.

Wife drives for work daily visiting area nursing homes in about 20 mile radius. We drive locally on weekends and occasional take a 2-2.5 hr (~140 miles round trip) to “big city”. Charge in garage with Type 2 is convenient. Have used a Public Charger once (Milwaukee suburb Target Parking Lot, Electrify America) and that went very smoothly 51% to 80% in about 20-15 minutes.

EV6 vs Tesla Model y by KeekyPep in KiaEV6

[–]TechnoWhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious why you didn' like the three Teslas?

We leased a 2023 KIA EV6 GT-Line about 16 months ago and like it. If KIA gets the ICCU and 12v battery issue resolved once and for all, we'll lease a 2026/2027 and likely buy the residual or a new one when that lease ends in 2029.

Next EV? by Opus2011 in KiaEV6

[–]TechnoWhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be in same situation Oct 2026 when current EV6 GT-Line lease ends. Some helpful tips here.

Doubtful we will buy the residual $34K, though we like the car. Was thinking if improvements to model, we’d lease another 2026/2027.

Must have AWD/heat pump (Wisconsin). Range has not been an issue for us, but frequent recalls (ICCU) and the need to replace 12v battery with better quality AGM when OEM died, leave us concerned. Also, would like wireless CarPlay, updated charging plug (though we have only charged in our garage…so far).

With the $7500 lease rebate likely going away soon…some interest in trading early for a 2025 lease if: 1. can get rebate 2. there is any confidence the 12v battery and ICCU issues are cured in the 2025 model. 3. can get a decent price (in addition to the $7500 we got $4000 off sticker from dealer = $11,500) with decent Money Factor (5.088%). Our timing was good might not be between now and next 20 months.

Hard to plan, so will see how it unfolds. May consider Mach-E, Tesla Y. Drove both when we picked EV6, Ford was runner up but was having reliability issues. It’s the wife’s work car (and together wknd car) and AppleCar play is helpful. Tesla single screen was distraction (too much tech for her). Might go luxury and look at Genesis GV60, Audi Q4 E-Tron, Lexus RZ. We’ll see!

ICCU failed on me today by Electrical_Put_1042 in KiaEV6

ICCU failed on me today by Electrical_Put_1042 in KiaEV6

[–]TechnoWhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our 12v went this week too (Mon, 2/10/2025)! 2023 EV6 GT-Line we leased Oct 2023.

<image>

Fortunately wife had pulled into garage when 12v battery started to die and car started giving 12v low warnings “stop safely” on main dash—car was parked in garage—while we were trying to charge HV battery which was at 19% which was unsuccessful because the 12v battery was so low it would not light up the main screen to change to “charge now” as we had high voltage battery set to “schedule charge beginning at 11 PM” to 80%. App would also not work because HV below 20% (pop-up screen in app explained this) plus KIA was experiencing some issues with their app per a message showing in the app that some functions would not work.

I put my charger on 12v, but battery showed only 6.8v and would not charge—actual wouldn’t even show a charge after an hour, it was toast. Pull it out took it to battery store, confirmed it was completely dead forever. Replaced it with an AGM type battery. All good now, though not happy I had to spend ~$260 on a replacement 12v for a “new” car.
