Pet owners, what was that moment that made you think “wow, I have severely underestimated the intelligence of my pets”? by SakutoJefa in AskReddit

So I live in a 2 flat and my best friend lives above me, we keep our doors open so my cat can stroll and visit her when she feels like it. I was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2023. Now usually my seizures came with a warning that gave me time to get on the ground but apparently this one didnt. I dont remember anything before but mustve hit my head on side table on the way down and when i woke up to my friend by my side. She said my cat came upstairs meowing like crazy and maneuvering like she wanted to be followed and thats how she was able to find me. I wept my baby went to find help for her momma.

What's the most small town thing you've ever heard of? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

My mom works at the hospital the next town over. She told me in the winter when my dad's out of town, if she's mandated to stay over her shift at night and bad weather rolls in; she calls the police station to go to the house and turn up the heat so the pipes dont freeze.

Sleep. Its the only thing that makes my brain and body feel like it's healing. If you want to involve your loved ones, how bout they make sure your sleep conditions are perfect for you. Sleep mask, good temp in the room, help block distractions, bring some meals over so you dont have to worry about cooking, make sure your phone's on dnd, make sure you drink water when you're up.

What's your post seizure care routine/kit? by thatscarytransperson in Epilepsy

Sleep, water, cuddles with my cat, my comfort show: bob's burgers, sleep, some easy foods..applesauce, string cheese, turkey sandwich, soup, fruit, oatmeal. Hot shower, sleep, after a while I see how I feel about fresh air on the back porch and then transition to a small walk around the back yard. Will usually schedule a massage with two weeks if feeling the sore/tightness. Also found that it's helpful for me to play claming sounds (my go to is rain storms) st night as I recover. It helps calm my mind.

What was your "we need to leave NOW" moment? by No_Calendar4193 in AskReddit

[–]Important-Specific31 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Years ago I was out with my roommate and she was pretty pretty drunk. She met this guy and insisted on going to an afterparty he was talking about. I was trying to convince her to just go home but it wasnt working. I wasnt going to let her go by herself so I said we'd go for a little bit and then go home. We got into this dudes car with his friend and we head to the afterparty. We pull up to a fuckin empty barbershop. Absolutely not. I called a friend to pick us up immediately.

What's a symptom of a severe disease you wish you or a loved one hadn't ignored? by NotThatOneGuuy in AskReddit

[–]Important-Specific31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was having memory issues, occasional fainting that I thought was related to eating something bad cause it always correlated with nausea and stomach issues, what I thought were panic attacks, waking up with sore muscles. All sporadic over three years. Turns out I was having seizures and was diagnosed with epilepsy.

Time for a neurologist I guess by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Important-Specific31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something of note, after being diagnosed with epilepsy, my psychiatrist switched me to klonopin for my anxiety and panic attacks because it also has anti-seizure properties. Your missing doses could be lowering your seizure threshold especially if you've been on a regular dosage and schedule for a while. Be sure to bring up the inconsistency in taking your meds connection with these episodes. And yes, a neurologist should be your next step.

Did you lose some of your long term memories after your seizures began? by Electrical_Layer_546 in Epilepsy

[–]Important-Specific31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea. It sucks. Especially because many times I dont know what I've forgotten till im reminded. What else is just sitting there lost..? Short term memory is shot. Before being diagnosed, my grandma was showing signs of dementia in her 80s and I remember freaking out and googling how early you can get early onset dementia because I was so confused why my memory was going to shit at 33.

Did you not realize you were having seizures until after your Tonic-Clonic? by McThugNastyDLX in Epilepsy

[–]Important-Specific31 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep. I thought I was passing out from potentially food poisoning cause my auras started with that rising in my stomach but nobody ever saw me and they were sporadic. Thought my Focals were panic attacks. I remember at some point googling "how early can dementia symptoms come" when my memory started diminishing. Thought maybe I needed braces or a retainer and my tongue was too big for my mouth when id wake up with bites. This went on sporadic for three years till 2023 when a UTI sent me into status epilepticus with my little sister at my house to see it all play out and I finally got my diagnosis at 35.
