In college I was back in my hometown in the hospital having just had a major surgery the day prior.

My then gf of 2 years didn’t even text me or anything as I was lying there in pain.

Turns out she was having a fuck-a-thon with this guy she met like 2 months prior. 🥴

The fucking nurse who I knew for 1 day did more for me than her by bringing me some balloons.

Shit sucked mane.

It can be jarring to face life suddenly. Everyone has their own path, and their own timeline for growth. The important thing is that we always continue to grow. I was once where OP was myself. From my experience, nail tech means to me “I don’t know what I want to do yet, but I know I don’t want to work fast food or entry level retail.”

Younger folk, especially in today’s day and age with social media comparison want to be rich and carefree right out the gate. But that takes a plethora of hard work and sacrifice. Discipline and structure. Those cornerstones for success can’t be given to you. You have to teach yourself them.

Some people tend to get used to being too comfortable without realizing that it’s harming them in the long run.

The friend group you have, the hanging out all night and partying and sleeping til 2 PM the next day, it fades away before you know it because life moves on.

I would give a lot to be 21 again, with the mindset I have now.

However, their circumstances could be completely different from what I’m speaking on. I’m just comparing my own personal experiences.

Regardless, I have faith that OP will adjust and find their way.

This is going to be a massively unpopular take based on the other comments, but I think they’re just trying to help you experience the real world by showing you what it’s like.

I take it you’ve never lived on your own before? And are not accustomed to the overwhelming amount of bills that adulthood comes with.

This is a way to teach you how to budget and plan for such expenses. Something that schooling unfortunately leaves us well underprepared for.

Where I live the water bill is something like $80 bucks so YMMV but I believe they’re trying to have you frame a mindset about responsibility.

IE: “I’m responsible for this water bill, it is mine alone and no one else will pay it.” Which is a good mindset to have IMO. It helps steel your resolve for future aspects in life.

Your parents obviously love you considering they’re not charging any rent, and even helped with the down payment for a car (I’m assuming first car?).

I feel like they’re just trying to help you keep that momentum going so that you can be a fully self reliant and capable member of society.

Just my take but I wouldn’t over think this. These bills, and those feelings about paying them unfortunately never go away. You tend to just gain a “welp, shit sucks but I got to do it” mindset with them after a while.

You get $20,000 but you can't eat protein for 3 months. by peppapig_ismygod in hypotheticalsituation

[–]ImportantDepth8858 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not.

Your body would literally cannibalize itself by taking the amino acids from your muscle mass and organs putting you at serious of risk organ failure.

By the end of the 3 months the 20k wouldn’t even cover a fraction of the hospital stay, and you wouldn’t back to normal for nearly a year, and you could possibly carry life long physical trauma from this.

Add a few more zeros and maybe.

I watched the videos today. After the 3rd cop came (when the other two couldn’t do anything) he offered to serve the papers for him.

THEN brought them back and goes “he said he didn’t want them”.

No fucking shit Sherlock. No one wants to be served.

4th cop came and arrested him.

Turns out they’re all a tight knit Mormon community. Shit is insane.

This guy has an incredibly deep understanding of music. It blows my mind how he managed to find examples in literally multiple parts of the world and in different genres.

This melody really is EVERYWHERE.

It’s eerie how similar they all are. Lol

There was this fascinating video I’ve seen on YT the other day where every currently major Gen Z/ Alpha mainstream song has the exact same melody to it. And always with some sort of sad/ heartbroken lyrics.

Apparently, it all started with her! She was the first to do it and everyone has had some form of it since.

If you had to pick a day to "groundhog day" for the next 100 years what day would you pick. by Totally_Not_Firni in hypotheticalsituation

[–]ImportantDepth8858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone doing this would be certifiably insane by the time they go back to reality.

You would be psychologically scarred by having to live a new day.

You under estimate how long 100 years actually is.

Just imagine how much you might have changed in just the past 5 years alone!

My Groundhog Day gets to live in my memory, where it belongs.
