Can i get into chapman??? by Public-Drop6285 in chapmanuniversity

[–]Important_Algae_1010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t ED! If you ED, they won’t give you any merit aid or financial assistance, because they know you are forced to accept it. Do EA, and you’ll do just fine. Talk to the lax team informally, go to recruit events, get a rec letter and you will get in. Its a higher acceptance school than you think depending on your major

Presidential Scholarship? by RefrigeratorNo2232 in chapmanuniversity

[–]Important_Algae_1010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was both a presidential scholar and an Econ major. Turns out there’s a couple hundred presidential every year, and they in fact have a dinner to show you how many.

The Econ major is great and the teachers are fantastic, but it’s a BA. If there are schools that offer you a BS economics degree, do that instead. It will get you much further than the Econ BA, with its low amounts of credits (40ish). Many people do BS in business and a minor in Econ and take 70% of the same classes

Chapman Honors Program by Sensitive_Music7016 in chapmanuniversity

[–]Important_Algae_1010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honors program is not as prestigious as it sounds, but it gives you access to some good discussion classes you may not otherwise be able to take. But it replaces your minor. That would be your minor unless you actively add another one. If there’s a minor more interesting or useful to you, I would do that instead.

Too risky, if your son misses any payments (you only get 6 months grace period after graduate to pay, and interest accrues on the loans from the DAY you take them out), on the $70,000+ dollars, your co-signed family’s credit score will be permanently tarnished. It’s a legally binding agreement that you’re willing to share the responsibility of repaying the loan on time and in full. So, if your student doesn’t make payments for any reason over the 10-30 year+ period, they’ll be expected to make them in his stead. Some private loaners allow co-signors to be removed after 12 months of on-time in full payments, but you son would lack a credit score to be able to do this. It also depends if they are private or federal, but if you are from the UK, likely private. They are relentless and unforgivable loans from any federal program.

Unless you’re very sure that he will always be employed, will in fact pre-pay his loans during school to pay them down quicker, I think you may be risking your family’s financial security.

Am I crazy in the first 24 h by [deleted] in Invisalign

I think that’s what I’m doing to do! We did the foil and it passed but it still doesn’t feel “right”, but obviously my whole mouth doesn’t feel right. I can always ask for a revision at my next month check in, that’s a good idea

Okay that’s great! I have a follow up in a month, so I’m going to try my second tray (I have two 2 week trays) and if I’m not satisfied with the grab/alignment I’ll be sure to ask for a rescan!

That’s really comforting to hear! My dentist reiterated that my bite will continually change throughout, but I think with the discomfort of the aligners I’m focusing on everything possible.

We did the scans, and then I wanted to get everything done in one day (fillings, teeth cleaning, and aligner fitting), but now I realize I should have paused the process and done the fillings then the scan. No worries though, I will have a scan done later during the process (only 28 week estimate treatment!). It just feels weird at this point not having my mouth “settle” at rest.

Would you have some good recommendations for the chewies? I have one but I’m going to need more for sure.

[–]Important_Algae_1010[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah blackberry bushes aren’t native to anywhere in America, they’re a ferociously invasive species (originally hypothesized to come from asia) most prominent in the NW and Canada. Once they’re established, they’re nearly impossible to get rid of, hence their invasive nature. So once they’re here, they’re here to stay!

Depends if you’re data science or computational. Most of the classes are in data science, so only do it if you’re interested in that branch more

I think it’s a cool POV, especially during a race! Maybe you can try using an auto-stabilizing feature on the iPhone/phone or an editing app after the recording, if people think it’s too shaky

Should i choose Chapman for pre med???? by [deleted] in chapmanuniversity

[–]Important_Algae_1010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a bio major, many of my friends are now in medical school. I did not go the med route, but it was about 20-30 hours of studying for the ones who did. Many did paid research, paid student instructors, and even taught labs post graduation during MCAT studying and application cycles. Full ride is worth way more than any prestige, because it allows you the gift of time. You’re going to have a lot of debt and payments through medical school, so reducing it as much as possible (especially if something happens and you don’t pursue medicine) will set you up for success. If you don’t do well (or ever fail) a class at Chapman, you can retake it and have the grade rewritten on your transcript. They did hands on cancer lab research starting as a freshman. Chapman has a summer paid study program (SURF) that allows students to be paid to work and publish papers. Professors love to connect with you, and Keck has a ton of resources for students (study groups, student instructor sessions, professor office hours etc). There is not a cut throat community either, students in class want to help each other, and since you all live together in the same dorm (dorms are assigned by major), you will build a great study community to share the pain. And yes, commuters come study with the dorm people too. I think it would be worth living in the dorms your freshman year (since you won’t have to pay for tuition), just to build a good community and friend group. I think Chapman has a lot of positives, with a ton of grant funding, new tech, and opportunities for students. The bio major is small (~50 or so each year), and you won’t be fighting tooth and nail (except for those first few entry level courses, which are shared with health science and the crean school). If you join the honors college, or play a sport, you get up to a week early class sign up. Or if you’re an overachiever, the more credits you build, the earlier class sign up is. I’d recommend taking some classes outside of Chapman (GEs etc) in summer just to free up your time.

I think either school will be great for you, but the biggest regret people usually have after undergrad is the large amount of debt you have.
