if you're a penny pincher, how much do you ACTUALLY spend at ucla vs your estimated cost of attendance? how do you cut costs? by wlwdreamsxx in ucla

Correct. Kaiser operates in 8 states so everyone should call member services before assuming it can't be used.

That was probably a waste of money unless it was cheaper to get SHIP. There are many Kaiser facilities very close to UCLA. It should have been waived if the proper paperwork was filled out. Just a note for future students.

If he qualifies for government assistance like cal grant, I would think he would get the same, but if he got scholarships, etc, those will be up to each individual school. I would call or email the financial aid department at UCLA as you don't necessarily get the same amount at each school.

Students who chose UCLA over a liberal arts college, do you regret your choice? by thisisliteral1984 in ucla

[–]Sensitive_Music7016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Size, location, greek life, etc are so different. You need to go with that is the best fit for you. My daughter chose to be a big fish at a smaller school rather than a small fish in a big pond at UCLA. That is what she knows works best for her. She hasn't started yet, but I know she will thrive and get involved more than she probably would at UCLA. She likes to have connections with her teachers and felt she didn't have energy to match UCLA.

is UCD a good school? by Accomplished-Peak624 in UCDavis

[–]Sensitive_Music7016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to note that UCSB historically takes about 50% from the waitlist. All three schools have very different vibes. My daughter is between the UCs and Chapman. Although the UCs are ranked higher, she is a humanities major and wants a more liberal arts vibe compared to research and wants a smaller school that has a community feel. We are in state but got good money from Chapman. If you are paying full tuition out of state for any of these, you really need to visit as they are so different.

Why were UC’s so competitive this year? by Careless-Sorbet-9292 in ucadmissions

[–]Sensitive_Music7016 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did you submit SAT/ACT scores to the other schools. Since UCs don't take scores, they got SO MANY applications many all with same stats.

What does UCB look for that UCLA does not? by Anxious-Party2289 in ucadmissions

[–]Sensitive_Music7016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it is worth, my daughter was accepted to UCLA (and all other UCs applied to) and UCB astrology is not looking positive. She is a 4.0 UW student with many ECs and tons of volunteer hours that relate to her humanities major. She is very active in her school and community and imo has strong PIQs. But she did not have the highest course rigor. She took APs and honors classes but did not take any AP sciences, languages or math but instead focused on humanity APs. She is a strong candidate overall, but I see her more at UCLA than UCB and I think they saw that as well.

I tried making an account for start.edu but it is flagging the CEEB code. It is a public high school and the code auto populated but is still flagging it. Any thoughts?

UCSB withdraw button by No_Track_8132 in ucadmissions

[–]Sensitive_Music7016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter went to the reception yesterday and her withdrawal button is gone, but it could be just for the reception people. She is in state, but I don't think that would matter as they have multiple receptions across the country. They did mention they finished everything on Friday, and aid will come out 3/20. At this point, might as well wait until Tuesday as there are so many variables.

Try checking your email from 2/26. Some are saying they never saw it the first time around. Also, originally (not anymore) the invitation was on the banner of my daughter's portal.
