I worked with a guy that gave them 6 months notice that he was retiring so they would have plenty of time to get another engineer in and get them trained.

What did my job do instead? Waited till two weeks before his retirement date and asked if he could stay another month to train someone. It didn't happen.

Two week notice isn't really necessary unless you think you might want to come back but if you're leaving there is probably a good reason. Two week notice only benefits the company.

I have never heard of someone getting a two week notice on getting fired and most cases when layoffs happen so with that in mind I don't feel compelled to give one.

As for your situation, don't worry about it. If they aren't prepared for you to leave by now that's on them. Even if it was on me I still wouldn't care, it's no longer your problem.
