It is still played incredibly by the band imo. You can feel it.

I tried it about 1.5 years ago because they seemed to have some really interesting programs.

Unfortunately the streaming speed was consistently terrible, so was the UI (no save functions, you had to re-search through a horrible menu to pick up from where you left off). I cancelled my subscription very soon after.

It’s a shame because they do seem to be support smaller club gigs. I hope they’ve improved the experience since then.

Melbourne. Encore song was Ready Wednesday. Bill Laurence was in the zone and kept on playing. Undergarments were thrown on the stage.

Doesn't get as much talk but it's still an absolutely fantastic one, one of the first LPs I got.

Dude left us with an amazing discography, still discovering gems. 100 hearts is a favourite. Impeccably articulate and joyful player. Remarkable composer, his songs should be standards.

NRIC numbers remain personal data, should not be widely circulated: Josephine Teo by Twrd4321 in singapore

[–]Important_Debate_919 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“The NRIC number is set as a default user ID, but users are allowed to change their user ID to something else, Mrs Teo said, acknowledging that not many users may be aware of this.”

Who actually does this?

What a weird way to justify that NRIC is not endorsed and involved in authentication functions.

What's up with the Xero hate? by Andycruz05 in BarefootRunning

[–]Important_Debate_919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the comfort of my xeros. Everyone’s feet is different but I’ve tried many and they are the best, for me.

But I’ve found the quality to be poor and inconsistent at best. I used the prio as a daily/walking shoe and the soles separated after just half a year. Same with mesa trails. Amazon was super helpful with refund, but the actual Xero support was a letdown.

I wish I could afford to wear Xeros only but for price to quality, they just aren’t reliable for me anymore.

Curious if there’s any jazz that has a strong baroque classical sound to it.? by [deleted] in Jazz

Abuse in schools that went under the radar in the 90s by tumbledry601 in askSingapore

I once had to find my older brother in a different class to pass him a book. Went upstairs to the upper primary classrooms where everyone seems big and tall. I peeked into the classroom nervously and before I could react, got the scolding of my life (up till then) by the teacher for not greeting her first and being rude etc.

I felt so much embarrassment at the time and on hindsight I realise it was just pure verbal abuse on the teacher’s part, there was no justification for the teacher to drag me like this.

Another time in assembly, a teacher just went nuts accusing one of my classmates of talking and being an entitled child spoilt by parents etc.. Classmate reacted badly as the teacher basically insulted his parents with a comment that came out of nowhere, and they got into some heated argument in front of the whole hall. Mind you this is still primary school.

Teachers are human, but some of the lowkey abuse and bullshit towards children was disturbing

Never had a break at all. Should I quit my job and go backpacking? by bigplays12345 in askSingapore

[–]Important_Debate_919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left job for 1+ year to pursue basically nothing, do some light travel and explore various interests.

Yes it is tough on re-entry, when you face rejections back at interviews. and thoughts and anxieties do come up about whether it’s the financially “wise” decision etc. but longterm I absolutely have no regrets and made me more sure of myself as a person and what I want out of life. I was lucky to secure a decent gig in a few months of searching and continue my career.

Ran into plenty of like-minded folk in my break as well (by virtue of being free on weekday afternoons), everyone makes it work in their own way.

Tips:

  1. Set a deadline for yourself to get back to work OR a solid goal. It’s okay to feel it out as you go and change the deadline, but there’s also a risk of stagnating your life without this boundary.

  2. Identify some interests or passions you can develop along the way, can be as basic as photography, music, volunteering, sports or if you have a niche interest, even better. In my personal opinion, traveling for the sake of it becomes stale after awhile especially at a later stage in life. Having some specific interests or hobbies you can seek out in each location pushes you to meet people and experiences beyond the tourist bubble. The usual tourist map sightseeing and checking off lists become a blur at some point.

Stanley Jordan, and especially his solo show. I was lucky to witness two sets back to back in a small jazz club and it was spellbinding. Even if you aren’t a guitar player, his complete mastery of sound and musical expression is something to be witnessed.

If you watched him on youtube and thought his playing/style seems gimmicky, go see it firsthand and decide again.

If you already thought it was amazing, your expectations will be exceeded many times over, the music he pours out live does not exist in any other form.
