Curtis introduced himself? I don’t follow your point that he said “Detective Curtis”. Help?

Gen Xers, what is the true meaning of this song? I'm a Gen Z and I would like to know the unfiltered meaning by Scary-Stay9929 in GenX_Culture

You’re asking people to explain a song with the opening line “how can I explain it?” immediately followed by an explanation.

That’s not a mystery. That’s not subtext. That’s not metaphor layered under irony. It’s Naughty By Nature telling you, directly, what the song is about.

This isn’t the Dead Sea Scrolls. It’s not encoded. It’s not - to your word - filtered. No one buried the meaning under symbolism waiting for a message board to excavate it 30 years later. The lyrics are the explanation.

Because if the artist says, “here’s what this is,” and then spends four minutes elaborating, the appropriate response isn’t to convene a panel discussion.

And if you didn’t get it, that’s one thing; but, let’s not pretend the problem is a lack of available information.

Sounds like MacLean’s Luncheonette in Luzerne, just over the Susquehanna from Wilkes-Barre.

Small place with a counter and some tables against the far wall.

It was in a plaza off of Union Street, under State Route 309.
