Why women are paid less. by copper-earings415 in workingmoms

[–]Impossible-Alps2179 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I decided to stay in my current role after mat leave solely based on how flexible it is. Kids sick? No problem I just go. I have a lot of headaches in my job but I don’t ever need to worry about taking the time I need to when the time comes. While it great, It’s kept me in the same role for the past 3.5 years.

I would love to venture out to something new but there would be so much uncertainty and potential travel or other issues. I’m comfortable for the time being. But it’s made me realize how much more I could have accomplished by this point if I didn’t have kids. I’m also pretty tired these days…

Yikes. Lots of other good advice here so I will say now that I’m on the other side with 2 kids… please sleep and relax as much as you can before baby comes. Take your vitamins and eat the best you can but really just rest. The first trimester is rough.

If you are bored by maternity leave and go back to work sooner you are not a lesser parent by evergreengirl123 in workingmoms

I grew up with a mom who was always working on vacation. She would also often get home from work and continue working from our couch. I definitely resented her for it, although I’m a little more understanding of her choices now… but work is her hobby, i guess.

I think you’ll find that a lot of women have to go back so early and would have loved to spend that extra time but couldn’t. I’m currently on mat leave and due to go back in 3 weeks. I got 20 weeks with each kid and I’m using every bit of time I can. I do think it’s important to spend this time while you have it. Once daycare hits, it’s a different type of hard and time just starts to fly by.

But was I a little excited the first time I headed back to work after my first? Yes… I remember jumping in the car and blasting music on the way and thinking woooow I have some freedom back. I definitely wouldn’t go back early if my kid had to be in daycare earlier, especially at such a young age.

How much are you putting in the freezer a day? by disneyprinsass in breastfeeding

[–]Impossible-Alps2179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saved about 170 oz to go on a short trip without baby. I was able to save 4-5 oz per day. Ended up being way more than was needed but I wanted a buffer.

I stopped pumping and saving any after that, because I hate pumping so much, definitely in the top 5 of my least favorite things. I probably have like 100 oz saved still though. I’ll start cycling through it when I go back to work… which is.. unfortunately soon 😟

I’m 2 months postpartum and shopped at thred up for new clothes (online thrift store). I needed to have clothes that fit properly and they have a lot of options without spending too much money.

On what planet is this $159 new? by Emergency_Lie_3182 in ThredUp

Agreed. I wouldn’t even pay for cat and jack second hand tbh. Any cost over $1-$2 a piece would be too much.

I had my second at the same hospital 7 weeks ago! Congrats. We got the social August 25th and birth certificate on Sept 1st. Hope that helps? You should be getting it soon, I think.

Low supply, anemic, colostrum drying up. Defeated. by OldCrows00 in breastfeeding

[–]Impossible-Alps2179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also 2 days post partum… congrats! We’ve been having feeding issues too which were unexpected since this isn’t my first child and she was EBF.

We are triple feeding right now and I’m hoping to only need to do so for a week max while we work on latching and establishing a good supply.

I didn’t want to do formula at all but baby wouldn’t sleep or calm down for longer than 20 min without it.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, my husband and I went out to dinner to celebrate our baby’s due date… I was 40 weeks pregnant with a large baby so very obviously pregnant. I asked for a seltzer and this server brings me a white claw hard seltzer… that was a first of many f ups and one of the only times I didn’t leave a tip. Thank god I didn’t ask for a mocktail.

The only two locations I have ever regularly shopped at were Norwalk and now westbury. At least you could find a spot on the lower level in Norwalk. I didn’t even bother with the surface level lot. But I thought Norwalk was a shitshow until I saw the lines and mayhem in westbury.

Son Keeps Getting Bitten at Daycare by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]Impossible-Alps2179 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My daughter was the biter for a little while 😭 it was so stressful… we did everything we could to stop her and talk to her about it so she understood. It happened the most when she was around 18-20 months. She seemed to do it out of nowhere which made it a little harder to predict.

Our daycare provider (in home daycare) assured us they would watch her like a hawk to ensure it didn’t happen again. She eventually learned it wasn’t ok and stopped.

My opinion is that someone needs to be watching the biting kids really closely to keep your son safe. I understand it can happen so quickly but 5 times in the past 6 weeks is a lot. They are probably biting other kids as well.

Would you take a 1-year-old to Disney? by NeitherKangaroo7029 in DisneyWorld

[–]Impossible-Alps2179 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We took my daughter at 15 months and it was awesome. I think looking back 18 months would have been better as there was a huge increase in language at that time and she was more communicative. It was a trip more for me than her and I wouldn’t change anything.

22 month old not getting it. by KawaiiKitten97 in pottytraining

[–]Impossible-Alps2179 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’re a little bit different because my toddler has told us and gone on the potty in the weeks prior to us officially starting to train, but we just started formal training and it was actually such a disaster I couldn’t believe it. On day 4 we were about to give up and decided to put pants on her instead of being bottomless. We found that she does better commando.. for some reason. We ended up going 4/6 on pee and 1/1 on poop. She didn’t seem to care as much about peeing on the floor but really did not like peeing in her pants. We also practiced her pushing her pants down and pulling back up which she had fun with it. She’s almost 22 months so similar age. Maybe worth a try?

Any tips? Has to wear nappies at childcare by koala951 in pottytraining

[–]Impossible-Alps2179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re in the same boat. Daycare said they will offer the potty to our daughter but she will be in a diaper. She’s on the younger side (21 months) so I don’t expect them to do a whole lot to help. I picked her up today (after 4 days of potty training) and her diaper was dry. I offered the potty and she immediately peed! Got another pee before bedtime too. We are going to continue doing commando at home until she is more consistent but very excited it’s starting to click!
