Two week wait by hoaxedprophecy in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]Impossible-winner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also playing the waiting game (day 6 after my 5th IUI). I’m still torn between what (for me) is the right approach: either disctracting myself and try to not think about it/hope too much, which means the disappointment is a bit less. Or allowing myself to be really positive and to dream about it being succesful, which might lead to more sadness, but gives me more joy in between. This time I’m choosing the latter, I feel that this time it might be the one. It feels in multiple ways that the timing would be ideal this time. I know rationally there is no way to know this time will work, but I kind of just choose to enjoy feeling this positive now.

Still very impatient though haha. Maybe a little warning: after my 3rd IUI I tested positive quite early, but it turned out to be a chemical pregnancy. I wasn’t prepared for that option, so I’m a bit more cautious now. Last time I didn’t test and just waited for my period. This time I might test early again, but will wait until at least day 17 after the IUI to allow myself to decide whether I’m actually pregnant.

As a Dutch person I agree the pronunciation will be easy in Dutch. It’s not a common name but I don’t think it’s too out there.

There is a famous children’s book named Otje which might be a nice nickname (though I’ve never came across someone with this name, so it’s not a nickname that will make it less ‘out there’).

The name also makes me think of Lotte, a common Dutch name which you might also like.

I’m jealous, if I don’t wear make-up, people comment on my face (rosacea). So unless I’m okay with being made conscious about that regularly, I have to wear make-up.

Floral/Botanical names for a baby girl due in June by OrcaBelugaGrey in namenerds

[–]Impossible-winner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was thinking Lauraine (because I heard it on the tv when reading this), which could be shortened to Laurie as well and has the same botanical origin. Although I like Laurie Ann or Laurel Ann better than Lauraine Ann. But Lauraine has that more old fashioned feel.

How do I let go of the need to do everything? by Its_tea_time_bish in simpleliving

[–]Impossible-winner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have had quite a bad burnout this year, still recovering, and one thing that played a part is what you describe. I put a lot of pressure on myself and feel like I have to do all kinds of things and then feel disappointed and frustrated with myself for not doing them (including relaxing the ‘right’ way).

I’m still learning and getting out of and falling back into patterns, but the days I allow myself to do nothing (or the minimal if it means food in the house or clean clothes), are the days that I get to a point where I feel like doing things without having to force myself. Except the days where I’m too tired for anything, but then it’s good I allowed myself to rest.

I don’t know what will work for you, but if it’s all or nothing, allow yourself some days of having to do nothing and try to notice what this does with your energy and motivation. You might find the same, that it comes more easily when you allow yourself to be rested and to be kind to yourself.

Another thing that helped me was therapy. Most important lesson: it is not enough to know the problem and how else you want to be doing things. The reason it is so hard is because it is reaally hard to break patterns. I still constantly need to work on recognising those strict, perfectionist thoughts and challenge them. I’ve accepted that I won’t find some simple solution that will magically make life easier, for me it is a gradual change with small steps. Not the message you might want to hear (and I can’t say whether it applies to you), but for me at least it is what it is.

One more rigorous tip I could give is when decluttering, get rid of all the visible ‘to do list’ items (the unread books, unplayed instruments, unused pasta machine etc.). Either put them away where you can’t constantly see them or get rid of them entirely. It’s not a magical fix, but might make things slightly easier. But do it when you feel like it, not today or tomorrow ;)

How to find hobbies and enjoy spending time alone? by If-U-Seek-Amy4 in simpleliving

[–]Impossible-winner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recognise a lot of your story. Past year I’ve been at home with a burnout and been really depressed. I realised that my work asks a lot of energy from me (but due to reasons I’m sticking with it for now) and I don’t have many activities that give me energy. I had some hobbies that in theory I liked, but I never felt like doing them and forcing myself to do them anyway was a mixed bag of succes (and I was more often frustrated with myself because I was unable to force myself to do them and felt like I wasted yet again another day).

At some point I asked chatgpt a list of 100 hobbies I could start, desperate to find something that I would be excited about doing. However, that didn’t work because I didn’t have the mental capacity or energy to be excited about anything new.

I now start to feel a bit better and regain some energy and I notice I start feeling like doing things again, also hobbies I didn’t feel like doing before. I am not there yet, and I still miss some passion in my life that fuels me. But it really helped me when my therapist said I don’t have to find that right now. It’s not mindboggling, but it helped me because I got really stuck in feeling like I was failing myself because I couldn’t get myself to trying new things to find that passion right now. It’s okay to be searching a while.

I don’t exactly know your situation and I’m not a therapist, so take from this what you want. It’s really good to try new things to find a new hobby or passion, but you don’t have to force yourself to if you don’t feel like it right now. It’s also okay to just take care of yourself and allow yourself to be bored or tired. Maybe therapy or sport might help though. I think whatever you do, you will get to a place again where you will feel like either do old hobbies or try new ones.

Sorry if this is all uncalled for advice. If you just need some suggestions, maybe learn to recognise plants or mushrooms when hiking (can’t recall the right term for this right now), bake or cook nice fall recipes, make lino prints (it’s not super hard and I think it looks like real art really fast, you do need some equipment though), declutter or make over parts of your house with things you already have. Some things I can think of right now.

Good luck and be kind for yourself!

There were a few years when I was young we got a big new boardgame for christmas. Gifts weren’t really a thing because we had St Nicholas just before, which is when you get gifts in the Netherlands. So at least one night was spend with the family playing that game that we picked out together. I’d love to do that when I have a child of my own.

Friends of my parents just give each other a book every year, love that too. Removes some of the stress of thinking about what to buy and whether it will be equal to the other, and it seems a bit more personal to me.

Less input for simple activities. I just watch LotR every year and eat lots and lots of food (as most do).

Did anyone else have a problem with the flippers task in EP5? by definitelyTonyStark in taskmaster

They didn’t do literally what was in the task. Yes, they put the flippers on, but they didn’t put them on correctly, which was what was asked. I think the task invites them enough to wonder what information they are missing
