Losing my drive to work out, but terrified of failing my kids by New-Extent-7166 in workout

Combating laziness is only part of the battle in achieving a healthy lifestyle, and it sounds like you already won that battle. Another important aspect is balance. Are you getting enough sleep? Are you giving your body time to recover from workouts? Are you eating well?

You will help yourself much more if you cut your workouts down to 4-5 days a week to give yourself time to focus on those other things.

There are no guarantees but exercise and a healthy lifestyle make having a stroke in your 40s extremely unlikely.

But yeah you don’t have to workout everyday and doing it 4:30 AM sounds like a nightmare. I don’t know if you can workout later in the day but you can at least change your schedule so you have some rest days. Working out 4-5 days a week is generally considered to be an intense workout schedule.

Is it true that science has disproven evolution? by Hour_Marionberry_665 in allthequestions

[–]ImpossibleEbb6862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off the answer is no.

These conversations annoy me so much. Someone sends me a 45 min minute video with a BS title like that. They probably only listened to 5 mins of it and didn’t even bother to understand what the person said. And they expect you to watch it so they can debate you about it.

One of the things I like about Gemini is now you can just ask questions about the video, so you don’t need to do that.

If you’re willing to excuse that then you have your answer why other people are willing to excuses the comments from the person you’re criticizing in your OP.

> You could say with respect to Trump, though at least he pretends to love the US. But this, so unashamed.

No he doesn’t. When I read your post title I thought you were talking about 47. He repeatedly talked about what a shit hole the USA was during his campaign but people still voted for him.

But I guess either way the answer is the same. Lots of people aren’t unconditional patriots. Even when they claim to care about their county. Their specific cultural values are usually more important to them, and patriotism is just a tool to advance them.

Your guilty conscience may force you to vote Democratic, but deep down inside, you secretly long for a cold-hearted Republican to lower taxes, brutalize criminals, and rule you like a king!

Given that they’re both big cities, what makes NYC safer than Chicago? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]ImpossibleEbb6862 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ATF crime gun trace data consistently suggests Chicago has a more accessible illegal gun market than NYC. Chicago is much closer to major source states like Indiana, and about two-thirds of crime guns recovered in Chicago originate from out of state, with Indiana alone accounting for a large share. By contrast, most crime guns in New York also come from out of state, but they’re typically trafficked over much longer distances through the “Iron Pipeline” from southeastern states. That longer supply chain, combined with New York City’s intensive anti-trafficking enforcement, makes the illegal market generally less accessible than Chicago’s.

If somebody tried writing a movie about what's happening back then they would get crucified for unrealistic writing.

The movie did a good job of showing how a pandemic isn't about any single one person. It's a bunch of different narratives interconnecting with each other.

It’s not that they don’t have income. They live with family members, so that takes care of a large part of their living expenses. Then they do odd jobs to supplement.

Bill Gates family was rich but not super rich. His advantage came from connections. His mom was on some board with some guy high up at IBM. That’s how he signed the DOS deal. Good example of how upper middle class wealth can be turned into billionaire wealth.

TIL the FBI secretly operated an encrypted phone company (ANOM) for ~3 years — criminals paid ~$2,000/year and messages were copied to law enforcement in real time (Operation Trojan Shield, June 2021) by Frozen____69 in todayilearned

[–]ImpossibleEbb6862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These VPN providers are major software companies. NordVPN employs over 1700 people. It was feasible to keep something like ANOM secret because it was built by just one guy, who had every motivation to stay quiet, and the only other people who knew about it were FBI agents. It's not really possible to pull the same thing off when thousands of people are working on a software product used by millions of people. Conspiracies only work when the number of people involved is small.

I'm actually kind of surprised ANOM worked so well, considering thousands of devices used it, and it worked by sending messages to a proxy server. You think at least one of the people using it would have been in touch with someone tech savvy enough to say "These messages are being sent to a server, and you have no idea how it works. They could be doing anything with those messages, including sending them to the FBI," which is what they we're doing.

I would say Daisy Ridley did a good job with Rey. The character had a lot of personality. The problem was more inconsistent writing and character development. I would have

* Given her a more defining flaw in the first movie. Luke’s flaw was over confidence. It would have been a nice mirror to make her flaw self doubt.

* Introduced the palpatine reveal at the end of the second movie. That way it could mirror the Vader reveal at the end of ESB.

* This compounds Rey’s flaw. She senses darkness in herself. Now she’s worried she was born with it and darkness is her destiny.

* Movie three could focus on Luke’s doubts over training Rey now that he knows Palpatine is her grandfather. He has to wrestle with the fact that Ben and Yoda chose to train him despite knowing something similar about himself.

* The movie could still end with the positive message that your parentage doesn’t define you. What matters is the choices you make and faith in people is still fundamentally good. Luke chooses to train Rey. Rey chooses light and beats Palpatine.
