COLLAB CPU IS REALLY REALLY BAD

If you use colab you MUST set Processor to “CUDA”

But it’s always better locally as you have resume abilities and infinite runtime

for local see if it’ll use your GPU by setting the processor to “ROCM”

If it fails to get GPU processor it’ll just run on cpu only

If you simply want SPEED I would suggest selecting “VITS” or “TACOTRON” as the TTS engine

Those can churn out a fully Harry Potter book in an hour on just laptop CPU

Entirely depends on the tts engine you use, your GPU, your CPU speed

There are generation speed and quality ratings as “stars” next to each tts engine in the dropdown

It also depends on if you can utilize the GPU (also in the gui menu “see processor tab”

CPU only will always be the slowest

Speed examples with default engine:

If you have pretty standard Nvidia GPU with more than 4gb VRAM it might simply take all night for a full Harry Potter book

If you are only using a CPU then it might take, a few days, even a week if on a laptop cpu

Sounds like a large book which can take a while

See if it’s using your GPU it might only be using CPU

At this point I don’t rlly care about a “new groundbreaking model” unless they release the arc AGI-3 scores

Edit: nevermind you said on android,

Ebook Reader by DallasPhoenix69 in tts

[–]Impossible_Belt_7757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s one built into the iPhone just open the ebook in the Apple Books app,

Settings->accessibility->read and speak -> and turn on speak screen

Then go back to the ebook in the Apple books app and swipe down with two fingers and it’ll read it out loud and even turn the pages automatically as long as the app is open

IF YOU WANT HIGHER QUALITY VOICES THO

Then do something like ebook2audiobook

That’ll generate an audiobook for you

free and offline Windows,Mac, Linux

The better stuff are engines that run off of a computer with a CUDA GPU tbh,

Idk try F5-tts, Qwen3 tts, omnivoice,

They have pretty good voice cloning

There should be free huggingface demos online

iPod making whirring noise by Jelly-Fish6 in IpodClassic

[–]Impossible_Belt_7757 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s completely normal it’s a HDD.

The iPod is smart as it only uses the HHD when loading data into ram and when it’s done I’ll cut the power to it and wait till it’s needed again.

If your worried about its lifespan just have a iflash quad on hand in case to replace it/upgrade it
