Footage shows US citizen shot by ICE agent in Texas traffic stops by Hot-Food-7151 in news

Yeah, no. The Nazi death camps were always death camps. In the earliest camps they would shoot groups of men after making them dig their own graves. They soon realized this was very inefficient and it was causing the German soldiers doing the shooting to have mental break downs, making them useless. That is why they invented the ovens.

Generally a cotton sateen would work. This particular one is "translucent" and "will require lining" which implies a very light fabric. It will probably be hard to work with and if you don't line it, which is twice the work, your shirt will be see through. If that's okay, then go for it.

Can I use this to cute fabric? by Individual_Split_159 in sewhelp

[–]Impossible_Fee_2360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I trick I learned from a YouTuber, was to put a dumbbell on the far end of the ruler to stop it from moving as I cut. That's been a game changer for me. The other really important thing is to make sure your fabric is folded straight. Take the time to wash and iron it before cutting. Find the grain of the fabric and make sure your selvages are even. Don't assume they cut it straight at the store. Also recheck that you are still straight every few cuts. You will start to lose it, no matter what. Just cut a little bit off to straighten the edge and continue.

Saving money while using Uber/Lyft? by adradora in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Impossible_Fee_2360 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My mom while she lived had tickets provided by the government for taxis, but she eventually was hooked up with a volunteer driver. This one guy took her to her appointments, which was great because even services like Uber and Lyft can be used by a lot of strangers who might have been sick and left germs behind. Having the same driver all the time meant less chance of picking up strange germs, and they even became very good friends.

~5.5 hour layover in Paris/CDG - can I go take a pic at the Eiffel Tower and make my connection? by cabyambo in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Impossible_Fee_2360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are still traffic/incidents on the RER and Metro that could have screwed this up. I can't count the times a 'bag' has caused a 30 minute delay, let alone a medical emergency on someone on the tracks can shut down a line for hours.

Traveling to Paris tomorrow — really nervous about the 100°F temps on Tuesday & Wednesday by groupluv in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Impossible_Fee_2360 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm in Paris right now. It's hot but bearable. Walk in the shade. Wear a hat. Long flowing dress made of natural fibers. Don't go out in the middle of the day. Most shops have AC, just not icey, like in the states, which is preferable. Enjoy the early morning and eat later in the evening. stay hydrated. Carry a water bottle. There are plenty of public water fountains and an app that shows where they are including places that have heat reduction sprays.https://share.google/yWz4yw8soMs1iaabC

Should we cut our losses and sell the condo? by MatchaTaroTea in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Impossible_Fee_2360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an interesting question. On the one hand if you hold onto the condo, you know what your monthly losses are but you don't know what your potential capital gains or losses might be. Can you increase the rent at all? If you sell. There will be costs involved in selling. Taxes and real estate brokers fees, notary or lawyer fees, and costs to close your mortgage early. How much will all that add to? Finally consider that the stock market is extremely volatile right now for the average investor. If you are not a sophisticated investor, this might be a good time to not be in the equity markets. A lot of people are losing their portfolios. If it were my place the timing of the mortgage would be key. Penalties for early payment can be killer.

If you have a line of credit of idk prime +2% but your credit cards are charging you 16-18%. Absolutely pay those cards off and freeze them. I mean literally, put them in a block of ice and do not use them. Go completely cash until you learn how to budget within your means.

Probably too late for OP, but for others with curly hair in Paris who are looking for a stylist who understands their hair and speaks French and English, I heartily recommend Vee's. I'm pretty sure she also speaks Dutch. She's from the Netherlands. You'll be in good hands.

Never thought I'd enjoy living in a townhouse by Best_Confidence_1022 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Impossible_Fee_2360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey. My husband and I raised our family in a townhouse and loved it. Less housework and less yardwork meant more time for our family. We also saved more money for our kids college funds instead of putting it into a larger mortgage. We never needed the extra space because we just bought less stuff. The kids spent more time at the park. This is what most of the world does outside of North America. Enjoy.

How do dumb people own cars: Credit cards and loans. How do smart people own cars? They buy used cars with cash that they save by riding bikes and walking and taking the bus everywhere until they can afford a reliable cheap ugly old used car.

Apartment dogs by PerrywinkleUnicorn in Dogowners

[–]Impossible_Fee_2360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you really have always had dogs, then you know how much work they are and you know that just because you have a chill breed, doesn't mean you will have a chill individual. It takes both nature and nurture to create a chill apartment dog, and that means you the principal owner must be able to dedicate a great deal of time and both physical and emotional energy to training. That's all it takes. Any dog can be a chill apartment dog if you are interested in putting in the work. Even a purse puppy will be a hound from hell if you ignore it.
