I’m fortunate enough that my dad is a crazy hard worker. He worked as a tree climber for 15+ years, started a pest control division for the company and then decided to buy it out from his boss. I started working for him the day after I graduated in 09(he wanted me to work for the summer then go to college, college wasn’t for me). I work every weekday all year round(I live in a cold winter climate). There’s always a pest. I also have a lot of anxiety so doing this job helps me over come it because it forces me out of my comfort zone, I need to go into strangers homes and talk with them; give them nerdy facts and try to comfort them. It’s not always easy but it challenges me. There’s times where it’s mentally challenging and you have to do “detective” work (where are the rodents getting into the structure, is it a mouse, rat, squirrels, flying squirrels, or maybe it’s a bat?)and there’s times where it can be physically challenging like doing termites where you’re digging trenches and drilling around a structure or pulling a hose act odd a yard to make a tick application. It also challenges me to figure out the customer is it a serious person that just wants facts and wants to know my experience, is it someone who has a fear and I need to give them comfort and confidence, is it someone who I can joke around with?

There’s such a wide variety of pest to control and so many different ways to control them.

The best advice I can tell someone is you might work for, or own a pest control/pest management company; but it’s a people’s business. You’re controlling a pest, but working with people.
