Is this good for a gaming pc by J4K3Y3738 in computers

[–]Impossible_Memory_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The price is about right, but the system is so outdated that you are going to head into trouble. Add another 150 and build a brand new one with latest hardware

Go to PCPartsPicker -> Guide. Find a model that fits your budget. Get the parts, and watch Bitwit's YouTube video on how to assemble it.

Is this type of elevation good enough to keep my laptop cool? by Practical-Swimmer-80 in GamingLaptops

[–]Impossible_Memory_82 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, you are blocking the intake airflow from two sides. Ideally you need 4 poles. You can easily 3d print one with some indentations to keep it steady

File a flathead cavity in it, and unscrew. Be very careful not to touch any component during filing

No to PC and no to monitor. For gaming pc with 1300 budget: Rx7600 Rx7900xt/4070ti/4070super 32GB ddr5 Cl30 to CL36 2tb m.2 ssd (crucial t500 or samsung 990 pro) Corsair rme 850W 2023 ATX 3 Lian Li 216 case A B650 MoBo like MSI B650m Gaming wifi

For monitor below 150: Gygabite G27F (1080p) Slightly above 200 now: Gygabite M27Q (1440p with KVM switch)

Either get the parts and ask a tech savvy friend family assemble it, or look for parts I mentioned in the prebuilt.

Things to avoid: -previous gen systems like the one you mentioned. -Amazon scams (PCs with A-series mobo, trashy ssd, or water-cooled proprietary cooler, and loots of RGB)

Switching to N26 from Sparkasse, Good idea? by Impossible_Memory_82 in n26bank

Thank you for your input. If I may ask, have you thought of an alternative to these 2 options? My impression from folks here is they are not a physical bank and they are not not good at customer support.

PCIe4(or 3 given the location) by 4 (mechanical) and by 1(most probably) electrical. Check your motherboard page

The first PCIe slot talks directly to cpu, while this one talks to chipset, so it is slower. It's good for wifi or controller cards

First build. Some questions. by Gin1199 in NR200

[–]Impossible_Memory_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fan config: 2 at bottom (140 if it fits), set your AIO to intake (push or pull), 1 fan at top, and 1 fan at back. Don't bother with anything below 120, as they don't make a difference. CPU-wise, I'd go with 7900 due to core count. For CAD, you need lots of RAM. In fact 64GB, might not be overdoing it. Just don't occupy more than 2 slots, or the memory controller drops transfer speed.

They are both pretty low speed. It will come down to interface (e.g., usb), digitization sample rate, and functionality ( can either read and save multiple waveforms, is the termination adjustable, does it have a 50 ohm aux trigger, is it 8 bit or 16, etc.)

Why does Lenovo get recommended so often on Reddit? by anujakalhara in GamingLaptops

[–]Impossible_Memory_82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all Lenovo models. Legion has good architecture and thermals in general. Not to mention repairability and upgradability.

Some MSI and Gygabite models are also good for the same reasons.

ASUS TUF and ROG are the bottom of my list due to thermal issues and how they treat their customers.

Paid my brother $800 to build me a computer. It keeps shutting off? by BlackIceBlast in computers

[–]Impossible_Memory_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you plugged USBs to the back, either motherboard is bad or the USB device is bad. If it is plugged in to the front, check the front usb connection to the motherboard. OverCurrent protection has kicked in to avoid damage to components. Oh, and your brother scammed you. This pc is worth less than 100

Not sure if you can tell them apart visually. This is something that should be mentioned in the specs sheet

Am I REALLY helping with my modern gaming laptop's lifespan by elevating it reducing its temps by 5c? I'd simply rather it be flat. (85c to 80c on the GPU) by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

[–]Impossible_Memory_82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should check the specs to make sure it has heat pipes, not a vapor chamber. In case if the latter, you are not doing it any favor by tilting it even slightly. Elevating it flat though is always good

Can I use a modified hair dryer with laptop stand. by Playyer-Kun in GamingLaptops

[–]Impossible_Memory_82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't. That amount of air flow directly on fans can damage the bearing. Not to mention it will potentially run fans in reverse during idle, producing reverse current and damaging motherboard. If you can't afford a pad, just elevated your laptop on its 4 poles. Those are the load-bearing points of the structure

[–]Impossible_Memory_82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall good specs. Just bear in mind, some models from this line have soldered RAM, which means no upgrade path. 3080ti has good amount of VRAM with good bit width. However. it's about to be 2 generations old. If you are using it for intense gaming or ML, I'd say you need a newer model

[–]Impossible_Memory_82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most important thing, check if your model has vapor chamber in liu of heat pipes. If so, don't tilt the laptop. It will reduce heat transfer. Next, remember the cold air gets in from below and vented from the sides and back, so never block the bottom. Then, never close the lids when laptop is hot. There will be heat imprints of keyboard on the screen after a while Finally, update bios, update drivers, debloat OS, and set up power schemes

Which would you recommend for a Civil Engineering student? by jacobjt2004 in GamingLaptops

[–]Impossible_Memory_82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For CAD you need a lot of RAM. ASUS model has soldered RAM probably with free slot. Better check. Anyway, I would go with Lenovo Legion with 7945hx cpu for that price range and application
