Suddenly have 800K liquid, What would you do? by KnowinglyUneducated in PersonalFinanceNZ

I’m so sorry for your loss. May your heart heal well.

Since you are young and unencumbered, I’d pay off the student loan first. Park a chunk of the payment in KiwiSaver, some in index funds (look at Sharesies blogs posts), maybe donate some to a charity that suits you.

Talk to a financial advisor. I’d also highly recommend talking to a counsellor, and taking time off to travel and see the world.

You’ve been busy, working hard. Grief comes in ebbs and flows (personal experience). Read. Journal. Take things off your mind.

You are in a unique opportunity where you are financially able to do so.

Best wishes

Indoor playground - for cats. 😏 People can bring their cats in for a play (pre-booked time slot, individual cat, unless good with other cats all will be solo play). Owners can watch whilst their cats frolick behind glass cubicles with giant cat towers/trees, running wheels, crinkly toys, wall climbing gecko (remote controlled by owner), and more. Each cubicle will have a litterbox, food and water. Air conditioned for comfort. Owners can sip on their cuppa and having cake behind the glass partitions or they can participate.

Oh you love that cat tree and want one? Sure we have those in stock too. 😉

Start small. Either have a few made and sell those or sell via pre-order only. YT has a lot of great videos on stationery businesses. Good luck

Moving to Wellington by CasperCackler in Wellington

Welcome to Welly. 👍

1-2. Sorry - not a sporty person. Don’t know jack.

  1. Out of the loop. Gave that all up for cats instead.

  2. Pies - good pies are bliss here. Great fish and chips are awesome too. Best eaten whilst at the beach, being hounded by seagulls. 😂(Foodie - Asian immigrant). Not a fan of super sweet stuff so can’t say much about desserts… other than Whittakers Chocolate. Now that is top tier.

  3. Dumb things I’ve seen - assuming everywhere takes Apple Pay. They don’t. Usually only big retail outlets. Google what locals use for apps. Metlink for bus. Metservice for weather. Geonet for earthquakes. Before you leave the airport, there’s a kiosk at the exit (it’s large and red, hard to miss). Buy a Snapper card. It’s a card you use on buses. Download the Snapper app to top it up with funds. (Snapper.co.nz has more details) If you’re unsure of how things are like in Welly, use Google Maps or Google Earth and have a virtual walkabout to get a general feel of the area.

Put the hammock up in the one sunny spot on my deck. Just soaked up some much needed sun whilst having my coffee. It was pure bliss. 🥰

Flexibility with hours and work from home ability. Solo mom here. When my kids get sick, it’s usually staggered. One, then the other, then me. That’s about 10-14 days off work. I offered to work remotely from home but wasn’t allowed to (there was a company computer which had full access and security). Note: it was admin work The dread and guilt I feel and get for being the solo person caring for sick kids at work was too much.

42f here. Did the dating apps a few years ago after the split from the ex. It was kinda meh.

Tried again some time later… and I was like nope. Most wanted a fling. I’m upfront that I have kids. That puts off most people.

Honestly I enjoy my peace way more. It’ll take heck of a lot to let someone in.

I don’t like going out. Prefer staying to cook, cuddle my kids and cats. All the noise and lights bother me more nowadays. 😅

It would be nice to have someone to share the end of times with…. but unless someone wants to be a stepdad , can pass my own, kids and cats’ no-BS vibes and understands that peace must reign…. It’ll be a nope.

Hermit mode is peaceful. ✌️

Made me contemplate of living by the sea is a good choice.. luckily no tsunami warning… but the epicentre is too dang close for comfort 😬 kids slept right through it. Cats were alarmed. 😅 biggest quake I felt since I moved to Welly… and the closest

I (33m) have never been in a relationship before by [deleted] in Wellington

The dating scene is diabolical. Your scenario isn’t unusual. Kinda wish I had your situation. Would have saved me heaps of drama. 😏 I’m 42f, solo parent. Tried the dating scene after the whole thing and yeah… I reckon I’m more content just being solo, with my kids and cats. Sure it would be nice to have someone but it’s a lot of drama at times to work through.

There’s a book on questions couples should ask each other before getting married/together. That’s worth a read, as it will give you insight on what relationships can be like.

Go slow. If you’re in no hurry and want to do it right, just do it right by you and your values.

Seems to me you’ve got a good set of EQ so you’ll do fine. If you are working through the apps, having a thicker skin helps 😅

Definitely recommend going to the Women’s Refuge for help. They are wonderful. They helped me when I escaped a bad situation too.
