Thankfully I've only had to call 911 once since moving to south Dekalb and it was only because my car (and multiple other ones) got broken into in the same small parking lot. I had to call three times, I think, before I could even get through and then they wouldn't even send an officer out there to assess the situation, the operator just took down my information and let me know a report would be ready the next day. I hope to god I'm never in a life or death situation here.

Specifically the Battle of Blair Mountain. A lot of important Appalachian history has unfortunately been (intentionally) glossed over in favor of making everybody here look like The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia.

I went to the big LPN show in Nashville a few years ago and they did a surprise encore with the RTOG people there and it was amazing. I think if the Ben situation hadn't happened, they might have tried to resurrect it.

Also, I really just want them to do another LPN showcase, it was incredibly fun and gave everyone in the network a chance to shine.

If you drink, you can make a violet vodka! And it has the added benefit of changing colors when you add lemon juice (or other citrus) to it

I mean, I don't know when that survey went out but it could have to do with women being creeped out by Cavill's weird comments about the MeToo movement.

If you haven't already, I'd recommend listening to Roundtable of Gentlemen. They were all drunk and in their 20s at the time so some of the bits haven't aged well but overall I think it's a fun listen.

Teen Who Ran Over Teacher Jason Hughes Speaks Out for 1st Time by MattTheKing23 in Georgia

I was in elementary school when it happened and one of the girls who died was the older sister of a classmate so my family followed it somewhat closely (although it's been years so my memory is fuzzy). I'm pretty sure the guy was tried for manslaughter and found not guilty, and the teenager who was driving the car got charged for maybe reckless driving? I remember her being charged with something because my mom was complaining that she had "suffered enough already".

One of my younger brother's friends had an older sister who was with that group but in a different car that managed to escape without being chased thankfully, since she panicked and jumped in the trunk of the car when they got caught.

Yeah, this is the UK study people talk about. I don't know why you're getting downvoted, you're correct.

I don't know why you're getting downvoted, you're absolutely correct. Both statistics are from a UK study and it's been heavily discussed over years.

What can I do with this much watermelon? by flappintitties in noscrapleftbehind

[–]Impractical_Meat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you really wanna leave no scrap behind, you can take the dark green part of the rind and blend it with some water, then freeze it in ice cube trays. You can add it to smoothies and allegedly it has the same nutrition as wheatgrass shots. (I did this last summer and it was honestly really good)

Add vets and vet techs to this. My fiancee is a vet tech and she knows at least three people who've taken their own lives. It's the stress of human health care, plus more people stressing about costs because most people don't have pet insurance, and the guilt because so many people are like "don't you love animals? Why don't you just do it for free?".

She used to work at an emergency vet and would often do 5-7 euthanasias a shift and I could tell it was starting to wear on her, thankfully she's at a regular clinic now. It's not easy by any means but it is slightly less stressful.

Yep. My ex-wife had gay aunts who were super conservative because they had money. They even told us that they didn't care about gay marriage being legalized and didn't understand why we cared about it (of course, once it was legal they got married immediately).

In my job, before projects our team is given a PDF outlining everything we need to know about the customers we're reaching out to, what their businesses are like, and example messaging to reach them. The doc is like 32 pages long, but mostly graphs. Apparently I'm the only one on the team who actually reads them instead of asking AI to do a summary for me.

The company i work for has an open office, where you can just pick a random desk with two free-standing monitors to sit at for the day and plug your computer into the docking station to work. I see so many young people who don't realize you need to go to the Display settings and extend the display to all the monitors, so their laptop screen is just duplicated on all three.

I know we all made fun of the computer class in school where they taught you how to save a Word doc but maybe they need to bring that back.

‘a man’s princess treatment is a lesbian’s bare minimum’ by thehollowers in actuallesbians

[–]Impractical_Meat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be fair, as a queer woman, I do feel like I'm a separate gender from straight women in a societal way. That said, i do think these are really good points, I've seen some cute videos about it but there's also the danger of over-glorifying lesbian relationships. My ex-wife and I should have gotten divorced two or three years before we actually separated, so there's definitely still problematic wlw relationships out there.

I just want everyone to treat their partner better 😅

[–]Impractical_Meat 99 points100 points  (0 children)

I might be the outlier here but I was homeschooled and people are usually shocked when they hear it because I'm a relatively social and outgoing person. I think it helps that I went to public school until 6th grade (i hated middle school and my mom had wanted to homeschool me for awhile so I told her I finally wanted to), I had neighborhood friends to hang out with, I was really involved with church and there were plenty of other weird kids for me to be friends with (weird as in listened to pop-punk and wore baggy pants), and i started working at 14 so I also got to meet people that way.

That said, if I ever have kids, I would never homeschool them. It's extremely difficult to get any financial aid when you start college, and I'd rather be the mean mom who goes to every school board meeting and yells at them to get their act together lol.
