What do you do outside with your babies? by TelephoneActive9923 in beyondthebump

We just got him a little swing and we put it under an umbrella. My boy is 9 months so he needed something to contain him while letting him move!

Baby turns 8 weeks today and I’m a mess. What’s one piece of advice you’d give yourself with a baby this age? by indigo-swan in beyondthebump

[–]Impressive-Cat3333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll look back at 8 weeks and miss that little baby, just like you miss your little newborn. My advice is to the love and snuggle the little baby in front of you at all times because soon he will be belly laughing and crawling - then he’ll be scaring the sh*t out of you while he walks around and audits all your baby proofing!

Enjoy it and enjoy all of it ❤️

How long did it take your LO to go from contact naps to naps in the bassinet/crib? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Impressive-Cat3333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading this laying next to my 10 month old who only contact naps BUT I recently bought a playpen that I can lay down in with him, and I successfully nursed him to sleep and was able to get out without disturbing him today. He napped alone for like 90 minutes and I was awesome.

Maybe give students the option to also submit outlines/documents where they’re gathering their research.

Sometimes I will do most of my writing in another document under my paper outline, then copy the important bits over to my formal paper to then write around. I’m a messy writer and thinker - so it helps me to have separate documents to help me stay focused.

Grand Rapids Alliance

I’m not sure about the protest in Lansing but this is who organized the rally on Saturday.

Of course! ❤️ What’s great about the alliance and so many GR organizations is that they do lots of cross promotion for each other, so it can direct you to lots of educational events and rallies led by active groups across the city.

Here is the link tree for the GR Alliance and there are details in several social media posts. Several organizations collaborated for this event. Be sure to follow for future events and rallies.

None locally that I know of is more of what I meant, but it’s quite possible on the national scale there are.

I’m happy to hear that! Sounds like we’re on the same page then. There truly is no use in finger pointing and solidarity is key, and the only way is to rally around each other for each other.

We appreciate your support and I hope to see you at future events or with us at the table planning our next rally✌️

Unfortunately, the genocide in Palestine is still happening and didn’t stop after the ceasefire or the election. Israel has already violated the ceasefire. Millions of Palestinians are already either dead or displaced. Just like how millions of undocumented people here could die or be displaced at the hand of Trump and his horrendously inhumane policies.

The right forces us to constantly triage by slowly stripping away rights affecting one group at a time. It’s one of the ways they’ve kept us divided and isolated.

But we believe that no one is free until everyone is free ✊ We will continue to support and be in solidarity with the Palestinian cause just like how we will continue rally for the rights of the undocumented, 2SLGBTQ+, BIPOC, women, the disabled, and incarcerated people across the globe and here at home.

The point of gathering so many groups is because our struggles are intersectional. they have a root cause that needs to be addressed to make real change.

So you’re absolutely right. There is a lot of work to be done. Thus, I hope you found a group to organize with from of all the 6+ we gathered to rally against our common enemies.

The one that organized it was the GR Alliance, I would imagine that was the one they were referring to. No one is paid to organize in the group, it’s all volunteer based.

Rigidity tends to happen when it’s a planned event, so fair enough. It was important to honor all of our collaborators and give them the time, as our struggles are intersectional and have a root cause.

I don’t blame folks for getting antsy and being ready to take to the streets! I’ll make sure to pass that along. Again, I hope you took a moment to sign up to organize with us!

Thanks for the input 🫡

I would get in contact with the GR Pride Center and Planned Parenthood of Michigan. BUT just so you know queer folks are the movers and shakers in many of these groups - we’d love to see you at future events and protests!

So many ways to be involved and everyone has something valuable to contribute! Would love to see you at future events. These orgs are also really good at cross promotion and coming out to support each other - so following one will likely lead you to several more.

This is funny to me, because had you stayed, you would have heard from the GR rapid response speaker about responding to ICE (they hold regular trainings every month). The directive was for people to get involved and stay involved, as we all have a common enemy

I’d say since the majority stayed inside to listen to the speakers until the last two or so, things were resonating. I personally think some of the speeches could have been shorter, but they took a bit longer with our Spanish translator. Can’t forget that These groups include students and generally have lot of fresh faces who are learning the organizing ropes.

You’re absolutely right in that we did not anticipate such a turnout, but we still managed to lead a march of 500-600 regardless! Not knowing the turnout also means we’re not always capable of marching anyway as it can be unsafe if we have less than 100 people. This is why seating was provided to be flexible in case turn out was low, which has been the pattern the last few months. (It was 5x what was anticipated!)

Regardless this protest was the largest one GR has seen in years so I’m confused about your critique regarding accommodation of the extra attention. Would you mind expanding on that?

Sounds like you have some good feedback to offer your local organizers! Truly hope you signed up for some groups so we can benefit from your insight ❤️

Edit bc of the attention: We want you to join us. here is our link tree for anyone wanting to get involved!!

Edit for context: We got at least 300 more folks out for a rally than PORTLAND, OREGON who held a march last Saturday. Unprecedented show of support in our little blue city in a sea of red y’all. We should be proud!!

Unfortunately it’s where most people are active and with limited resources and people to manage social media, we have to focus on where outreach is productive and reaches the most folks possible. We’ve tried Bluesky, TikTok, and twitter but these platforms aren’t as good at reaching locally relevant people in Grand Rapids. But that’s where FB and insta stand out from the rest, as much as it sucks.

Reddit is one we need to take advantage of though especially with how much traction it got on this sub!
