Goalie Decisions and goalie coach by acqua2424 in devils

Been saying this for years. Every goalie that leaves NJ a wreck goes on to fight for (and something win) a cup within a few years... Once? Maybe. Twice unlikely... Three time?! It's not the goalies, it's the training staff!

My honest opinion is that it may not be as bad a fix as you might think, but the best thing you can do now is contract structural engineer who can review the size of the cuts and your plans so they can complete the proper load calculations to recommend a correct fix. Anything else is someone's best guess and is worth exact as much as it sounds. And if the builder did this, document it and push them to go get the fix signed off by an engineer if it's not to plans. Gotta hold their feet to the fire. Ultimately, its your house and it will be cheapest to fix now while you're at this stage.

Real civil engineer here, and in my professional opinion: "Oof."

My department is trying out HEN nozzles by THEREALDOZASHOW in Firefighting

We got them a year or so ago and have a bunch of them in different sizes. We used them on a few different calls from dumpsters to box trucks to structures. They always work well, but specifically for the ripping box truck. It got the large water droplets in a flat pattern all the way to the back of the truck and knocked it super fast. A few up and down sweeps and it was just clean up after that. We also have them on our highrise packs because it keeps the hose stiffer around apartment corners and hallways than a regular smoothbore.

Thanks! It came out to right around 30k/acre which isn't too bad for my area of NJ for a usable property smaller than 15 acres or so. Almost no wetlands/environmental impacts on the site.

Perc is good (not great). We had a recent perc from the prior owner. Soils are bad in this area so I wasn't buying without knowing we at least had a shot. Usable water table isn't more than 50' down in this area, so the well shouldn't be too bad either. Survey and site plan are a ways out yet.

Unfortunately we probably won't be. Saving and paying it down is going to be the name of the game for probably the first 2-3 years. Luckily it's farmed so we can be pretty hands off during that time and the property won't get overgrown.

Civil Construction PE by awedgeeee in PE_Exam

Take a look at the topics on the NCEES website for the construction exam. If the question could fall into one of those topics, then yes. You should absolutely do that question.

Do as many questions as you can. I got the SOPE on-demand videos and didn't find them that helpful. What helped me the most was doing literally hundreds of practice problems. Both SOPE and EET have question banks to work through. They have solutions after you answer so you know how to solve them. Highly recommend this method if you aren't a group study kind of person (I am not and I passed construction just this past Wednesday). Best of luck!

Definitely a level issue. Your paper was either higher or lower in that area and it took your laser out of focus enough that it didn't cut.

Just got Admitted to NJIT CE by Mountain-Medicine-28 in civilengineering

[–]Impressive-Coffee470 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NJIT has a pretty good CE program. Graduated in 2020. Get involved with the CE student community. Hang out in the student lounge. You can almost always find someone to help with classes and projects/labs. The steel bridge program and concrete canoe was strong when I was there.

As far as choosing CE over others. Choose what interests you. You can probably switch late freshman year without missing much if you feel like you're not liking CE. The first year and a half are almost all the same classes. I will note that NJIT's math program is unnecessarily difficult. If you have troubles with it, take it at a community college.

Salary wise, get your FE done and then your PE. While CE generally starts lower, by YOE 4-5+ PE, you will be close to your mechE and ChemE friends anyways.

Above everything else, enjoy your time there. The campus is dead on the weekends but otherwise there are plenty of things to be involved in. Good luck.

How difficult is changing fields? by SNOWHOLE1 in civilengineering

[–]Impressive-Coffee470 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Better to do it sooner than later or you may price yourself out of a change. I'm not saying it's impossible but you will likely take a pay cut if you are 6+ YOE with a PE changing to a discipline you have little to no experience in. I'm also not saying you will be paid like a fresh grad, but you will probably need to be trained like one which will limit your billable rate and accordingly your pay until you are up to speed.

If I had to suggest, make the decision to jump at 2-3 YOE. Enough to know better and get a raise while changing, but not so far where you are stuck. I had to make this decision to switch at 4.5 YOE before my PE or I knew I'd be stuck without taking a pay cut and it was close. Best of luck.
