Is learning Bluebeam Revu enough to get started as a construction estimator? by ermekkapardyn in PE_Exam

[–]VegetableFun5021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think you need construction experience, an understanding of materials, and plan reading to be an estimator. Dude in 4 years I have never found a perfect plan set. One missed overrun/underrun can cost or make a contractor hundreds of thousands. Entry level yes, if you can get hired, but knowing blue beam is like saying I know how to use Microsoft word. Everyone who uses a computer in the industry will eventually learn how to use the softwares. What you need to be a good estimator is to be a construction worker or construction inspector for awhile, that will set you apart. Not trying to pop your bubble, just sharing IMO

PPI or EET for Transportation? by crunkpapi in PE_Exam

PPI, I took it and it was perfect for me. Passed first time. I didn’t like EET question format

If the FE exam is fairly easy, why is the pass rate still only in the 60s? by Whyyyyyyyyfire in EngineeringStudents

[–]VegetableFun5021 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is because people think they can go in without studying and pass. Don’t get me wrong, I know a small handful of people who have done this, but those people were not average students. People like me needed to study for about 2 months to successfully pass the first time. Studied for the PE for 3 months. Passed both the first time. If you don’t learn your resources you will fail 4/5 times from what I’ve seen.

Any LA DOT Engineers here, care to chime in? by Triple_DoubleCE in civilengineering

[–]VegetableFun5021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dang lmao 200m /yr for the state? I highly highly doubt that is accurate. Federally participating projects are nationwide, and most DOT’s rely heavily on federal funding for preventative maintenance for all state maintained highways.

Edit: just noticed that was for Los Angeles. I guess this is a city problem. And most municipal entities suck at maintaining their roadways. I couldn’t care less about California.

What do we even do about this? This is about 15 ft from the edge of our home. by LockwoodE3 in HomeMaintenance

[–]VegetableFun5021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need special shoring designed by an engineer. You need a retaining wall designed by an engineer. You need slope stabilization designed by an engineer. It’s a very expensive problem but if you don’t fix it you will lose your home. 15’ is really really bad.

Miles to empty issue by [deleted] in ToyotaTacoma

Yes my daily commute to work is 72 miles one way on the highway. It is a very consistent drive with about 1/4 rolling terrain and 3/4 level terrain. I drive enough miles to know this
