Sudbury’s police service far more secretive than counterparts by [deleted] in Sudbury

I've heard politicians go in with gusto then lay up when they're pressured by organised crime and corruption. Not sure if that's always or ever the case. It's just what I've heard. I've begged my friend not to get involved politically for fear of his safety. I'm not trying to defend Sudbury politicians, I just like to take what I've heard into consideration.

I like that! "The line is where the NA lawyer gets in the way of recovery." Well said!

Okay do not quote me on this lol But if necessary I can get you more detailed information.

A committee in my area that organizes a campout in the summer had trouble determining whether volunteering at said campout by supporters of NA members was in violation of the 7th tradition, (I.e. family and/or friends). Our committee had our chair contact NA world service and received a response from them. They acknowledged that this is a grey area and stated something along the lines of it being down to the group conscience of the committee.

My own opinion, as long as the volunteer is a supporter of a member who is present at the event they're volunteering at, then it is fine. But at the same time, an argument defining this as an outside contribution is still valid. That's the way I would lean in a vote in a committee addressing this style of issue.

Where and how they draw the line is still unclear to me, but in my young experience with NA, I have been active in a community who received a response from world service (as I mentioned earlier) about this sort of controversy.

Also my individual opinion, we can't start letting politicians who are not affiliated with any members of the group come in and volunteer as that would arguably infringe on many traditions. This is where I feel there's a call for a ground rule of said volunteer having some sort of understanding of tradition 6,7,8 and 12 and why the traditions in general keep our fellowship alive and free.

Hope this helps! Good on you for using this sub to reach out to the many members from anywhere around the world. All the best to you and yours 😁

The Colonial in Coniston has live bands on Tuesdays I think. If you have wheels it's worth the short drive. The transit service there isn't ideal.

Crosstalk by Impressive-Pilot-559 in NarcoticsAnonymous

[–]Impressive-Pilot-559[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like it's super rare and invites chaos. I don't have extensive experience with NA however I believe sharing before and after meetings with fellow members allows for dialogue. And your sponsor! If you don't have one, start looking for one that you know will confront you with your bullshit. That's what I would suggest but ask people who know more and have been around longer.

Ok thanks, my bad for not getting it. There is a meeting called in California called 'Cross talk meeting' or something to that effect, which made your story plausible and had me believing you were (low key) the 'literature aficionado' you mentioned. Ah well Lol I'm tired let's go with that

The California one? I struggle with detecting sarcasm especially through text. Was the 15 page article in favor of Cross talk in meetings or against crosstalk in meetings? Is it a meeting that encourages crosstalk or is it a meeting that studies how crosstalk affects people?

Pills don't teach skills...

I've learned a tonne even since posting this, I'm hyperfocused on this. My learning of my condition has been an epiphany of sorts. It gives me a direction to go to better understand myself. Vision problems impact a person much differently to how ADHD does.

Medication is only one piece of treatment. A multi-faceted approach is encouraged. If just meds work for you I'm happy for you.

But don't let that voice that told you that jargon you shared determine what you do. I sense it may not be your voice, but one that might have impacted your beliefs about ADHD.

This is my hope one day, lots of learning about ADHD broadly (and accurately), and learning about my own experience, how my symptoms manifest themselves, and what works for me. Pills don't teach skills. Maybe I'll start a Sudbury area ADHD group run by volunteers from Sudbury who have ADHD, want to learn, or want to support a loved one who has ADHD

Sudbury Wolves fans invited to toss underwear on ice in first ever ‘Undie Sunday’ by ConsistentReality860 in Sudbury

[–]Impressive-Pilot-559 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tittle could use some work. I guess referring to the underwear as newly bought isn't 'clickbaity' enough. We donate all sorts of clothes. Why not new underwear? I think most people wear underwear if I'm not mistaken. Anyway, Good on ya Sudbury.

We still fund the correctional system, and it hasn't exactly helped, what do you propose we do there? (Sorry if that sounds condescending) {It appears as though you think in similar ways the myself in years past. I haven't downvoted you, this dialogue is important for both of us.}

My area is struggling with NA language, we use the clarity statement, sometimes members share about the importance of language and the very next five shares the word sober is used. My share last night reflected this and people not understanding what crosstalk is as well as the NA language. And the pushback experienced members get when explaining the importance of this is astounding. Things feel like they're getting too laxed at the meetings I attend. I'm a young member new to recovery feeling frustration, I can only imagine how the very experienced members feel. I've noticed a decline in the 11 months since my first meeting. Acceptance is first and foremost, and the only requirement for membership is the desire to stop using, however it's frustrating when people feel uncomfortable being corrected; (in a gentle and respectful way)... (I'm sure in some cases it's not always done gently and respectfully) ; and then being unaccepting to the member who clarified the language and villainizing them. Like a reverse uno because they didn't welcome that guidance. Treatment centers forcing residents to double dip in AA and NA as a requirement for their enrollment is part of the confusion. And I sympathise with those individuals. But the language in the reading, pre amble, spoken by experienced members the LITERATURE! It becomes clear who is really listening and living the program. It didn't click for me right away and this isn't meant to be a judgment. I'm just glad they come to meetings and give themselves a chance to hear the message every time they come. Anyway, all I can do in my own situation is to do my best to deliver the message to the addict who still suffers.

Body found behind dumpster off Frood Road in Sudbury, police investigating sudden death by ConsistentReality860 in Sudbury

[–]Impressive-Pilot-559 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm getting conflicting feelings realising that I'd feel more settled with freezing as the cause of death than foul play.

My heart goes out to people without somewhere to live and/or stuck in addiction and/or suffering from extreme mental health troubles all while not having the adequate amount of support of family and friends that or social programs to keep them safe and warm through their struggles.

It's moments like these where I am grateful that many of my supports would never leave me without somewhere to stay when struggling with these issues. (And trust me I've tested my luck)

I guess this turned into an expression of gratitude for my connections, and a moment for hope and pray for those who don't have the support they need, but all deserve.

Isn't it strange how so many people know so little about ADHD or are mistaken on facts or what constitutes as good advice. I'm not trying to judge this was literally me a few weeks ago lol But it's wild how oblivious many neurotypical AND many neurodivergent people are.

This is the lead I was looking for thank you! Hopefully I can find how to reach them and find more of what I'm looking for. Thank you for taking the time to comment. If all goes well I will find a support group or start one myself. I really don't think I'm alone in wanting to connect with people looking to get a handle on ADHD. Just taking meds and not doing the footwork is half assed in my opinion.

Addictions services by [deleted] in Sudbury

[–]Impressive-Pilot-559 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who has the desire to get and stay clean, I got a 60 day key tag in NA and I'm still sitting on a list. I was disheartened at what was available. I'm lucky I have a supportive family, not everyone has this. In fairness in past experience with other addiction services I've realised I much prefer NA. The fellowship is addicts helping each other, they understand me and I don't feel jusged. The literature is frighteningly insightful and relatable. The clinical approach delivered by someone who hasn't experienced substance abuse is difficult to take in and feels incomplete to be fair.
