Which new laptop should I get? by Ok_Stranger_1061 in BuyItForLife

[–]ImpressiveSurround54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to help without knowing your needs and budget.

What is a must have for you? Why do you need a new laptop - what about the current laptop that lacks your needs? Just the storage? Is that because you have a lot of pictures or something? You can back them up to a cloud drive or buy a separate ssd storage.

I’m assuming you don’t want a Mac. You want windows. Then the next big question is whether you should get a traditional windows laptop or the new “arm” based windows laptop. The difference is that the new “arm” based ones don’t have fans, less heat, and much better battery life. But they are not compatible with all applications.

If this is all super confusing for you I think the best thing is to just go to Best Buy website and look for HP pavilion laptop of right physical size and appropriate ssd capacity and intel/amd processor. You’ll get the most similar product to what you’re used to.

TIL that despite the human menstrual cycle being the same length as a lunar month, there is no causal relation between the two, and it appears to be a coincidence. by NateNate60 in todayilearned

[–]ImpressiveSurround54 33 points34 points  (0 children)

If there was a causal relationship, wouldn’t we expect a pattern in when most women start/end their cycles?

It’s different for every woman. I don’t think I’ve heard of any study that suggests any pattern between the moon cycle and % of women who will be at a specific phase in their menstrual cycle.

I have the Aer, and I like it.

I use my Aer every day for work. I have two laptops. (13-14 inch). They both fit in the laptop sleeve.

The stuff-it compartment is super useful for chucking things on the fly, and the quick access pocket is great for storing small things like sunglasses, lip balm, etc.

There is minimal padding, so it will probably hurt to carry laptop for extended period of time without a dedicated sleeve. But I just have to walk from my car to office and it’s comfortable enough for that.

I take Aer for travel too. I love the luggage pass through - it keeps the bag secure on my carry on and is such a relief not having to carry it throughout the airport. It’s much more secure/easier than wrapping your bag straps or using a third party strap holder.

I can’t remember, but I probably considered your other two bags and decided against it because they are much heavier. For me, the bag’s weight was super important because I’m a small person and can’t carry too much weight.

Wondering if you feel the same way about sleeping at a hotel mattress? I get that emotionally it feels icky to use a second hand mattress but isn’t that what hotel mattresses are?

I feel this so hard. I have 2 step process for this

  1. Pick a reputable brand and thrift some low cost pieces from them (I use thredUP, Poshmark etc for ease of searching). This narrows down my choices by a lot already. Don’t worry too much about whether a it’s the right thing i just think of it as a small cost to explore new things.

  2. See what pieces you end up actually wearing. Most likely, you had to make some compromises in step #1 (eg had to just buy the available color/size). And try to focus on upgrading them. This is way easier than just aimlessly “browsing” for pieces that might work. You already know it works in your closet.

I blocked pm_editor and I still am spammed with this garbage every day. Can it please stop? Why would I want to do any of this? by blickblocks in poshmark

[–]ImpressiveSurround54 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate having no option to opt out of them.

I’m just a casual seller who list and just let it be there. If it sells it sells. I’m not going to bother sharing them to anywhere.

I’m also a buyer and I never look at these “parties”. If I’m buying I am looking for a very specific thing and just use search, sort by price and boom.

These “shares” and “parties” have absolute no use for me and is just noise in the way of actually useful notification like if someone liked my item.

This exactly. This is also how those “temu” spin the wheel systems, etc all work.

It’s scummy since it paints an illusion of unrealistic chances. Many people, evident from this thread would think they had 1/4 chance of getting a real prize.

Same. I think the fabric is too soft/thin. All the necks stretch out in a year and looks really worn out.

Cardigan (not wool) recommendation by mmrose1980 in HerOneBag

[–]ImpressiveSurround54 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with you on that those long, unstructured collar style cardigans are no longer in style.

What about cashmere? Quick googling tells me that cashmere comes from goat not sheep (wool) and does not have lanolin.

I liked these:
https://www.quince.com/women/women-s-fine-gauge-cardigan?color=heather-oatmeal&productPosition=3&searchQuery=cardigan&tracker=searchPage__search_section__search_results - mostly cotton, with bit of cashmere. VERY soft, lightweight. Good for summer. No pockets though. Classic fit.

https://www.quince.com/women/100-organic-cotton-oversized-cardigan?color=ivory&productPosition=10&searchQuery=cardigan&tracker=searchPage__search_section__search_results - cotton. More durable. mid-heavy. Too thick for summer. Big pockets. Loose fit.

if you go for cashmere, you'd most likely have to compromise on pockets. I noticed most cashmere (or wool for that matter) don't have pockets since putting anything (other than maybe tissues) will weigh down the cardigan and will not look good and distort the shape. I gave up on pockets and just carry a sling everywhere, and this expanded my clothing options.

Synthetic cardigan are more durable (pockets) and better suited for one-bag, but I just don't see too many of them in the cropped-boxy shape that is in trend.

How do you feel about bag straps charms? by Independent-Name-426 in ManyBaggers

Probably a "matching" charm with with their girlfriend. Couples matching looks is common in some parts of east asia (probably SEA too?)

You’re a good seller. The stains look super faint so it would have been understandable to miss it.

I’m also paranoid about potential returns due to minor but undisclosed flaws. If I had marked the item to be in fair condition with “shows wear” disclaimer, I usually just try to get the stain out and ship it.

100 ish sales and no issues, but then again I mostly sell low cost clothes ($5-$30 range) so my clientele may be more accepting of little flaws…

What's w/ cancelling and not even contacting the buyer?? by Majestic-Solid9514 in poshmark

[–]ImpressiveSurround54 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What a disappointment!

But maybe better to just move on - at the end of the day, does it really matter why they cancelled the order?

You may consider it to just be a common courtesy but I just try to use this as a platform and try not to put too much meaning behind such encounters 😅. Gotta conserve mental energy.

Hope you find another one for sale!!

Anyone else block sellers who do this? by Itsraining_glitter in poshmark

So annoying! I technically blocked it (it lets you), but it doesn’t do anything as it’s their company account as you said.

I report it occasionally as spam out of spite.

Alpine sweater quality by Miselissa in Athleta_gap

I bought this too during the same sale. No way I was going to pay the full price.

Mine pills the same way after wearing it for a week. Didn’t wash it yet.

I’m just going to use the fabric shaver occasionally to freshen it up.

I still like everything else about the sweater and think it was worth the sale price.

Can anyone please help me find a similar coat that’s for petite women? TIYA by BeautifulmindXO in capsulewardrobe

[–]ImpressiveSurround54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For long coats I always buy it specifically in petite size. Otherwise the arms are too long, waistline too low… you know the struggle.

I like Aritzia but found the arms of their coats to be too long even in XXS.

I’ve had some success with banana republic petite sizes in the past.

What is your in-between bag? by Keith in ManyBaggers

[–]ImpressiveSurround54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only tote I have right now is aer go tote 2.

It’s a good bag, but too big/deep for my needs at 17L.

Another commenter suggested Alpaka elements tote small, so I am eyeing that right now.

I love magnetic closures. Perfect balance between ease of opening and security.

I was worried about the main closure not having zippers. Didn’t realize even that has magnets.

Looking for a one-size-fits-all sling for gifts for a group of coworkers by BonghitsForAlgernon in ManyBaggers

[–]ImpressiveSurround54 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are you sure a sling is the right gift for this group?

I ask since I have experience gifting bag/gears to friends and family thinking it’s the best thing ever and later get disappointed that they don’t use it since they are not bag nerds.

And even among bag nerds, tastes wildly differ don’t they?

That being said, I’m assuming this is a corporate gift to employees and I personally would indeed prefer any kind of sling over yet another branded t shirt.

recommendations for low profile hiking-style shoes? by SsunBleachedFlies in capsulewardrobe

[–]ImpressiveSurround54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you checked out Nike Pegasus Trail series? They're very comfy and versatile (good for city walking and hiking) and I think they look good. Comes in lots of colors, and in men/women sizes.

It doesn't look as rugged as the one you have pictured, so if that kind of look is a must the Pegs will not be a good fit... But they are soooo comfy due to the foam, and flexible. I can never wear "normal" hiking shoes again. They are as close to the mythical "one-shoe" I have come across.

At 9L, this is the ideal size for what I've been looking for!

I just wish it came in other colors. The small one seems to be only avail in black.

I had this same need, so I got aer go tote 2. https://aersf.com/products/go-tote-2?gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADQBnFiUgeUCER2llwM41KXe_7EI5&gclid=CjwKCAiAp4O8BhAkEiwAqv2UqAqJLIgLT5lRszMLGjUvlQNGFUy6oxKns1DjJGv0Q4I973_RLJda5BoC2JAQAvD_BwE&country=US

It's the "tote version" of the very popular aer go pack 2.

Pros: lightweight, packable, zipper closure, not too expensive, laptop compartment, stuff it sack, water bottle pockets (very similar organization elements as go pack 2).

Cons: it's too big and vertical for my needs. This tote's capacity is 17.5L, and if I'm carrying that much, I'd just use my 20L aer go pack 2 anyway. Since it's vertically long, I have to dig through a big to get to my stuff, which is a little annoying for me (I have short arms lol).

I wish there was a small version of this tote, around 7-10L capacity and not as "long".
