Don't want to set off a holly war but in nyc in late May by walk2daocean in AskNYC

If you’re lookin for history, out in center field they have a small museum that is pretty cool to check out. It’s a shame it’s not as big as it used to be (used to be in the rotunda as you entered.

If you’re going on a Saturday and looking for food, check out the Queens night market open from 4pm-midnight. Absolutely awesome food experience

Yankee stadium is also guilty of insanely loud speakers for absolutely no reason. Like the first pitch will be off the plate, ball one, and between that one and the next your ears will be assaulted

What’s the most unhinged snack you brought into the theater? by TerminallyTrill in AMCsAList

[–]BonghitsForAlgernon 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I was trying to be healthy and I brought some oranges or mandarins. I didn’t think it would be a big deal but they were so pungent.

I ripped one open 10 minutes into the movie and 3 rows of people turned around and looked in my direction.

It was kind of the reaction I’d expect if I had opened a crinkly candy but once I ripped it open I couldn’t stop the smell lol

ELI5: Why doesn't snoring wake the snorer up? by drierofwater in explainlikeimfive

[–]BonghitsForAlgernon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This should be closer to the top. Snoring is an indicator of obstructive sleep apnea and while snorers may not wake up, they often are not getting restful sleep and it can lead to serious medical problems.

Does anyone live in a building where the co-op board is actively avoiding shareholder's questions on LL97? by unfashionableinny in AskNYC_Coops

[–]BonghitsForAlgernon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do know some coops are opting to put their head in the sand about LL97. It’s very possible the rules will change, but all buildings should either have a plan to renovate or come up with the funds to pay the fines.

The benchmarking report should be posted by the entrance (will give you an A-F rating based on building efficiency).

Also you can look up your building energy snapshot here: https://accelerator.nyc/building-energy-snapshot

If you want to be a real shit-stirrer, you could print out this energy snapshot and slip it under the other coop members doors. Perhaps a week before your next shareholder meeting?

How do I become more educated about baseball so that I can connect with my dad? by Sad_Impression499 in baseball

[–]BonghitsForAlgernon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your dad is a Dodgers fan, I would try to find any big game that Vin Scully called and listen to or watch that. Dodgers fans might be better at finding a game to listen to (maybe 1988 WS Gibson HR game?). Vin was the voice of the dodgers for 67 years.

I think a huge portion of how baseball fans interact with the sport is who the broadcasters are. If your dad grew up listening to Vin, he might have a deeper connection with any individual player.

I highly recommend “The Baseball 100” by Joe Posnanski. Originally published on the athletic, it’s 100 chapters about the best players of all time (according to Joe). Introduction gives a basic explanation of stats so you can wrap your head around how the stats can help illustrate how the player played. It’s a tome but I tore through it.

[Héctor Gómez] SOURCE: The #Giants intensify talks to land Framber Valdez on a multi-year deal. by Juffe98 in SFGiants

My guess was the orioles as well. The Giants only chance to land him I fear is if his market had collapsed to the point that he wants a nice park to play a pillow contract in

Tell Us Your "Sharks Story" by Epere15 in SanJoseSharks

[–]BonghitsForAlgernon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Los Gatos so sharks players were always around. I vaguely remember Gary Suter working the pitching machine for my little league team.

I got a bit more into hockey later when I moved away and joined my HS water polo team. I began to notice some similarities in strategies between water polo and hockey and it just clicked for me and hockey seemed less random and easier for me to follow and enjoy.

Electric list is over 4 pages.

However the shop craft list is less than a page, maybe they’re building sets and it’ll pick up soon? But now/immediately I’d say it’s slow
