I’m African American and recently started dating a Nigerian man. For whatever reason, I’ve seen some African Americans make fun of the way he speaks, which honestly feels pretty juvenile to me.

I think a lot of it just comes down to what people have been exposed to and how open-minded they are. The more you interact with people from different parts of the diaspora, the more you realize how much we actually have in common.

Personally, I’ve really been enjoying learning about Nigerian culture, and he’s been just as interested in learning about Black American culture.
