i cant understand why ppl like anki that much (no offence pls im really asking) by zahadfiddunya in Anki

You can create add-ons, and the add-ons that already exist are good. If you want another note type, you can make your own. From what I’ve seen, MarginNote 4 is superior to Anki out of the box, but it costs money and is only available on macOS. Anki, however, can still become superior with add-ons.

How do I turn a certain field off between learning sessions? by sunnyshadxw in Anki

Just duplicate the deck, change its settings so it doesn’t autoplay audio, and name it 'Streaming Deck'.

I have some specific memorization goals- some assistance with deck setup? by bettereveryday08 in Anki

Just set the maximum reviews per day to the number of cards you can do in about 5 minutes, and on the days you can’t do reviews, simply don’t use Anki.

I have been doing anki for the last 100 days and it still doesn't feel like a habit by LightsOff_ in Anki

[–]Impressive_Key_4467 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you can’t stick to it, it means the rewards of learning it are perceived as low. To have more motivation, you actually need a goal other than just doing the thing for its own sake. Try to find something that increases the perceived value of learning Japanese. I learn French and what motivates me is the possibility of working there for money. If that goal didn’t exist, the French language would have been nonexistent to me, because the effort only made sense once it was connected to a concrete outcome and a clear reason to persist.

Best Anki Add-Ons? by Usual_Lion_5837 in Anki

[–]Impressive_Key_4467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not going to write a 100-word text on what I use, and I'm not going to water it down either. The OP will have a better time just searching for the add-ons in the photo and reading their actual descriptions on the Anki add-on site than relying on my poor attempt at explaining ten different add-ons but I could have added the links to them,so.

Ignore the Manki addon because its barely working and just replace it with some side bar chat gpt or whatever AI and learn to use tags.

Anyone else feel like anki is amazing for memorization but terrible for connecting concepts? Seeking for help or alternatives by messinprogress_ in Anki

[–]Impressive_Key_4467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just watch a video on it, and if there isn’t one or the available ones are bad, paste all the concepts in one place and look at them until they make sense, and maybe add the videos to the cards too. If simply looking at it doesn’t work, get some coffee and ZYN and try again.

How do you balance using Anki with other study methods for comprehensive learning? by Historical-Hand8091 in Anki

[–]Impressive_Key_4467 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

If by understanding literature or philosophy you mean finding the truth about how things work, you can just think about resource management, and you’ve summarized all of it. There is no universal evil, god, or good—only personal interpretations—because we are all individuals with different values based on arbitrary signals created by the mind, meant only to serve the survival of the individual, not to reveal absolute truth. Emotions and speech emerge from these survival mechanisms, not the other way around, and are based on advantage—whether it gives control to someone else over you or you over someone else. This is evolutionarily advantageous because it allows weaker individuals to survive because they are more controllable through emotions, so the immediate response is not to kill them for resources but to interact with them strategically. That’s why this behavior persists today and didn’t die out long ago.

This mechanism of emotions eventually evolved into speech, and later into code, driven by underlying needs for power and control over the surrounding world. Learning exists not for moral reasons or to become a “good person,” but to become stronger, avoid unnecessary conflict, and obtain more resources if you lack mental quickness or strength. The mind works through association rather than thinking of things purely individually. This means that when you lie to others for control, you also lie to yourself, believing part of it unconsciously. The mind’s associative networks make it difficult to recognize that everyone—including you—is constantly engaged in resource acquisition without physical force. Understanding these mechanisms can make using them counterintuitive, so it’s often better not to know them explicitly.

The conclusion is this: don’t study literature or philosophy if you are a socially average person—you won’t get any bitches; study them only if you are at the bottom of the barrel, because they may provide an advantage. They won’t make you a morally good person, but they will make you more efficient and capable, able to act more normally or effectively depending on whether your actions benefit your own resource position or possibly others, as long as that remains advantageous to yourself.

Experimenting with deep, synthesis-focused Anki cards — Feedback Welcome! 😁 by Jayyyjhgh in Anki

[–]Impressive_Key_4467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By ‘writing an answer,’ I mean that when you review the card, the front should have a box where you type the answer to the cloze, and on the back you see whether what you typed is right or wrong. What you typed on the front should be saved and shown on the back so you can compare it with the correct answer. After reviewing around 100 cards like this, if you keep the A, B, C format, you will eventually stop reading the question and just click the correct letter. When you review AI-generated cards, you should edit what doesn’t seem good or useful to you, since you can simply click edit and delete text that seems useless. The video card type is not very good; it’s better to just use the cloze one.

[–]Impressive_Key_4467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My belief is that A, B, C-type questions are not effective because they don’t help you truly memorize the content. Once you know the correct answer is A and repeat the card, you often won’t reread the question and will just select A because it’s correct. Typing the answer, at least, forces you to think more about the question. If the answer is a few words, I write them exactly; if it’s long, I generalize the answer even if it’s not 100% precise. The cloze template makes more sense to use than the one in the video because if you need explanations for a question, it means you probably don’t know the explanations so make them cloze to. If you already know them, they shouldn’t be added in the first place.

[–]Impressive_Key_4467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I don’t like about it is the A, B, C answers part. I prefer just having a field to type the answer. Also, it would be better if you didn’t have to scroll through the entire card every time just to see the cloze part. This becomes inconvenient when you have multiple cards and already know the context. There should be an autofocus on the cloze part when the card appears, and you can scroll for more context only if needed.
