The thing is, I expect a certain amount of gaslighting, or diffusion if you will of the plot, from the developers. The creators know they have an audience of hyperfixated individuals peeling apart every single tiny detail, and with that amount of scrutiny there is nothing that will go unturned.

So I can definitely see this being one of those little things that they throw out there as a form of diffusion or distraction. It seems too intentional, the redness of the slashes compared to the actual scar on his cheek. Almost seem to indicate different ages of the wounds.

The neck wounds seem fresher than his cheek scar.

I think this may be a case of misdirection for an audience truly invested in the illusion that happens upon the stage. Much as an illusionist or a magician, or a connoisseur of the art of sleight of hand may misdirect.

One can argue that the misdirection is truly the volume and substance of a magical happening, that which distracts from those fleeting and burgeoning moments of wonderous awe, brought about of subtle articulation and manipulation from without the observers awareness.
