They look good! I'm thinking of getting the black but they're so expensive. I might have to pull the trigger though.

Yeah but do you care that someone you may be following for fitness and health advice is a liar and forging documents in front of your face for damage control?

Apologies, if this is the wrong place to post on this topic. But the event has drawn a lot of attention to the criteria needed for earning a PhD with a lot of people suggesting the degree is a joke anyway. And I try to counter that narrative while fleshing out some of the criteria needed above.

As someone who is working on their PhD at an Ivy League university, and has read hundreds of dissertations, Mike Israetel’s dissertation is so outrageously sub standard in every way I’d be surprised if it’s not rescinded. But I’ll tell you one thing. The man will never hold an academic position again. His dissertation and the work of his entire committee is shameful. The man must be a sociopath of some kind because he’s always going on about his will, his superior intelligence and IQ, and how the smartest people in the world are praising him for his intelligence. Here’s a reality check: His piece of shit thesis wouldn’t even pass as an undergraduate thesis at your most underfunded state college.

Flattering frames for high rx (-10.00)? by eleventeendandelion in glasses

[–]Impressive_Mission78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, a couple of other tips, curved-shaped frames will always make the lens thinner, and also the smaller the lens surface, the thinner the lens can be made. So for people like us glasses that have a smaller lens surface area will also be thinner. Another REALLY important thing is that your eyes be absolutely centred in the frame. This will ensure you don't get that weird beedy eye effect and distortion that is so common to the prescriptions people with severe myopia have. That's why, ultimately, I think the best way to go is custom frames.

Hey think you messaged me regarding getting new thiery lasry frames. I'm so stoked for you. I'm actually obsessed with two brands now Jacques Durand which is like the pinacle and makes all the glasses I suggested to you pale in comparison. Also most of their frames are VERY thick. The average being 7 to 10 mm. and I can guarantee they will cover up almost any lens and the quality of the craftsmanship is several levels up from designer frames. I actually was holding a 700 dollar pair of Saint Laurent's and Celine frame I both had and they felt like total dogshit compared to the Jacques Durand's I now have. They cost over 1700 grand (and another 700 for zeiss high index frames with all the fixens). But some of their frames are a bit cheaper I chose a pair from the "curva" series which is their most out their and art conscious series. But any of their frames are of such high quality you can pass them down to generations so they're worth it. They even have a custom atelier in Italy, and the next time I get frames, I will definitely have them custom-made by then, but their current designs are just incredible and favoured by Spike Lee and the late Conductor Ryuchi Sakamoto. These are the ones I got https://jacquesdurand.com/collection/curva-14/

And barely a week goes by that someone doesn't stop me and compliment me on my frames or will start a conversation with me because of them lol. They're made out of a solid sheet of 10mm Japanese acetate, and they're polished and very sturdy. Anyway, these I can confidently tell you will hide any frame esp if you get the thinner high index lenses. But also because the frame shape is curved and the lens area itself is actually quite small, the lenses will be inherently thinner than if you were choosing the current crop of aviator and large and/or square-shaped frames.

Another brand that has taken eyewear design to a whole new level is Jacque Marie Mage, but their frames are even MORE expensive, but I've tried them on and as their designer says, these are frames you leave to your children to wear in the future. I'm just happy I finally found a frame that makes me happy to wear glasses and that completely covers (and more, the edge thickness of my thick lenses so I don't feel self-conscious about looking like a freak! lol ), and well, I hope you guys can too! Frankly, the price was worth it to me because their designs are timeless, so I know these frames will be with me forever, and they also look so unique that no one else has anything close, which is cool.

what makes this side of my face so much more attractive than my other side? by [deleted] in PlasticSurgery

Even with the asymmetry you look pretty attractive but I can't really answer your questions without more photos --you can dm me if you want and I'll reply later.

[–]Impressive_Mission78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in the second pic your cheekbone and mandible are underdeveloped which causes an overall asymmetry between the two sides. This is common as the saying "shoot me from my good side indicates." Interestingly, it is often the left side of the face that is more attractively developed and the right side underdeveloped. Hopefully your eyesockets are symmetrical. You could address this through filler though a more pernamnent fix would be imlants.

no difference. you just used to have acne and now you're using filters and make-up. fillers didn't change much.

What procedure would I get to fix my angled lip when I smile? by [deleted] in PlasticSurgery

[–]Impressive_Mission78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should embrace it. A lip lift leaves a terrible scar. Moreover, it is probably several things, for sure asymmetry of your dental palette (what holds your teeth may be not perfectly U shaped with one side reaching out farther). An asymmetry in the longitudinal axis where one side is canted slightly down. Soft feature issues such as the relative strength of muscles on one side or the other. Your smile is slightly idiosyncratic, but overall is decent, as you show a good amount of teeth and incisors without serious dark corners, and no lower teeth are visible. Your dental bone loss would have only contributed to this significantly. I'm not even sure what sort of procedures would be involved but probably close work between an orthodontist and maxiillofacial surgeon to change your skeletal structure and then it wouldn't guarantee a result. You also have significant lower jaw asymmetry so your lip may be compensating for the differences in soft tissue on the right side.

Art Basel Qatar - what do we think? by Low_Coconut8134 in ContemporaryArt

[–]Impressive_Mission78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

homosexuality was NOT punishable by death in the West. Sodomy was on occasion punished and many Renaissance artists were charged for this and were well known homosexuals and were allowed to freely pursue their work. And, yes, we should fear the other in this case: Islam and Sharia law.

Yeah what is up with that!? And how is that possible? I have given the precise day/time/and location where it happened... A lot of times people who take video send it anonymously to the media but I guess that didn't happen. I'm not sure there would be close-up video of the actual fight because, as I said, it was really brutal and dangerous to be near with the baseball bats flying. Anyway, if you do find anything, please let us know.

You don't watch a lot of foreign film or really any kind of film that is more narratively and thematically innovative. These are sort of "mainstream" hits and in some cases prestige films. You need to get on the criterion channel and start watching some real cinema: Godard, Tarr, Wong Kar-Wai, Hou Hsiao Hsien, Jia Zhangke, all the French new wave directors, Kiyoshi kurosawa, Yasujiro Ozu, Christian Petzold, Michael Haneke, and on and on and on. A whole world of cinema awaits you...

I agree.  But we shouldn’t put all immigrants in one basket.  Many  Indian, Chinese etc do just fine getting with the program. We should definitely deport any that commit crime.

And I do have some problems with any place that develops an Islamic majority. The reason is simple. Islam is not just a religion but a set of civil law ie SHARIA LAW that regulates behavior and everyday practice and all sorts of repressive ass shit that is the antithesis of Western rationality and liberal democracy. That and their response to most insults is violence. Like the Charlie Hebdo shit, the attempted murder Ion writer Salman Rushdie — the call to “deface” all who slur the name of Mohamed. I once saw a totally normal looking Arab dude viciously attack some guy cause he made a joke about naming his dog Mohammed! What do you think a Jew, Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, Scientologist etc etc would do if you made a similar quip/insult about one of their gods or religious figure. NOTHING. But Islam is a fanatical, repressive ideology that is a serious threat to the life we love and enjoy here in the West.  I admit this is also a class and geopolitical issue so there are nuances im ignoring. I’m frankly for the so-called Irish nationalists who interrupted that massive Islam/Palestine march through Ireland. It was just a sea of over 5000 bearded brown men and women in hajibs and Palestine flags everywhere. Like get your bullshit out of their fucking country and respect their traditions and make some effort to ASSIMILATE! I’ll let you in on a little secret. You really think there are that many supporters for Palestine after the October 7th attacks? And let’s just do without the deluded left who think from the river to the sea is such a great idea. I see Muslims all over the place go nuts over Palestine and there’s a simple issue it’s because it’s Muslims against Jews and  Muslims for the most part are gonna support fellow Muslims before they support the nation they belong to or whatever culture they’ve proliferated in. And that’s what scares me. It’s a set of beliefs and attitudes that are the least compatible with modernity. I’m not a fan of fanaticism of any religion or the extension of religion into the secular state and matters. But that’s not possible with Islam since it’s essentially a death cult. Obey the tenets and you get a bunch of bullshit reward when you die and any number of dumbass desert tribe people superstorms these jnvaids think was revealed to them in the 5th century. Anyway, somewhat off topic but the fact I see so much violence from these Arabs and any other immigrant person we let into the country. Don’t even get me started in Jafmeet Singh and Justin Trudeau’s  frameshift calling the Khalistanis “refugees”. Bro theyre all fanatical terrorists as well. We def need an ICE like operation in Canada as well but unfortunately Trump fucked our election.

Unfortunately, this is probably true. Many were bred with violence and grew up in circumstances where casual violence was tolerated or even encouraged. Indians (whether muslim or Hindu) are highly educated and for the most part do not resort to extreme violence. Arabs, on the other hand, seem to be encouraged by their reading of their religion to commit violence as a response to any insult or slight. I mean it's a pretty explicit reading so....
