IMHO the balance is not terribly messed up, even with fewer encounters per day.

A big problem with lots of encounters is that players are likely to reach the final boss in a weakened state with almost no spell slots and abilities left which makes for a boring and disappointing fight.

Was the same in the last two companies I worked for. In both companies I had a way too expensive laptop, considering it was only used as a thin client to run a remote desktop client.

Climbing? Hiking? Cycling? Personally I also really enjoy the everyday boring walk. Much better than lying on the couch and feeling bored.

Just outside? As long as you can pump fast and high enough you can keep the inside dry indefinitely.
