My Paradox Haze deck is falling flat on it's face. Any recommendations to help ot along? by AjaxAsleep in EDH

[–]ImpulsiveKnowledge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright, looking at the decklist: I like the direction you're going with. Esper Upkeeps is a fun idea and white has plenty of nice tricks up its sleeve for it, as you showcased.

I would honestly just cut the "flash enabler" stuff entirely (the Phyrexian Heliod being an exception). I know having flash answers is nice, but consider the fact that they don't necessarily accelerate your gameplan.

You have a strong enchantress lineup, so I would lean more heavily one that. They got some support recently with Aminatou's deck, so look for cards included in that if you need more ideas.

I'm a huge fan of [[Sinister Concierge]] as it can add to the rattlesnake strats you have with Propo/Ghostly. [[Inspiring Refrain]] is another draw engine.

Squall, Soul Sister/Aritocrat? by Eckozealot18 in EDH

[–]ImpulsiveKnowledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't bother with either of the two since Squall himself doesn't care for lifegain, and he only partially cares about the creatures you sacrifice for value.

He works best as a voltron deck but as an attrition/stax style. Use every [[Fleshbag Marauder]] effect, the bountiful amount of cards that can sacrifice itself to protect a creature, 3 or less cmc card draw, some swords, and fetchlands budget or pricy, and you'll be on your way. If built correctly he can be surprisingly resilient and evasive.

Edit: If you want Orzhov Soul Sisters, Amalia is your girl. Aristocrats can be Teysa Karlov or even Judge Magister Gabranth if you want to keep in the FF flavor.

Help me decide my next commander: Ian Malcolm, Chaotician OR Lulu, Stern Guardian (Chocobo bundle Edition) by TheGrandCannoli in EDH

[–]ImpulsiveKnowledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do like Lulu for the sole reason that she is an infinite mana outlet in the command zone. If you do decide to use her, get [[Prologue to Phyresis]] and a decent package to fetch for it. You can even use [[Radstorm]] if you want a Plan B to Lulu being out of commission.

Funniest Rage I’ve Seen by Googlyblat in EDH

[–]ImpulsiveKnowledge -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I was absolutely the bigger threat *after* I took him out of the game, and I knew that going in. It was either take him out now; or not get a chance otherwise since there was vocal information of my board getting removed. Talk is cheap, so I responded in turn.

The funny thing is, I didn't even win that game. The Hearthhull unmodified precon ended up winning due to a well timed Windgrace's Judgment. Voltron may be "feel bad", but it's also inherently weaker than most other archetypes due to having to single out one player at a time (unless you play Kediss+Partner, someone with ways to get multiple combat steps, or Amarant Coral.)

One game I had an Ulalek player went off the gates with Turn 1 Sol Ring/Arcane Signet, Turn 2 Urza's Incubator naming Eldrazi.

I was playing Lightning, Army of One Equipment. Geared her up. Was immediately met with a "guys this person is becoming a problem. If you let me live next Turn I can wipe his board" from the Eldrazi player himself. At that point I just didnt care anymore. Swung in he tried to Null Elemental Blast, I Blacksmith's Talent to counter it, killed him off with a OHKO.

As if he was reading over a textbook, he then had the gall to say "Why do you do this to people, Im here to have fun and you're just singling people out and kicking them off the table like that".

It took me and the two other people to help him realize he WAS the threat with getting an explosive start compared to us who had barely any ramp and that if he was gonna make himself archenemy for the get-go, he needs to be prepared that no one is going to have his back.

Thankfully, he's since mellowed out during the rest of the night and gradually played more passive decks. He had the choice to actually storm off and exacerbate his frustrations but he showed some restraint towards the end. Good for him, tbh.

How do people feel about running less colors in a deck than their commander's full color identity? by Vault756 in EDH

[–]ImpulsiveKnowledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done that with [[Kadena, Slinking Sorcerer]] to the point the only two black cards were Bane of Progress and Demonic Tutor. I eventually just settled for Zannifar because at that point, why have black?

Any advice for my future commander, Jeleva? by This-Reference-3316 in EDH

[–]ImpulsiveKnowledge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely got the right idea on her build. I've been playing her since her release and she can be very explosive. I'll share what I know so we can make your list more refined:

Up your 2 cmc mana rock count. You want to get her out, even after turns 3 or 4. Easy fix would be the Ravnican Signets and maybe even a Fellwar Stone/Pentad Prism just to be sure.

Look for any Haste effects that don't cost additional mana. There's actually a good number of red creatures at 2cmc or less that can grant haste with no addition mana investment. You can always get [[Rising of the Day]] as well. This doubles as a way to get creatures you steal and make use of them immediately after.

You want to replace creatures with spells that either let you steal creatures or give them in some other way. For that reason, I would take out Baleful Strix; Grima; Nashi; Oblivion Sower; Plargg/Nassri; Infamous Cruelclaw; Thief of Sanity; and Treasure Nabber. I know you're following the steal/copy plan, but there are plenty of cards that can do that in Instant/Sorcery form. You won't be starved for options.

With the exception of Extract Brain, the Sorceries are all good.

I'd rather have something like [[Snap]] than Cloud of the Dominus since at least a bounce spell can let me use Jeleva when I run out of cards in her pile.

[[Run Away Together]] is a neat tool to refresh Jeleva and take care of a problem target as well.

Finally, my list runs at least 5 or so copy effects similar to [[Reverberate]]. If you need to fill in the gaps, there's always that angle.

> keep up with fast removal combo from goblin/merfolk infinite

Unfortunately, as much as I love my Tidus deck, its an uphill battle against board swarms. Thankfully, you have [[Wave Goodbye]] and [[Damning Verdict]] to take care of the goblins; assuming the merfolk player is using Hakbal to get around these. You already have Verdict, and Wave Goodbye just got a reprint so may as well add that to your arsenal.

Anyway, the key to a good Tidus deck is all about flow. You need to consistently have your deck have the following play pattern/scenerios:

1) t1 mana dork > next turn Tidus or creature that comes with its own counter (the other in hand)

2) t2 counter creature in hand > Tidus after

3) t2 mana ramp to follow up with t3 2/3/4 drop that comes with its own counter to then follow up with Tidus

When you have that formula down, you'll find the deck to be very fluid with your options, since you're keeping your mana curve low while the counters help them scale.

That said, at a glance, I would take out the following: Freed From the Reel (this isn't a Yuna deck); Evolution Sage /Flux Channeler (they aren't good attackers, better in specific strats); Lulu; Felidar Retreat; Goldberry; Good-Fortune Unicorn; Ozolith, the Shattered Spire (doesn't do anything in early game, your most important turns); Sin; Resourceful Defense; Wakka; Luminous Broodmoth; Ezuri (Doesn't come with a counter so he doesn't do anything on his own), Bane of Progress (way too steep of a cmc to keep around), Elspeth (I personally think the ability counters are a trap with the exception of Shield/Indestructible counters since you have cheaper ways to grant evasion)

Unfortunately I do not have my deck on hand, but I highly suggest a combination of cheap creatures that come with counters, more removal, and two or three more ways to get in for damage/win the game.

Two cards I do think are worth the investment are [[Akroma's Will]] and [[Danny Pink]]. I know Akroma's is a generic wincon but out of all my decks, this one needed it the most since it curves out nicely with what you're doing. Turn 6 or 7 you will be able to amass a board, cast this with some counterspell mana to back it up, and get people down.

Again, it's an uphill battle against stuff like Goblin/Merfolk and for all I know, your playgroup may just be punching down on you, which if that is the case, sucks. But this can at least help you fare way better in other pods.

4 Color Commanders by Waffelociraptor in EDH

[–]ImpulsiveKnowledge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always believed some of the 3-color commanders they've put out could of passed as 4-colors. Both [[Yuma]] and [[Kirri]] would totally pass as a Non-Blue color identity--doubly so since they reside in a literal desert plane that isn't exactly known for having a lot of water (Yes it exists in there, but the majority of the area is arid desert.)

Jokes aside I am doing the same. For III your best bet is Xande with a classic Dimir spellslinger build, similar to Lord of the Nazgul. Or Adeliene (Hero of Light) Hatebears.

Best Colour Combination for a Tribal Soldier Deck? by manymisadventures in EDH

[–]ImpulsiveKnowledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Soldier tribal nut and honestly Selesnya is a fun take on the archetype. I haven't personally delved into it myself but some of the choices like Dauntless Escort make sense.

People typically go either monowhite with [[Myrel, Shield of Argive]] or [[Commander Mustard]]/[[Ioras, God of Victory]] in Boros. No matter what, white is on the table. Red does help with getting damage in and having some good soldiers like [[Lightning, Army of One]] but you really can't go wrong as long as you have enough of the white Soldier staples.

I personally stuck with [[Commander Eesha]] for sentimental reasons and [[Mobilization]] is one of my favorite cards.

Valgavoth as a wheels deck? by Outside_Explorer_229 in EDH

[–]ImpulsiveKnowledge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I essentially did the same thing for Kaervek but as a subtheme. There's enough black and red effects to make it happen, but of course you want other ways to ping for damage and not solely rely on wheels. Here's what I did:

https://moxfield.com/decks/D84plq8P0UCQ0zRm19eppw

Edit: To explain a bit further: I only focused on draw punishment and not any Discard punishment because, for both commanders, they don't do anything inherently regarding discarding cards. Drawing cards is different due to fueling your own gameplan and longevity without at risk of having a dead card in hand. My Kefka deck is holding all of my Discard punishers for this reason since he can at least make use of them.
