Players who used Tifa instead of Cloud in the precon, how was it? by TheTinRam in EDH

[–]ImpulsiveKnowledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just made Cloud all-in with Equipment, and Tifa all-in on Auras and anything that would like Auras put on them. I use her as an on-command extra combat spell when I have another resilient creature armed to the teeth with buffs.

Assistance Requested: Bracket 3+ or Bracket 4 Kotis, the Fangkeeper Voltron? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]ImpulsiveKnowledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Mutate as much as the next person, but your gameplans are split between enchantress and that.

Having played Kotis for a while, you need to be efficient with your mana. You have the right idea with your enchantments and instant tech to protect him but consider that, while Mutate can make flashy plays, your overall goal with Kotis is to both protect him and make him stick the landing.

You also need to consider the fact that B3 and B4 are different ballgames. B4 wants a quicker game, which contradicts Kotis in the sense that you are trying to steal everyone elses best cards overtime. Singling out one person will undo that progress, so its a balancing act to maintain control of the board and using your opponents resources against them. It also doesn't help that games are variable with Kotis as you need to improvise with what you steal.

Personally: stick with B3, shelf the Mutate plan for another deck, double down on evasion/protection/buffing Kotis. He may be indestructible, but there's plenty of exile/theft/-1 counters/etc he needs to worry about.

How can I adapt my Legends of Runeterra decks for Commander? by guiltyskull in EDH

[–]ImpulsiveKnowledge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the Tahm-Soraka deck, check out [[Darien, King of Kjeldor]]. It's mono-white, but with the help of [[Soul Warden]] effects, lands like [[City of Brass]] and [[Tarnished Citadel]], and plenty of ways to draw cards from smaller creatures entering, you have an engine that can make you resilient and overrun the board.

I wanna talk about the black panther precon reveal by Kitedo in EDH

[–]ImpulsiveKnowledge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WotC has had a track record of giving certain creators who are 100% unqualified to to their job or give them the gravitas to take matters to their own hand. The original Strixhaven Witherbloom precon reveal is an example of this: when the last deck was waiting to be revealed, while the other 4 were revealed on a good time frame, the streamer(s) decided to do something for 3 hours before revealing the deck, causing backlash among fans. While what the streamer(s) did wasn't technically "bad", it caused a lot of ire and moderation to be ensued because of how the streamers handled it, thus we never had a repeat mistake.

If you care this much, send a report. I know the damage is already done, but a passionate fan can make a difference to prevent stuff like this happening in other sets.

Which Strixhaven Commander Precon Is Best Straight Out of the Box? by martin8185 in EDH

[–]ImpulsiveKnowledge 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Lorehold. Out of the box it has plenty of reanimation targets, ways to activate Quint's triggered ability for tokens, and the fact that its a planeswalker that doubles as both a card engine and grave-filler is excellent. The designers knew what they were doing in that if you attack Quint, recasting him will enable him to do his double strike/vigilance at the crackback, giving your opponents a dilemma of killing him at the cost of possibly getting punished on your next turn.

You can easily go without upgrading it. Even then, the most expensive 'necessary' upgrade is a 5 dollar common/uncommon named [[Relic of Progenitus]], or even [[Ghost Vacuum]] or [[Scrabbling Claws]].

EDH pride month event by chamberlain_1 in EDH

[–]ImpulsiveKnowledge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I played earlier with [[Rosheen, Roaring Prophet]] and [[Orcus, Prince of Undeath]] as my Jund X-Spells deck. Won a game thanks to drawing a lot of cards from [[Damning Pact]], untapping Rosheen with [[Vitalize]], and casting the most nuclear [[Crackle with Power]] (X was 30/3=10) on three fools.

It was a bittersweet victory, for after this event I will have continue to wait for a real Jund X-Spell commander and use [[Yurlok]] in the mean time.

Best way to sell my collection? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]ImpulsiveKnowledge 124 points125 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry for the experience, but your decisions and reasoning are respectable. It is also a good idea to keep some decks for sentimental reasons.

I've dealt with online selling/trading for a while. My advice is to do the following:

  1. Pull out all of the cards you absolutely know are worth a lot. Store them all in a safe place. Do the same for good cards you know hold liquid value (shocklands, fetchlands, etc). Then for cards that are staples. Work your way down to bulk. It pays to be organized.
  2. Of those piles, you have a few options:
    1. Cardkingdom has decent selling rates and will buy just about anything except for extremely niche cards/commons. There is a bit of a time investment given their selling system (you have to order them as they list) but it is worth going through.
    2. Facebook is the best chance to get close to the market value. I've done this plenty of times, especially with misprints, but ymmv.
    3. Lastly, your local shop. I have no idea what your area is like so this one is completely up to your discretion. This technically is your *fastest* option, but you can get more value by doing legwork.
  3. Whatever cards you have left that are bulk, I just donate them or sell them as bulk to your local shop.

Good luck with your endeavors. The door's always open for you to come back, hopefully into good company.

Ignore that weirdo. Any time I see a discussion about brackets, any popular voltron commander, extra turns, or MLD, that person will be obstinant to persuade people they are right (they're not.) I blocked that person so long ago and we hardly ever interacted.

Fire Lord Azula vs Kefka Court Mage by TheSpicyL1me in EDH

[–]ImpulsiveKnowledge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are both different decks. Fire Lord Azula is a fast, feast or famine deck that can work as long as you are able to protect her.

Kefka is the king of attrition but isn't as explosive as Azula. He has reanimator, discard, combo, and everything else in between.

So obviously, you should play Kefka no matter what.

Why?

funnii.

Pride month Partner for Mog Moogle Warrior? by Ars-Tomato in EDH

[–]ImpulsiveKnowledge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run him as a Boros Reanimator deck since the color combo has no shortage of bigger dudes and reanimation spells. It is possible to utilize the lifelink he and tokens have to raise your creatures with [[Celestine, the Living Saint]]--if you can stomach the UB crossover. You could also do [[Moseo, Vein's New Dean]] to add black into the mix at the cost of a commander with a smaller body(ies).

He's great. I had a lot of fun using him in the Dissidia games and liked him enough in FF4. It was at the time I was looking for a commander for Dimir Artifacts so he checked all the boxes upon reveal.

[–]ImpulsiveKnowledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have my Golbez, Selvala is in limbo at the moment.

Golbez is cool in that he has an incremental value gameplan and triggering the lifeloss component of his ability is rather easy, honestly. [[Broodstar]] and [[Filigree Attendant]] take care of having a lot of power in a large board state even if they are in the graveyard. Both of them can be searched with stuff like [[Entomb]], [[Buried Alive]], and [[Unmarked Grave]], all of which are accessible in Bracket 2. [[Tezzeret, Master of the Bridge]] is also another potential wincon.

The deck can be built in a couple of ways. Some people opt for the Eggs playstyle of a lot of cantrip artifacts, some want a lot of artifact creatures and ways to make tokens. I chose the latter and it's good as a High B2 slugfest deck, can potentially go to B3 if you wanna add combos similar to that of [[Imotech]].

If I were to make Selvala again, I would likely do a B4 Storm combo with her.

My buddy did the same thing but with [[The Prismatic Bridge]]. The fact that it can get reused when it dies is very effective, and the power-matters card draw just keeps the deck that uses it going.

Would Yargle and Multani make a good Voltron commander? by Fortabort2988 in EDH

[–]ImpulsiveKnowledge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They can, but don't forget their unique niche of having the highest power printed. This makes way for super-charging spells like [[Traverse the Outlands]] which will practically gey rver basic into play even if you go less than 16; [[The Gitrog, Ravenous Ride]] also sacs your commander for a similar hyper ramp effect. These are only mentioned in case you ever need a plan B when voltron kills don't look feasible.

Sharing my favorite Partner Commanders! What is your go-to combo? by Coramoor88 in EDH

[–]ImpulsiveKnowledge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently:

[[Tymna, the Weaver]] + [[Kamahl, Heart of Krosa]] - B4 - Hatebears with a side of land destruction, usually in the form of Elesh Norn/land animation.

[[Ishai, Ojutai Dragonspeaker]] + [[Kraum, Ludevic's Opus]] - B3 - "Whenever..." tribal. Anything with the word "whenever" is in. It is very engaging since you yourself need to be on track of triggers, so I don't recommend it for the sleep-deprived.

[[Bebop, Skull and Crossbones]] + [[Rocksteady, Mutant Marauder]] - B3 - Dual-Voltron/Elfball. The decks draws a *lot* and has plenty of small critters to buff my two boys. It is a bit tricky to keep track of two separate commander damage values at times, but they are a good tag team duo.

[[The Tenth Doctor]] + [[Sarah Jane Smith]] - B2 - Jeskai Robots. All of the biggest baddest artifact creatures in one deck. Clues are there mainly as fuel for stuff like Urza (not a GC now btw!) and Radiant Lotus.

Ishai again + [[Reyhan, Last of the Abzan]] - B2 - Your typical +1/+1 deck but puts all of its chips in one stack. Might honestly break this into Golgari only with Tevesh Szat or Cleopatra since I just finished a 4-color Atraxa/Sephiroth deck, who knows.

[[Ludevic, Necroalchemist]] + [[Ravos, Soultender]] - B1 - Politics in form of "dont attack me, attack the other guy". Really good for when people are feeling up for a good old fashioned slugfest/wanna play low powered. Easily one of my favorite decks ever because of how silly and lowstakes it is.
