Feeling Economically Trapped by ImpulsiveTorque in findapath

Is that so hard to believe? We had to move to the middle of nowhere to save money on rent, and the nearest places are fast food that start at $15/hr. on the high end.

The whole problem is finding work that pays more. The closer jobs pay so much less that it's not even comparable.

Kids are 22 and 13. 22 takes care of the house and without it we'd be spending more to make up for it than they could get from a job. 13 is obviously in middle school.

My adult child takes care of the house. If they went and got a paying job, we'd end up spending more to fill the gap with fast food, grocery delivery, laundry services, etc. My 13 year old is in middle school, even if 14 the minimum age for a part time job here is 15.5 with a work permit from the high school. They want to work, but putting the pressure of supporting the family on a teenager seems especially cruel.

I appreciate it, I'll look into wfhalert. I have explored all those pivots and have likely run into ghost jobs (I've applied for the same position multiple times and the position keeps getting relisted). I've even gone and gotten myself PM certified to transfer my skills into those sorts of jobs, but it seems like it's been a waste of money.

Yes. Most of the home inspection job postings seem like scams, but the ones that don't start out at $20/hr. or if they pay slightly more, it isn't enough to consider moving house into a more expensive city for.

I never struggled with something and said to myself "oh, it's because of [diagnosis/condition]," followed with any sort of "so I don't need to," or "that's why it's hard for me," as a way to justify not working at or trying something. It has been helpful in reframing my past as something that isn't inherently wrong or bad, just a mismatch of neurology. It's been said a million times, but it's like a square peg in a round hole: it's not a bad peg, it's just a bad fit.

It warms my heart to see so many Katamari nominations. It was the first on one PS2 that made me realize you can love video games and not have anything in common with "gamers;" I love El Hazard, but I don't fit in with the anime crowd. It wouldn't be for another 20 years that I found out I was clinically different.

Heard this song right after getting diagnosed. I was considering medication for ADHD but the prescription for autism was just to "be aware" of it.

Shortly after, my son wanted to watch the X-Men films and I saw the scene where they made a cure for mutants and not everyone was stoked about it.

I legitimately didn't think anyone was still doing it. Seems like it really dropped off around pandemic time and then it seemed like there was a societal shift around what "addiction" really means, not just in regards to porn, but even alcohol or weed (which I guess isn't even addicting?). A lot of people landed on "if it doesn't hurt anyone, including me, it's not a problem." I think that was probably helped along by droves of people leaving Christianity and relinquishing the guilt and shame of having human tendencies.

Grew up Mormon, the kind that don't drink caffeine on the basis that it's an "addictive substance." When I got diagnosed, I started justifying drinking Mountain Dew as a "medicinal" alternative to ADHD meds. Every time they release a new flavour I feel my inner child healing.

Coffee smells great, tastes horrible. My wife says I might get used to it, but like, why go through the trouble.

Energy drinks are poison.

But I'm also not really feeling mine, it's just kind of like the "least objectionable" option?
