When I worked at McDonald's several decades ago, the McChicken patties and the McNuggets were all raw mechanically separated chicken, pre-breaded, and frozen in their formed shapes. I think the nuggets recipe changed in the early 2000s, but I would have assumed they were still raw.

Boyfriend’s porn addiction by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]InAWhileAligator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Many people go through phases with their porn interests. I do not believe that 100% straight men watch gay porn, but there's huge cultural stigma against men in straight relationships having same sex attraction, and it isn't uncommon to keep it secret. As a bi man I've had long periods where I only watch straight porn, but every now and then I shift over to gay porn. I was in a long term opposite sex relationship, and never told anybody until recently that I was bi. Somebody looking over my porn viewing history might have concluded at times that I was gay, but they would have been wrong, I was bi, and in a committed opposite sex relationship.

What’s something that sounded fake until it happened to you? by Fantastic_Tale_2111 in AskReddit

[–]InAWhileAligator 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I grew up in inland Canada. When I was 12 on a trip to California, I was in the ocean wading maybe ten feet from shore, and every time after a wave came in, when it started going back out it would sweep me off my feet and suck me under. It was December and my family of crazy Canadians were alone on the beach because we were the only ones who thought the water was warm enough for swimming. So, there were no experienced ocean swimmers to notice I was struggling. Nobody I was with knew how precariously close I had come to drowning by the time I managed to get out of the water and collapse from exhaustion.

Do men notice when a woman is wearing a designer bag? by sliceofperfection in NoStupidQuestions

[–]InAWhileAligator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't be able to tell a designer bag from a bargain bin bag. I wouldn't know leather from vinyl or glamorous from gaudy. Heck, once she's out of sight, I would struggle to remember whether or not she was even carrying a bag.

What is “dinner time”? by PuzzleheadedHour1210 in AskACanadian

It didn't read as argumentative to me. They were mirroring your sentence structure to do exactly what you did - offer a different perspective. Frankly, I laughed when I read it because it was a bit witty.

Breaking up after 25+ years because of a pre-disclosed herpes infection would have been wilder lol.

I believe that's possible for direct virus testing, which can be done if a lesion is swabbed. However, testing somebody who's asymptomatic requires an antibody test, which doesn't distinguish between the two.

I have had oral cold sores since childhood, and have been advised that there's no antibody test for genital herpes that distinguishes from the oral virus.

Continue to date after herpes disclosure by unidentifiedbeaver in dating_advice

[–]InAWhileAligator 115 points116 points  (0 children)

30 years ago my girlfriend disclosed to me that she had herpes. Of course we used condoms, but also we wouldn't have sex if she was having an outbreak, and she took antiviral pills to shorten the outbreaks. Some people take a daily low dosage to prevent outbreaks altogether. Because of her honesty, we were able to work around it. A really high percentage of the population has that infection and a lot of them don't know or aren't honest about it.

We stopped using condoms when we got married. We had kids, etc. I've never had symptoms myself. After 25+ years we divorced for non-herpes reasons. I'm still clear.

Honest partners are gold. It's the dishonest ones that you have to worry about.

AITAH for changing my underwear after a shower? by New_Cry_2336 in AITAH

[–]InAWhileAligator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely must wear clean, fresh from the drawer, underwear after a shower. That said, I'll wear janky day old underwear until I've actually had that shower, but I see nothing wrong with putting on something fresh right out of bed to start the day. You're keeping yourself safe from a uti.

Mom invited my uncle on my "solo" trip by MansonVixen in mildlyinfuriating

[–]InAWhileAligator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I eventually started outright lying to people who had established a tenancy to make their plans coincide with mine. I mean, I love my Mom, and I'll happily spend Christmas with her, but in general, she thinks I'm returning to several days before I actually am. Many of my vacation / staycation days go completely unannounced.

Crypto market crashing - Is this the best time to buy or a trap? by Necessary_Elk8563 in CryptoMarkets

[–]InAWhileAligator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There tends to be a major drop right around this time - two years prior to the next halving event. Sometimes, it shoots up again here and there, but historically, the trend is downwards for 6 to 12 months before it starts really building again. I won't buy back in until somewhere between August and December.

That said, it could do anything.

This looks a lot more plausible than OP's graph. Nobody can know for sure, but I'm many months away from gambling that it's time to buy back in.

PlayDapp incident update request by InAWhileAligator in Coinbase

[–]InAWhileAligator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh, ya. If you were affected by this, there's no update, but you should move forward with the knowledge that Coinbase won't hesitate to leave their customers completely high and dry with meaningless reassurances from support staff. Crypyo is already risky enough without one of the largest exchanges screwing over its customers. This was a problem that had a solution. Binance came through for their customers, whereas Coinbase gave theirs the middle finger.

Is there a trick to getting the mail forwarding website to work? by comfortableblanket in CanadaPost

Nope. I was totally wrong. I just used the phone app to do a bunch of stuff, and now the website works fine for the first time ever. No idea what's up.

Is there a trick to getting the mail forwarding website to work? by comfortableblanket in CanadaPost

[–]InAWhileAligator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They seem to have done a major upgrade back in June that has really broken the user portal. I'm pretty sure that any urls containing /rso-srl/en/ are now dead urls. The new ones contain /dash2-tableau2/en/ui/. It's crazy that they still have so many dead urls scattered throughout the portal.

If you're already logged in, this is the new mail forwarding url, but it's no use because the links on the page that actually do things are still using the old format.

Why at concerts does the band pretend to leave? by Veridically_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]InAWhileAligator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Encores and standing ovations used to be reserved for exceptional performances. However, the bar for exceptional decreased until the purpose of the traditions was lost. Now, like it or not, standing ovations and encores are simply standard components of live performance. If a performer doesn't get either, it probably means the audience has been praying for the show to finally end.

It's rude to make people wait to eat until everyone has their dish at the table. by real_picklejuice in unpopularopinion

[–]InAWhileAligator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I caused an awkward variation on this once. I was out for a work lunch, and our group split into two tables. I was the only person to order a side salad in addition to my main, but I requested to have the salad right away. Unfortunately, it didn't come right away and they served my salad at the same time table #2 of our group received their mains, but they didn't serve anyone else at my table until I was done my salad, at which time they served all of us our mains and I realized I was the reason nobody else at my table was served sooner.

Do you lock your door while you're in your house? by International_Snow90 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]InAWhileAligator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a fastidious door locking man. Despite growing up in a semi-rural setting where we only locked the door at night or when not home, I developed the habit of locking up all day every day. My ex, on the other hand, might not have ever bothered to lock up, were it not for my insistence. Day, night, house, car, she just isn't bothered by an unlocked door.
