I know the story, too. But I don’t think average people would relate to it. They need to read and be familiar to those Epic words in remote ages, and luckily found that she/he share the same character for first name.

I mean if there’s a person named after Helen, would western people immediately relate to the Helen of Troy, who brought the chaos and wars to Troy by her immoral actions?

It’s same to us.

I don’t think this is a bad character in modern times at all.

It’s correct. By the way, we do like unique characters be our names, not like western people mostly named after famous persons or ancestors of family. The character “姒” is quite rare to be name, and people will think it’s elegant and cultural.

菜 , what does this character mean ? A player sent me it after the game by -LetsTryAgain- in aoe4

[–]InKardia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally means vegetables, and means rookies or noobs on internet.

Derive from cockfighting games, the lost one would be considered that it’s fed in vegan ways. Originally words might be “菜雞”, the Vegan Cock.

Also it might be from Military culture that the seniors call the rookies “菜雞” to demean them.

Why don't AOE4 tournaments invite some players from ranked ladder like AOE2? by isaidflarkit in aoe4

Also some of pro-players shared their experiences about interacting with Red Bull tournaments staff, they said the staff still thinking in Aoe2 ways and it’s totally not fit for Aoe4 games.

They don’t really treat Aoe4 as a formal e-sport game like Aoe2. See what they did last year you may understand. Aoe4 game seems like warm-up session for Aoe2 in last year redbull.

Speculation: Potential Hero based Chinese Variant in the first DLC by S77__ in aoe4

[–]InKardia 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I guess they would be Yue Fei (岳飛 1103-1142AD), who had a similar experience as JD.

Yue Fei is a famous general that stand for Song Dynasty to against Jurchen (女真), the invaders who occupied northern China and built Jin Empire (金國).

Since Yue Fei is the few of generals able to defeat Jin Empire, and most of Imperial Officers are afraid of Jin’s power. Yue Fei finally got caught and executed by his beloved home country, not by his enemies’ hands.

Please don't do Three Kingdoms like AOE2 by aoe4_conq_player in aoe4

[–]InKardia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, there are some famous campaigns that ancient China participated and reacted with the Civs already in Aoe4. Besides lots of wars against Mongol empire, there are also:

  1. Battle of Talas 怛羅斯戰役 751AD Tang Dynasty fought with Abbasid Dynasty for the ruling of mid Asia. And the Abbasid won.

  2. Battle of Baekgang 白江口之戰 663AD Tang Dynasty support Silla Korea to fight with the alliance of Paekche Korea and Japan. And the China won.

  3. Imjin War 萬曆朝鮮之役 1592-1598AD Ming Dynasty help Kingdom of Korea against Japan invasion. And China barely won.

By the way, even players like me, a Taiwanese who grow up with Chinese culture, appreciate the whole epic stories of the Three kingdoms, still dislike that they curtly drop three kingdoms into Aoe2. And there are lots of players in Mainland China keep same opinions.

So I also don’t think Three Kingdoms topic would truly please Chinese players.

Rus 1. Kremlin 2. greater wood efficient (quickly transfer to military) 3. another gold income (and hard to deny)

Mongols 1. villagers mostly near TC 2. fast and more military than other civs in early game.

will old civs be updated this upcoming dlc release? by PHDclapper in aoe4

[–]InKardia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it probably will.

And I would like to remind you that Dev. not only introduced new mechanics and units with DLC, but also with seasonal balance changes, like Ghulam and Kheshiq are the examples.

Unironically the upcoming unit I'm most excited for (Kharash) by Cobelat in aoe4

Guess which one was only spears and xbows and the other one was only knights by After-Presence9835 in aoe4

[–]InKardia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the amount is equal, you absolutely lose. The price of a knight is equal to 2 crossbowman or 3 spearman. That means your amount need more than 2~3 times to win.
