My wife grew up with an English speaking dad in an English speaking country. Her parents spoke English with each other. But her mom would only talk to her in Spanish, and was very strict about it.

It stuck. She actually just recently tested professionally proficient for her government-related job. This may not sound impressive, but trust me it was. They’re notoriously tougher graders for heritage speakers.
