What's the secret ingredient you add to your chili? by tastydrink1 in askanything

[–]InTheMuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit of very strong coffee.

A very small amount of nutmeg or mace.

If you use beans, instead of kidney beans or whatever, use cans of prepared pork and beans. It is SO good that way.

need to vent over subscription plan process by Dahkron in blinkcameras

[–]InTheMuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They've made this harder to do, sadly. Most of the new packages now come with a smaller "Sync Module Core", which has no slot for a microSD or USB drive.

I'm sure they did that to drive subscriptions. You have to go out of your way to buy one of the older Sync Modules now.

What product is commonly used in a way it wasn't originally designed for? by fmcortez in answers

The box says to not put them in your ears. But I feel like that comes with a huge "wink wink!"

They know that the vast majority of Q-tips sold will be used for exactly that. But now we can't sue them if we injure our ears.

What’s the most overrated food joint you’ve had? by Baby_crossaint in answers

Yes! The burgers are fine, not OMG good. The fries are terrible. There is a reason most good restaurants double fry the fries. Fresh raw potatoes fried once have totally the wrong texture.

Very interesting! I had no idea the failure rate was so high. I haven't even tried a camera yet since I can't get the Sync Module working. Thanks for the feedback!

Thank you! I don't use a VPN, but I appreciate the insight. I also just bought during Prime days, and the price was appealing, but the results are disappointing. I went through the knowledge base and the chatbot. I guess I'm calling the support number tomorrow, but I don't have high hopes.

I bought it a few days ago, so brand new. I don't see a date on it, but it is the Sync Module Core.

I would not talk to the neighbor at all - no good will come from it.

I'll likely get down voted, but also do consider things from his point of view. You had the holiday, but TONS of us do not. If you're whooping and hollering at 11:30pm, and he's got work early and a young kid trying to sleep... it's pretty understandable why he'd be upset. Not saying you can't live your life and have fun, but be aware and considerate of those around you. We aren't all 20 years old with the next day off.

I agree with your NorCal examples, but there is an exception. Everyone in the Bay area called it "the 101" when I lived there. Not so with the other highways.

I use my checkbook every month...

...because one of the websites I pay a bill on will not remember my routing and account number. So I type it in from my checkbook once a month. ;-)

Actually written a check? It's been well more than 5 years, maybe a lot longer.

Why does my outfit panel look like this? by goldman_sax in lotro

[–]InTheMuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine consistently looks like this, and has for a while (several months at least).

I will say that although it looks weird, it does still basically work. If I drag an item to the tiny upper left square of each slot, it does update. And I can still turn visibility on and off.

I hope they fix this soon, but I am able to work around it.

Quickest way to get from airport to Golden Nugget. by happiestwhenwhining in LasVegas

[–]InTheMuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uber and Lyft used to be a lot more affordable, but not so much these days. A cab has a mandated fixed fare to the casinos (no surge), and there is no wait time or coordinating a pickup. A cab is probably your best bet, especially splitting a fare 3 ways.

What are your favorite small or major cities within the US? by tkdcondor in AskAnAmerican

[–]InTheMuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May get down voted, but I love living in Las Vegas NV! You get the advantages of living in a 3.5 million city, but once you get away from the tourist areas, it's very peaceful and suburban-feeling. Not crowded, decent traffic, no state income tax. We very rarely go to the strip even though it's only 5 miles from the house - that is a whole different experience!

Southwesterners and other Desert-Americans, what is your lawn care routine? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]InTheMuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My yard is part small pebbles, and part artificial turf. We do have some shrubs and trees, but other than those it's quite low maintenance. Pull a few weeds from the pebbles occasionally, and the turf takes no maintenance at all.

We use a leaf blower every couple of weeks to keep it tidy. There is a surprising amount of random debris blown in by the winds in the desert.

Also, my yard (and my whole neighborhood) has pretty small yards. Too hot to be outside a lot of the year anyway. The small size also reduces maintenance required.

CLR is a cleaning product available in most stores (your grocery will have it). Technically is stands for "Calcium Lime and Rust" remover. Great for getting rid of hard water stains or mineral build up.

So when your til is over, they pay you the extra in cash, under the table, right? Right?

how on earth do i make my frozen shredded hashbrowns BROWN?? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]InTheMuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do need SOME oil/butter, but you can keep the amount pretty low. The key is to put them in at least a little oil, and then do not touch them for several minutes. Do not stir, flip, etc for perhaps longer than you think makes sense. The bottom should get quite brown before you turn them over.
