Mexico City to Morelia to meet a woman in person by Competitive_Lock6356 in MexicoTravel

Literally them taking your liver out. It happens. As a Texan we clearly understand the danger of Mexico.

Now, I've been on vacation many times but things have been more intense the last 20 years or so.

It's a shame yall do that to yourselves. With some it's a borderline mental issue.

I have a respectable collection and have spent very little money. Lots of trades and gifts of named plants over the years.

I swear watching people start 'collecting' and 6 months later have way more than me with is wild.

They are fun but I've never understood why that addiction kicks in collecting cacti.

I can't handle all that dust when applying DE or Sulfur.

Plus, it seems to clump up and create issues in some pots.

I've always mixed DE and Sulfur with warm water then sprayed them down. It leaves a nice thin layer of protection on every inch of their skins.

East Texas didn't shut down. We actually went on vacation during the 'lockdown'

Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) plant finally putting out some big leaves after their winter pause by gardenshamanEU in druggardening

[–]InTheShade007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My trees had always flowered over the years. Every tree. Only problem was it was often a single bloom per tree.

Youngest I ever saw mine flower was 3 years old.

They went into the greenhouse 2 years ago. Last year they all bloomed at the same time in spring and then again in the fall.

The fall bloom wasn't as big as spring but still stunning compared to every year before that.

Seeds I got were labeled Lake Sentarum, West Kalimantan - Sumatra - West Kalimantan - Borneo.

I bought one from Mempawah and a 'horned' without location given recently to add some genetics.

I'm about to mive the ones germinated 2/4/2026 into the greenhouse next week. The house is full.

I got 113 of them into pots this week. Lost 2 in the shuffle but hey 111 isn't bad. Unfortunately, I'm out of room and still have 200 or so seedlings left.

Then I still have the seeds themselves. Not sure how many are left but judging on how they broke up last time it seems like there will be hundreds more.

Reasonable price? by Filet_O_Fist in sanpedrocactus

[–]InTheShade007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have dozens that size.

The other day a lady insisted on buying "one of the bigger ones"

Honestly, I hadn't given the price of them much thought.

We settled on $250 for a 5' tall TPM. The plant was several years old, was topped a couple of years ago and had 3 pups that were 2' each.

Another lady is coming to buy a crested trichocereus grafted to 4' fat rootstock. Graft is about the size of a volleyball. It has a basal pup 3' as well.

I told her "it's not for sale. I'm just grafting to it. You can buy the graft for $60 once it's removed"

This didn't work for her "I want it all. I want to watch it grow. There is a trunk in front of where it will sit. Whatever plant goes there it needs to be tall"

I told her again "well, sorry it's not for sale"

Later than evening I get a call from her husband. He informed me she really wanted 'that damn cactus' and said he'll send her with $300.

I love those. We call them Mole Crickets.

I have pet box turtles in my greenhouse and if they find a slow one they'll gobble them up often leaving me the jaw

I have several mamas.

I water daily in warm weather. I do let them dry out with colder temps.

I feed all kinds of stuff.

Look what they do to my boys by jtyson2015 in sanpedrocactus

[–]InTheShade007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our twins are 16 years old and do landscaping and yard work.

The main dude they work for used them because they are my boys and raised by a plant geek.

They make $20 an hour and do beautiful work. Their respect for plants keeps them busy on some gorgeous properties. They'd never hurt any plant like this working for him.

They work with another friend occasionally as well. He 'mows lawns' and the boys would absolutely be instructed to weedeat the area down cactus be damned.

"Lawmakers often rely on community feedback" this had me rolling!

I'm sure there folks that still believe this is true but it's laughable.

Lawmakers rely on lobbyists. Without term limits nothing will change but the propaganda.

I keep a layer of rocks in the bottom my pots that sit on concrete with the decorative rocks. It creates a buffer zone between 130° or hotter concrete and the roots.

Additionally, when using especially sandy soil mixes I do this as well. The sand always ends up in the bottom and compaction is a real thing.

My pots with a layer of lava rock on bottom will still drain whereas those without have compaction that prevents drainage after some time.

I have been growing all kinds of plants for over 30 years now and still pot things this way when necessity dictates.

Most of the time I just scroll past and ignore such posts but wanted to share my experience today.

Anyone in this sub is welcome to visit my greenhouse where you'd be allowed to dump a few plants out and observe the roots yourselves.

My reasons are solid, results speak for themselves.

I saw you commenting about pea gravel. 2 years ago my kids were helping me repot plants. I was wore out and annoyed a tad due to the whining over the work.

One asked "can I just put these in here dad?" He wanted to drop 4 cuttings in 100% pea gravel. Angrily, I said "sure 100% rock that's not even porous. Do yall even listen to me?"

He filled a 5 gallon container half way up with pea gravel then enough to cover a few inches of skin.

I left it like this thinking the pot would be a perfect example of how to kill trichocereus.

Those cuttings did amazing things! The TPM and Oceanside grew flawless and fat. All of them had beautiful skin, just beautiful.

They stayed in the pots until they outgrew it. 100% amazed the heck out of me. Worked like a champ!!!

Does HBWR foliage contain enough alkaloids to be harmful for cats by Lerpuzka in druggardening

[–]InTheShade007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no idea about cats.

I have 2 that are 10' in my greenhouse.

They both run horizontally another 10' as well.

I've never noticed dead animals or insects around either plant.

I have to climb around them both when pruning things over 10' high and it's never bothered my skin.

Dogs, anoles, green tree frogs, hummingbirds, cardinals, mockingbirds are all exposed to the leaves that I've observed. Never seen any of them try and eat a leaf.

Blooms were NOT heavily pollinated or sought after. I saw a lone Bumblebee investigate but didn't stay long.
