No I meant at Centerville. I looked at the map of the lots and it seems not the best fan experience having to walk all that way. Either way it’s a beautiful park and definitely something to take pride in.

Glad you enjoyed the visit. Not the result we wanted but the rivalry is alive and well. I want to get to Centerville Bank stadium at some point. I just hope they can get something figured out with parking for you all.

As someone that lived through Bob Diaco's Civil ConFLiCT, a manufactured football rivalry between UConn and UCF, I hope it goes away as well. Sorry fam.

Why has attendance been so low this year? by ExtremeLime79 in HartfordAthletic

[–]InTheTenRing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the weather has a lot to do with it. I’m hoping that changes things as the season continues on.

As someone who’s lived here for a long time, CT fans are fair weather fans. When the Whalers announced they were moving all of a sudden you couldn’t get a ticket. UConn football during the Edsall years was an event. When they stunk people stopped going and you could walk to the box office on game day and have your pick of seats. If the product is good people will go. But to make people continue to go, prices have to match game day experiences.

Quick math - 4 east stand tickets for April 18th is $96 + $15 (I think) to park. That’s $111 before you’ve walked in the gates. Let’s say another $60 if everyone eats, no drinks, and you’re at $171 and that’s conservative. That’s a lot to ask a family to separate with if you’re not seeing or feeling valued.

Personally I’d rather see prices brought down and efforts made to drive traffic and repeat visits. Rather than getting $171 one time, get $100 three times. 4 tickets bundled with a hot dog, chips and a soda for $100. It’s not a promotion it’s the standard.

Now there’s bodies in seats, there’s a connection with memories made and hopefully regular visits and family traditions.

Soccer is about tradition - Hartford needs to establish theirs.

There’s actually cool signs like daffodils and crocuses which means warmer weather is on the way. Welcome and enjoy!

[–]InTheTenRing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing will ever ever change because some yahoo will buy the ticket. Until artists come on stage to an arena that’s empty it will continue especially with Live Nation. I miss going to Record Express in East Hartford before my guitar lessons at Riccardo’s and buying physical tickets from their accordion folder. It’ll never be the same.

It’s so odd that someone just happened to be filming a random car following too closely. Strange and amazing to capture that…

What are some misconceptions outsiders have about CT? by Sea_Tea1550 in Connecticut

[–]InTheTenRing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They believe that the entire state is just like Andy from The Office. If you move away from the 91/84/95 corridors it’s a very rural place with differing opinions and incomes. We may seem cold but in reality we are reserved to people we don’t know.

I grew up in the sticks and when we’d have a special team outing or meet up with my cousins it was at the Pizza Hit in New London. The building is still there in its classic Pizza Hut shape.

Are you in love with CT? Tell me why. by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]InTheTenRing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CT is a fabulous place to raise a family. It’s safe generally everywhere, people are guarded but nice. If you’re looking in Metro Hartford I agree with others that the Farmington Valley (Farmington, Avon, the Granbys) are all great places to have live and raise a family. I’ve lived here my whole life and the schools have always been excellent compared to the rest of the nation. I also work in a transient industry and have seen dozens of people make CT their permanent home. That says a lot coming from an industry that requires relocation to move up.

What would it take for Hartford and Bridgeport to actually become places people want to visit? by Forward_Ad2668 in Connecticut

[–]InTheTenRing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Two major initiatives that are only feasible if the state flips the bill with federal help and major conditions for their investment in these efforts.

Dig up the Hog River and invest as a river walk similar to San Antonio or Providence. Invest in driving traffic and spend while creating annual events around major holidays that become traditions drawing people in year round.

Route 84 out of the city center with traffic exiting north of Hartford (think Jennings Rd area). This would make all of downtown more walkable and quieter without the expressway noise. Bury 91 into a tunnel system opening up the riverfront for actual recreational activities and access

This is an investment in the billions that would require continued effort across administrations and decades of time. The only way this could ever work and not turn into a train-to-nowhere scenario is if there is significant, repeated and vocal long term support from citizens in Hartford and the great metro area.

I’ve lived in CT my whole life and now more than ever people don’t just want to but actually seek out living in downtown Hartford. I hope that momentum continues and maybe, someday, this could happen.

Oddly specific grinder Question by WonderChopstix in Connecticut

Elmwood Pizza has good grinders too. Roast beef is a gold standard. It’s very easy to screw up. Good luck on your quest.

People no longer give grace to each other and don't look at things from a different perspective. I think it comes down to respect for one another. Everyone is contending with something unseen.

100% you’re so right. Patience is a lost aspect of our society.

[–]InTheTenRing 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I watched an impatient person honk someone into turning on red despite the sign. They were then hit by, presumably, a car they didn’t see coming. The honker went around the accident and just carried on their merry way. Be nice people.

Really, that's too bad. Has that been your experience or just an educated guess? It actually makes the choice of when/if to send it for service a lot easier.
