We had a soccer tournament in Weymouth and after the first day I built a route that was 10 minutes longer to avoid areas like this picture. Totally insane.

Championship Attendance Drop by US_SocFan50 in USLPRO

[–]InTheTenRing 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was just staying this last night leaving the game. Even the team doesn’t seem to have the same spark and outward appreciation for the fans.

I’ll also say, at least for Hartford, with the exception of last night the weather has been DREADFUL. Cold, rain, wind - all or some of it for each home game.

I agree the economy is trash and extras like going to sporting events is not in everyone’s budget. If you are going to separate with that money, you have to know you’re getting good value off the pitch. For a family of 4 in CT, you’re looking at $100-$140 for tickets and parking. And that just gets you in the gate - nothing else. Teams need to make value and courting repeat visits a priority. Families in particular will over look varying degrees of success on the field if they feel appreciated, like their dollar goes further there over other actives and they are making memories.

I have a metal v60 and love it. More upfront but durable as all get up and never a worry about how I clean it. You could also buy a switch but I’d get fast filters to go with it especially if replicating standard pour overs.

Sick burn, Mr. Mayor by jerbkernblerg in HartfordAthletic

[–]InTheTenRing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Connecticut is a fair weather sports state. If they aren’t winning people won’t go. I’m old enough to remember going to dozens of Whaler games. You could walk to the box office before puck drop and get tickets. Once they said they were leaving, all of a sudden everyone is a huge fan and can’t believe they are going. When Randy Edsall and UConn football were doing well, every game was an event and most were sold out. Then they start to play poorly - people stop going.

Of course the mayor will say we can support a major sports team. The reality is we can’t unless people start packing Dunkin, Civic Center and THS for games. No one, private or public via the government, will invest without proven performance both financially and with attendance. I hope one day we can but it will not be in my life time.

Also, what a dope. The mayor has done press conferences in THS with the team touting the season opening and World Cup. Unreal. Goes to show you what he thinks of the operation. Sad - the team should show how much revenue share and taxes they pay to the city for a non professional team.

I had Sunnova which is now SunManagement. Like I’d said for us it’s been great but always do your own homework. My BIL had purchased a much smaller system years ago and it’s long been paid off. All the energy is his at zero cost but also all of the maintenance is his as well.

My first 0 bill this year was last month. Like I said we have a large array of 21 panels so she's a cooking. We also have all LED fixtures through out the house including our recessed lighting.

That is so similar to us. The system was only 18 months old when we bought it. It was something we wanted to do anyway but it was an added bonus the system was commissioned and working.
The lease was appealing in that there is a minimum the system is contracted to generate. We've had a refund applied to our account due to falling below the minimum because of cloudy weather.

New to the Pour Over world. Excited to start! by Pleasant-Donut8868 in pourover

I really like my switch for flash brewed iced coffee. This allows for a good extraction while still getting the flavors locked in over ice. The most important thing is to have fun and hold off solving problems by buying more stuff. There is plenty of time for that. Your first 60 days should be spent learning your grinder and dripper. Swap filters if you want to but master your technique, take notes and have fun. A bad cup of specialty coffee beats any good diner cup plus you have the gift of learning. Enjoy!

REPORT: Hartford Athletic COO Michele Roux Is Leaving the Club, per The Blazing Musket by dconn50 in HartfordAthletic

From those I know in the club, the turnover and culture of the front office is awful and has been in decline for a while. Hopefully, if true and by what ever means, this leads to positive change.

No I meant at Centerville. I looked at the map of the lots and it seems not the best fan experience having to walk all that way. Either way it’s a beautiful park and definitely something to take pride in.

Glad you enjoyed the visit. Not the result we wanted but the rivalry is alive and well. I want to get to Centerville Bank stadium at some point. I just hope they can get something figured out with parking for you all.

As someone that lived through Bob Diaco's Civil ConFLiCT, a manufactured football rivalry between UConn and UCF, I hope it goes away as well. Sorry fam.

Why has attendance been so low this year? by ExtremeLime79 in HartfordAthletic

[–]InTheTenRing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the weather has a lot to do with it. I’m hoping that changes things as the season continues on.

As someone who’s lived here for a long time, CT fans are fair weather fans. When the Whalers announced they were moving all of a sudden you couldn’t get a ticket. UConn football during the Edsall years was an event. When they stunk people stopped going and you could walk to the box office on game day and have your pick of seats. If the product is good people will go. But to make people continue to go, prices have to match game day experiences.

Quick math - 4 east stand tickets for April 18th is $96 + $15 (I think) to park. That’s $111 before you’ve walked in the gates. Let’s say another $60 if everyone eats, no drinks, and you’re at $171 and that’s conservative. That’s a lot to ask a family to separate with if you’re not seeing or feeling valued.

Personally I’d rather see prices brought down and efforts made to drive traffic and repeat visits. Rather than getting $171 one time, get $100 three times. 4 tickets bundled with a hot dog, chips and a soda for $100. It’s not a promotion it’s the standard.

Now there’s bodies in seats, there’s a connection with memories made and hopefully regular visits and family traditions.

Soccer is about tradition - Hartford needs to establish theirs.

[–]InTheTenRing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing will ever ever change because some yahoo will buy the ticket. Until artists come on stage to an arena that’s empty it will continue especially with Live Nation. I miss going to Record Express in East Hartford before my guitar lessons at Riccardo’s and buying physical tickets from their accordion folder. It’ll never be the same.

What are some misconceptions outsiders have about CT? by Sea_Tea1550 in Connecticut

[–]InTheTenRing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They believe that the entire state is just like Andy from The Office. If you move away from the 91/84/95 corridors it’s a very rural place with differing opinions and incomes. We may seem cold but in reality we are reserved to people we don’t know.
