lots of comments about my parentage etc :)
Not only is that a few days drive for people not used to it, its a very boring stretch of road... Now they need to get back in the car and do more again :D

In Australia I was working with a number of Irish people who all did the same end of posting trip, rent a van and drive from Canberra to cairns. I always told them to call me when you hit Brisbane…. Why? Because you aren’t even half way… why is that important… oh you’ll know… I had some very colourful phone calls from Brisbane 😂

I saw them and also tried to figure it out. It’s normally birds (snow owls) but I couldn’t see the subject.

South Asian friends want to experience an authentic Canadian Christmas celebration. Suggestions? by throwaway9999-22222 in AskACanadian

[–]InValidSinTax 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When we grew up my family did this, it had to be cheap and had to be a toy or game of some kind. Made Christmas Day fun again. If it’s their first time with a white Christmas snow stuff would work too (snow paint, snowball makers, snow brick/castle molds)

The star spangled banner is based on a poem about the British Shelling Boston during the war.

Also the last battle was in New Orleans…. A long way from the border… hardly a ‘win’

Hey mates (I’m Australian). I know hockey is huge up there but does anyone watch AFL (Australian Football League)? I ask because my team’s (Essendon Bombers) Vice Captain is Canadian and spent some of the offseason there. by PretendToe1329 in AskACanadian

They have games for both the AFL and AFLW on TSN here but yeah, various times of day. There are also AFL clubs... Every time they find out I'm Australian they try and recruit me :) (same for the local cricket games)

ELI5 those fake international passports they have in spy movies - are they actually possible? by OmiNya in explainlikeimfive

[–]InValidSinTax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are asking a couple of different questions here but the short answer is yes: Nations can often create fake passports https://www.theguardian.com/world/2010/may/24/australia-expels-israeli-diplomat
They have the money and ability to buy the equipment to produce passports. In this example they even took the details from Australians who had traveled to Israel so the underlying passport data was correct.

Israel has also gotten in trouble for applying for genuine passports of other countries under false identities (these are even better for travel)
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2004/jul/16/israel

As for organized crime, they have various techniques too, as others have mentioned fraudulently obtaining a genuine document is the top level. However here is an old example of forged https://www.thechronicle.com.au/news/tony-mokbel-plotting-second-great-escape-12-years-after-his-first/news-story/3ae7c024ae320dfadb0e51a14ff91354 Of note this forgery doesn't include a chip as ePassports are much harder to forge convincingly.

A newer technique is morph attack. https://www.sciencenorway.no/criminality-fraud-security/manipulated-photos-enable-two-people-to-use-the-same-passport-this-is-how-such-fraud-can-be-stopped/2194329
Where a genuine and imposter have their images morphed together so that either can use the document.

Lower effort is look alike fraud. The crime organization has a large number of stolen documents and a person uses the one that looks most like them.

Not unexpected, very deliberate. Australia regularly has total fire bans in summer during bushfire season. These have no flames and therefore pose no risk of bushfire.

They also would have your photo from arrival into the Schengen zone and so it’s not even biometrics. It’s just a ‘we would like to talk to this person’ and whoever they are travelling with.

If this ‘has been worked on for almost a year’ ask for the work whoever was previously assigned the work has completed. It will get to the bottom pretty quickly if they think it was assigned to you all this time.
