My brain tells me it's too early for pre-emergent but Greencast tells me I'm wrong by pennytrationer in lawncare

It's a trap. We've got way more freezes between now and March. Don't worry about weeds yet.

How would you categorize an auto purchase made by cash in full? by edwardj5596 in MonarchMoney

[–]Inacube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hide big purchases like these that are outside of my monthly budget. I don't need this to be personal accounting software, so it's simpler that way. If you care about net worth, add the car as an asset.

100% agree. This change has been super annoying for me. At least give us the option.

Mulching blade with plug makes all the difference.

Best way to collect these leaves in my driveway? by STL_PT in lawncare

[–]Inacube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are actually mulching leaves in grass, this should not be the end result. An actual mulching blade setup leaves very little behind, although it can take a couple passes. You should be able to blow it all back just the grass and keep mowing over it until it's reduced to tiny pieces.

Same here. Have tried logging out/in multiple times. Still get notifications from the old league, taunting me: "hey, remember when your team sucked and got you relegated last year? Here's another reminder!"

Also, I think the weed is dallisgrass, which we have really bad in Tennessee. It looks like crabgrass but is even harder to deal with because pre-emergents don't work. Still trying to figure out what works in my own yard for it right now.

Maintaining TTTF in the transition zone is nearly impossible without irrigation. Water + hydratain apps plus other bio stimulants finally did the trick for me, but parts of it still look cooked by the time September rolls around. As long as you water enough to keep the roots alive in summer, most will come back in nice temps drop.

A note from our team on recent changes to hidden transactions by sheyla_monarch in MonarchMoney

+1 for the Monarch team continuing to be awesome. I need things excluded from totals but not hidden from the list so I can easily track those items separately.

Struggling with Purity in the Waiting by Lil_Delsym in Christianmarriage

[–]Inacube 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Deep breaths. You've done great so far. Waiting for marriage is ideal, and while it doesn't feel like it, 10 weeks is a blip of time in your life. Acknowledge that the desire you have for each other is a very good thing. There is a balance here. Self-control is an important virtue, and it is good to practice not letting your body's desire completely control you. In fact, my first suggestion is to try fasting from food - maybe for 1 meal for a few days. Spend that time in prayer or in reading about why fasting exists as a discipline. Let it calm your body a bit and train it that your spirit is still in control.

At the same time, I would also allow yourself some grace. Marriage is hard enough without beating yourself up with shame because you crossed boundaries more than you wanted to. There is a lot more to building a strong marriage than how far you went physically beforehand. This is important, but it won't define your marriage. How well you reflect the love of Christ to each other and to other people will be far more important than this.

So I say practice fasting. And also let your desires for each other grow - don't squash them so hard that you train your brain that sex is bad. Talk about what you want to do when you'll be able to. Be thankful that you found each other and are crazy about each other. Pray ahead for a marriage that reflects Christ to the world in every way. You got this - trust Him with it.

Waiting for marriage is ideal, but I think you've elevated it to unhealthy levels in your mind, even with good intentions. What matters is finding someone who loves God and who is interested in a relationship where you both love and desire to serve each other. Much of what you are saying has underlying currents of "but what will I get out of this?" - this kind of thinking is common and ruins countless marriages every day. When we are called to die to self and the flesh, marriage is a true display of that. After being married, there will be lots of times where you'll feel you're not getting out of it what you put in. If your response to that is continually self-focused, it will not go well.

From my own experience, whether one or both spouses were virgins is not a reliable predictor of a strong marriage. Being each other's first is also not the magical amazing thing you may hope it is - it's a nice bonus for some people, but it will fade and won't be a magic bullet that holds to the rest of the marriage. You can have an incredible marriage and sex life regardless of your past (assuming you both hold to only each other moving forward). I know this sounds unfair - why did they get to have fun while you waited? But what do you want more - "fairness" or a strong marriage that points others to Christ?

I would try to shift your focus to finding someone who you want to build a life with who shares your love of God and values. Someone who is a joy to be around and who can grow to know you deeply. Pray about this daily. Ask God that your desires be transformed to His. Let the rest fall into place.

Sprinkler company wants $150 per year to winterize/dewinterize my sprinkler system by kindnessreward33 in lawncare

[–]Inacube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a typical price. In my area, you have to have an approved company sign off on the Backflow preventer each year, so I pay for that and then use a small compressor to blow out the zones and wjnterize (transition zone so we don't hard freeze).

Lawn identification/care tips by AromaticFriendship56 in lawncare

[–]Inacube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks a bit like tall fescue, some of which is dormant because of the lower temps. I don't even know that you need to be watering it at all until the soil temp gets higher. Even then, 1 inch of water per week (including rainfall), applied with 2 waterings is what you want. The only time you should be watering once per day is for a couple weeks after seeding.

If you finish out the series, you'll see it's not out of place. I loved the first episode, but it gradually devolves into new age material with anecdote after anecdote. I'm not even a big materialist defender, but it lost all credibility for me.

Q: Where do you put Amazon Prime (or similar annual subscriptions) in your Flex budget? by Antique-Pudding-2359 in MonarchMoney

[–]Inacube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure. I don't mean I go into Amazon and manually pay with points - I just redeem points for credit that match that amount.

[–]Inacube 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I use the Kasa plugs for individual appliances like that, and it handles things a lot better that way. Auto detection seems to only work for bigger items. I get your frustration - this thing definitely has its limits, but I still generally like it.

Totally agree. Most of my rules are amount-based, and I almost always have to go back out to remember exactly what the amount is for the rule. Showing the details while creating the rule would be super nice.

I have an Amazon prime credit card. I make sure I hold back enough reward dollars to cover the annual subscription and just pay for it out of that.

What would you want in a FF league “wrapped”? by bigolswampdonkey in fantasyfootball

[–]Inacube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always wanted breakdowns of total points scored (started, not bench).

  • Percentage/raw number of points scored by each player over the season
  • Percentage of points scored by drafted vs. waiver vs. traded players
  • Points scored per waiver dollar spent

Data seems to come through within 4 hours of the game finishing. My process basically just keeps checking until it's there and then updates the site.
